Its been a couple of decades since we had to worry about VTech or recruit the same caliber of athletes. However, this has suddenly changed with the arrival of Franklin. Franklin was a pest on the recruiting trail at Penn State and has amped up the irritation since arriving at Blacksburg. It seems like the recruiting battles were more due to him than the school.

100%

I already knew they would be the only team to worry about in the ACC as far as recruiting goes. FSU a bunch of retards for not firing MN and jumping on this hire immediately. They blew it big time pause, now they about to turn to the NY Jets.

PSU usually didn’t have very highly ranked classes but the evals were usually among the best given the results on the field

God what a shthole conference we’re in.

I think Mario learned we have to win these conference games by 21+ week in and out. Can’t get cute trying to grind it out against a bunch of 3* rosters. At some point talent disparity exceeds coaching prowess, but we should have the edge in both regardless.

Interesting thread to follow however this is a premature overstatement. In this cycle alone, Cal Berkeley and Clemson are poised to leap ahead of VT fairly soon with who they’re in contention for and who they have OVing.

VT will be much more talented than what they had beforehand though. So will other teams. UNC got some interesting players last cycle.

Current 2027 acc recruiting rankings sans Miami. 40% of Cal’s class and half of Clemson’s class are 4 stars compared to VT’s 38% rate. Chandler is one of Clemson’s lower rated 247 commits when only using 247’s ranking. Look how things change when we use the composite for 2027

Feels like these rankings are incomplete without knowing how roster retention went and how many quality players are leaving.

Georgia Tech did really well recruiting in 2025. They signed a blue chip OT who was a 5* on 247’s ratings system

FSU is off to an awful start in 2027 however they are still bringing a lot of higher/highly ranked guys on campus and I suspect their brand will get them to do finish better than they should given their last two seasons and the uncertainty ahead.

We kinda saw this with UF and LSU last cycle and how they were able to retain a lot of talent even after their coach was fired. FSU won’t do that well, but they won’t completely self-destruct.

VT should recruit well for now
And should benefit from that as long as they are even a little bit better than last year.

Its good for the conference, but as of right now its us, and then everyone else. However, we have a challenging year ahead of us. Need to capitalize on the success

They have nabbed a RB (Javian Jones-Priest) from Texas whose video is rather impressive.
He's apparently a track star too.
Similar profile to the other RB from PA.
Also, Elijah Butler, the safety from St.Francis (Baltimore) looks like a very good prospect.
They have a good opportunity to take advantage of neighboring Maryland, UNC, NCSU being on
downward trajectory plus in-state UVA not caring too much on HS recruiting.
