Last years class...

A few will surprise. They hardly ever do in Al Golden's passive system but kids always surprise in an aggressive attacking D. Some of the more unheralded kids may just be a bit more violent and instinctive when it comes to just killing the man with the ball. I have zero doubt that some of these dead weight guys, especially the ones who are beasts in the weight room, will surprise.

I agree , I'm sure the coach will find out the first week in pads who is leaving or staying

Any guesses? Gordinier at MLB seems like it could be a good thing. (depending on instincts)

Did you guys watch the games

McIntosh played

King and Henley will be giving the chance to compete most likely.

We'll also find out if Charles Perry and Michael Jackson can play.

Yes. So did AJ Highsmith. Will he be able to contribute in a 4-3 system? Not overly familiar with him.

At worst, Perry/Jackson add depth and will make impacts on ST.

How did Patchan look this year? Is McIntosh UM material? Thanks on the others. Was wondering how many of these lower tier recruits were recruited for the 3-4. (body types/frame seem to confirm that)
We haven't heard anything from or about patchan

So king can beat out McCloud, shaq, and Pinckney but gordinier can't? King is undersized and doesn't have spence like football IQ. Gordinier may grow into a wde much like AQm. Let's wait a year before calling him deadweight.

Henley has an uphill battle simply based on better kids getting signed this year. Byrd looks to be good enough to push for a starting spot. Redwine, Jackson, and Mayes are all bigger with playing time. Not calling him dead weight...another wait and see.

Guys like James King and Henley will flourish in this new scheme because they have elite speed I predict. Esp King. I have a feeling that he will be a surprise.

Guys like Fines unfornately wont be here much longer IMO. He is a 3-4 DT/NG. He is too slow for this scheme. I liked Gordinier but will his skillset fit this scheme? He was a perfect 3-4 LB. Can he beat out McCloud and Pinkney for a 2 deep spot in this 4-3 aggressive scheme?

Loftus will be shown the door this time next year.

I think the rest will be okay.

When did I say that King was going to beat the "Bermuda Triangle 2.0" out? I said he would flourish in this scheme. That could simply mean that he would be a blitz specialist on 3rd down..it could mean he will be our Nickel LB in certain packages.

We know that Gordonier isnt going to be a LB in this scheme and I dont know if he is a good enough athlete to beat out the guys who will be ahead of him at DE.

Henley has speed to burn. You cant teach that. He is coming in with just as much knowledge as some of the other guys regarding the system. NONE. Redwine and Jackson will have to earn their spots just like him. All I said was that if he was going to ever turn out to be a player, this is the scheme to do it in.

Completely stopped following recruiting near the end of FAT AL's tenure. Half these names are vague. Obviously I know the kids that played this year.. Anyone dominate on scout team? Signed 2 white DL (next Matt Walters)? Why did we sign 37 OL? Will most end up transferring? Who's Terrance Henley?
I don't think he's a scholarship player. If he is I missed that totally.

Didn't Alf reference king's 4.7 speed as elite?

Ohhh..let me guess..you are one of those guys who actually believes that every HS LB comes in running a 4.5 at 205lbs..

If you saw him live in HS this kid has some serious speed at LB. I know he ran the 100M in HS too. Now that we have a REAL S&C program, I expect him to be a 215lb LB with 4.5-4.6 speed once its all said and done. There are not many "Jermaine Grace" types hanging around. (A linebacker who runs a 4.45 flat at 215lbs.)

I thought Golden added him after he missed

Yes he is on scholie. He was a super late entry. He is from Ely High. A VERY low bust rate school. Kids who come out of Ely more often then not turn out to be players at the next level. I am sure Prop Joe/GoGeta will agree with this...

How many are good and how many will not be here much longer ?
2015 class
OL
Jones
Loftus
Gauthier
Mohoney
QB
Shirreffs
DT
Fines
DE
Gordinier
CB
Henley
Jackson
OLB
James King

Product of keeping a coach two years too long. Kids are not stupid, only university presidents and political nursing babies. We, unfortunately, had two of those in one person, plus Al.

Gordinier will be a player. Don Brown really wanted this kid from everything written about him. He will be a WDE or a solid SAM backer. He is very fluid for a bigger guy and has some athletic ability. I really think he can be a good WDE. He was around 235 in HS and he has a bigger frame to add good weight. He will contribute in the future.

I liked James King. If anything he can be good on special teams and provide good depth at WILL. He has speed and he seemed to pick up the system pretty quickly so he has some IQ.

Mohoney and Gautheir i think make it. Gauthier is a strong kid from a very good program out of HS. Those two have a chance IMO, but they are guards and we have a plethora of guards. If one of them can show they have footwork or can play tackle they will have a better chance.

Jackson has length and some speed. Don't know how fluid he is in the hips, but if anything another good special teamer with the right people.

All in all i think we'll have some good special teams kids for the future if not a couple of solid contributors. Not all 85 scholly guys are studs and starters on teams.

This thread has my observations on the freshmen (and team in general) after training camp. The best thing about the '15 class might be Norton and McIntosh solidifying the DT position.

Some posters had mixed reviews on Nortons freshmen year. Maybe I missed it but for a T-FR who wasnt a "cant-miss, sure fire, 5*" type recruit I thought he played well. He **** sure didnt embarass himself. I think we have our future DT stud for the next 2-3 years and great depth with GWillis, AMoten, and CJenkins.

Thanks. Just asking your opinion on a few things..

How is Washington as a blocker?! Seems like a Richt type TE. Do Jones & Loftus (or the other OL recruits) have the potential to see time at top power 5 programs? Is Gordinier too slow for this system? Fines a likely transfer? Is McIntoish a DT or DE in the 4-3? Who's better, Henley/Mayes?

Crow and odonnell are gone. Same with Moore.

To be clear, we only have two dead weights in the upper class (jones and Hamilton). Some may add Lewis but he has played. The rest of the kids we are talking about haven't played a down of ball yet and are 19-20 years old. we can only sign 25-28 this year and I'd rather sign 20-23 and save a few spots for 2017 than sign more late additions that are questionable while pushing out last years questionable kids. It looks bad especially when some are so Florida kids. Now, if mr has some studs lined up to get us to 25 then I think we can fine 2-3 to push out. Just hard to see that happening when we have 14 now with 3 weeks left and 2-3 aren't likely to sign or clear.

if you haven't notice we have several good DE on the team already and we seem to be landing more and more talent at this position like Bethel, Jackson and could land one more. Can he make it in the rotation with kids like Chad, Jackson, Quan? This is a question not trying to attack just wondering? This goes for several of kids who will get pushed down in depth chart as talent gets better. This isn't going to be gems its going to real talent coming in for now on

Jackson is fast off the ball which makes him a real threat. I agree on some we should wait but we have several DE, LBs, Cbs, OL who will never play. If Crow and Odonell had another two years you could add them to this list
