LB Depth

You might set the record for most retarded **** said in the first page of a thread. Please, sit this one out. There's gotta be other stuff on here you can talk about. Go find those.

No ones disputing we lack LB depth but newsflash tinkerbell we lacked depth last year too. That #1 defense didn't fall out of the ****** sky did it?

You think Derrick Smith, Finley, Frierson and Smith won't see the field this year?

I will stay here and assuage your tears.

Yall are really struggling with this. The lineup will be shaq and mike at mlb and wlb. Finley will be at striker. Zach will back up shaq and mike and also play striker in certain situations when more size is needed. Frierson will back finley up.

You've got to get off Xbox man. Real life doesn't work like this. Again, the same 3 backers we had last year are back this year. And in the FIRST GAME, in the FIRST half, Bradley Jennings was in the game. So no, McCloud doesn't back up everyone on the field.

Now, if your answer is that 55 and 56 need to play every snap, OK. It's moronic and unreasonable, but at least we're getting somewhere. But the 4th LB is a true freshman who is tremendously undersized. That is not ideal. You have to do something else. What is the solution? Because playing Sam Brooks in the first half of the first game at his size with his experience (and remember he didn't even play this position in HS, he was a pass rusher) is NOT what you want. It bit us in the *** very painfully against LSU. Jennings completely took himself out of a play and allowed a 50 yard TD run. I think Finley has to rotate in at LB for at least a few snaps....even in the base defense. Think something like 55 at Mike, Finley at Will, Smith/Gil at Striker. You can't roll with just 3 backers and **** I'd hate to have to play Brooks in this game.

So McCloud is the backup Striker, backup Mike, and backup Will? No. Try again.

We played the exact same defense last year to open the season against an SEC opponent, and early in the 2nd quarter a freshman named Bradley Jennings was in the game, and ran directly into a pile, taking himself out of a play, and allowing LSU to run for a 50 yard TD. That can't happen again next month. So again I ask, and please if you're clueless just click "back" in your browser, what options do we have here?

Assuming Huff isn't cleared and assuming Joyner isn't ready, which yes are assumptions and not certainties. But assuming we only have Shaq, Pinck, McCloud, and Brooks....is there a chance Finley slides down? Maybe Smith? They have to give someone else reps in camp at one of the backer spots.
Dude what are you talking about? What do you mean will finley slide down? Finley is already playing in the box at striker. Do you know what a 4-2-5 defense is?

Zach is the backup for shaq and mike. Frierson is the backup to finley. But because zach has experince at striker he will maybe get some reps there vs more heavy run teams if more size is needed.

Joyner isn't out the whole season and it clearly said he hasn't been ruled out for the uf game.

There is very good reason to be concerned, 2 out and our best prospect not yet cleared. I'm not worried for the first game but we need at least 2 quality backups as the season progresses things happen during the grind.

OBM is having a hard time with easy concepts.

It will all work itself out there guy. No need to insult your betters.

I'm done responding to you, you're clueless.

Mike Smith played in every game last year. He was the 4th backer. He played in every single game and made 40+ tackles. Who is the 4th backer this year? Right now it's Sam Brooks. That's concerning. Now please, let the adults talk.

Keontra Smith Tiffany

plenty of depth for the 4-2-5 defense.

"Gee guys will Finley slide down?" - OBM

He already did fella.....he already did....

You have no idea what you are talking about. The 4th LB will be joyner or brooks.

If Zach plays striker against bigger teams, that is the same as just playing a 4-3-4.

You're talking about different positions. Yes, Finley is playing Striker. I'm aware of that. I'm not talking about the Striker position. I'm talking about the Linebacker position, of which we only have 3 kids who have played in a college football game. You have to have a 4th kid ready for UF. Period. Last year it was Smith and Jennings. This year, as of today, it's Sam Brooks. That cannot be the option. So, IMO, you have to slide someone else into that spot, at least with a plan to play a few snaps there against UF. Nothing major, obviously Mike and Shaq will be your horses. But they have to come off the field. And you also have to play with more than 2 backers at times. Not having Joyner AND Jennings is a problem. We're still going to Orlando, we're not folding the program, the world isn't ending. But you're clueless if you don't think Manny and Baker aren't concerned about how they're going to play this.

Your post reminds me of another point.... I hope to god baker scraps the mass substitution thing. If I recall on that play you were talking about with jennings I believe we had him, Ivey, Bobby Knowles, bethel, Mike smith all in the game. I am all for rotating players but why basically put your entire second team out there at once?
