LB Depth

I'm done responding to you, you're clueless.

Mike Smith played in every game last year. He was the 4th backer. He played in every single game and made 40+ tackles. Who is the 4th backer this year? Right now it's Sam Brooks. That's concerning. Now please, let the adults talk.
Depth was much worse in 2016 when we started 3 true freshman at linebacker. if brooks being a possible 4th guy is that concerning to you then how worried were you in 2016?

Joyner is hurt. Brooks weighs 140 pounds and is a true freshman playing a different position. Anything else?
You are clueless. Did you not read the tweet? It says joyner isn't ruled out for the uf game and brooks is way bigger than 140. He was 195 in hs and has gotten much bigger since then. Jesus.

He has a heavy flow this month and wasn't prepared with the proper tampax.

Not gonna lie I was nervous as **** in 2016. I was fuming on vacation when I woke up to Muhammad and Grace being dismissed.

I'm clearly being facetious. So we're clear though, you're confident with Brooks playing meaningful snaps at an outside backer spot against UF?

Like Brock said we started 3 FRESHMEN in 2016 and have since transitioned to more of a 4-2-5 defensive scheme.

Just so we are clear is your head in the sand as well as heels dugg to knee caps?

For everyone concerned about brooks transitioning to the traditional linebacker role: didn’t mccloud basically only rush the quarterback in high school? And he’s doing solid and brooks is probably the better athlete.

I was scared ****less in 2016 at the LB depth. Pretty sure Darrion Owens played a lot that year too. And Mike Smith was at least a body at that point. I'm also hoping the 2019 defense is better than the 2016 defense. I see your point, every team has concerns and we'll have 11 kids out there ready to go. But it's ****** to be in this situation. I think Huff is more ready to play that spot than Brooks, if you had to play a freshman. And he won't be there. And when Jennings went down in the spring I was thinking at least Joyner should be ready to get some run, and now he's hurt.

Ideally he works himself back and plays against UF. But starting the year limited is not a good sign. And playing Sam Brooks against a team who you know is going to try to run the football on us isn't ideal either.

MLB- Shaq, McCloud, Joyner
WLB- Pickney, McCloud, Brooks
Striker- Finely, Frierson
Personally I think McCloud tools don't fit the striker position like Finley's and Frierson's tools do. Derrick Smith is a pretty big dude as well, he should be move down to WLB. I would add Huff in there, but OP said he is not guaranteed to participate yet.
In a 4-3-4 the SLB is McCloud.

Owens wasn’t even close to being fully recovered from that 2015 injury that ****ed his career. I mean he was fine here but he could have been **** good if it wasn’t for the knee injury.

I'm not entirely concerned about him transitioning there long-term. But let's be real. On a team with ideal depth, this is a redshirt season for Sam Brooks. He's undersized, and he's playing a more traditional LB position than he ever has before. This would be a perfect kid to redshirt, put some weight on him, and let him learn. Now, he's 100% playing EARLY in the UF game, assuming Joyner is out (for the 50th time, he's not ruled out, I'm aware, but this is a message board and we're talking different situations). That is not an ideal situation and I'd bet my life if you could get Manny some truth serum and have him off the record, he'd tell you he's concerned.

And you'll find out just how concerned when we read next week that either Finley or Smith are working with the LBs. Because I really don't see what else you can do. One or both of those kids has to be ready to play LB for at least a few snaps a game, in addition to their Striker rotation.

Totally agree with you. However he may have to play first game out of necessity and then we can still redshirt him as long as he only plays 4 games or less until Joyner returns

Great point. I hadn't even thought of that. Still doesn't solve the issue of possibly having to play him in the first place, but in the undesirable event that we do, yeah he can still redshirt possibly.

It is crucial for Shaq/Pickney to stay healthy this year. We can work with the rest.

There's been a few threads about the various kids over the past few months, but I figured I'd consolidate Manny's comments just a few minutes ago at ACC Media day.

He just said that Waynmon Steed and Bradley Jennings won't be participating when camp kicks off on the 26th due to "long-term injuries". Nothing really new, we knew Steed was out for a while and it had been rumored Jennings wouldn't be ready.

But he also said Patrick Joyner will be limited due to a lower leg injury. He has not been ruled out against UF, but he's not healthy to start camp.

ALSO, Avery Huff is not yet cleared and will not be participating. Sam Brooks is enrolled and will participate.

So, that leaves Miami with 4 healthy LBs. Obviously Shaq and Pinck will play a ton, and really we don't have much of a choice. McCloud will back them up, and then it's Sam Brooks as the next man up. I don't see any situation where Brooks doesn't get at least a couple snaps against UF....you can't play the whole game with only the 3 seniors, especially when you'll be in heavy at times and all 3 will be on the field together (yes, I know the majority of snaps will employ a Striker).

I wonder if Finley will get looks as a true linebacker? Gil or Smith at Striker and Finley at Will, just for a few plays? Having to play Brooks in game 1 scares the **** out me. And of course, god forbid 55 or 56 turn an ankle. I know all summer I was told I was Chicken Little and that the LB spot would be fine. Anybody wanna take that stance now?

Bet this thread didn't turn out as you expected 😂. Guys in here just completely missing or ignoring the point of the thread is why i stopped making them.

And if he does not reshirt who gives a ****.

These kids have the option to leave in 3 years.

This entire thread is the same over-reaction OrangeBowlMagic had back in the spring here:

37 days and Team Tampon will have games to complain about and not if's and maybe's of the off-season.

Thanks for this. My exact concerns came true, and are now compounded by the potential loss of Joyner. No worries though, it's clearly a concern, and the staff will agree via their move of another body to backer once camp starts. I'm guessing it'll be Smith, but we'll see.

Yeah, we all know we have the most retarded fans in the country. Everyone does. Just gotta weed through them, there are some smart dudes on here who know ball. They're just few and far between, unfortunately.
