LB Gavin Nix commits to Miami... flips to Oregon 12/3

It seems we will be looking forward to the Portal. My question to you or anyone is do we have a reason to look forward to the portal? Pointedly, will we also be out spent in the portal?

My guess is finishing around 13 for the recruiting rankings.

Looking towards the portal -last year Miami didn't sign any truly ELITE players on defense and im skeptical they will do it again this year.They got a few good ones and then depth guys. Will probably see similar as last year with some solid starters, but all the Elite guys Miami's competing with for not just the money, but all the negative recruitment of Guidry as a DC. They need 1 DE,1DT, probably 1 LB depending on who leaves, 2 CBs and 2 safteys.

Offense can be different. There aren't alot of true needs Outside of QB. Would love another WR and a starting tackle, if Allen leaves probably a RB to come in and get 50-75 carries next year. Much easier to paint the picutre of how the offense will be from this past year.

Do we really need a tackle? Bell got a lot of great snaps this season due to the injury of Rodriquez and Rivers. He's only going to get better

I'm just saying.. its not all Guidry. I don't think he can come back because it would kill us on the portal trail and we have too many holes to fill but he'd be just fine with better players

Nothing else changed from year 1 to year 2.

im sorry. I disagree. he chose to live and die with Jaden, Kiko, Porter, etc.

To be fair I think a lot of people were singing praise for Guidry last year. We also lost good CB talent and 2 NFL safeties with no one but Meesh and a good true freshman to replace them. But as in recruiting, yesterdays results ain’t todays results, Guidry get ya *** outta here.

So recruiting about on par with Diaz, except Cristobal has to recruit around having a horrendous defense. I wonder if defensive recruiting would be better under Diaz. He can at least point to several top defenses that he has coordinated in the past. He is able to highlight his defenses with lots of sack and turnovers- recruits tend to like those since it gives obvious stats that boost draft status. What can Guidry highlight?

More of an indictment of whats behind them.

There were no other corners to play behind Porter. I saw Zaquan look just as bad as Harris multiple times. Popo was hurt and I saw our reserve LBs give up 2 KR TDs on special teams and come in and get gashed a few times by FAMU and Ball State.

I agree for the most part, but what happened to us confusing opponents with multiple DL standing up and moving around pre-snap? Guidry came in being somewhat innovative with stuff like that. Maybe it was because he personnel was undersized in the past, but I didn't see any of that this year.

I'm not to high on him and don't think hes quick enough for LT. But if hes one of the top 5 guys then he should play.

His willingness to adjust the gameplan and players was way more nimble in 2023 than in 2024

He had arguably better top to bottom talent in 2024 and had a huge regression

Teams consistently exploited his playcalling

There’s no reason to debate this at this point, but you’re on an island saying that the defense was bad in 2024 because of players exclusively
