Last DT update

norton was getting his sh*t pushed in for most of the season but he seems to think he is ready for grown a** men

yeah okay

when sh*t hits the fan the only person he can blame is himself

Marcus Forston is a cop in ATL, maybe he can throw a word in for two fellow canes in a couple of years.

I by no means wish either of them bad luck but they are making a seriously bad bad decision. Whoever is advising these kids needs to be selling ice in Alaska

Does our football program have a professional adviser program? If not we need one. Not being a wise *** either.

When will these kids learn......

Never. But the criticism of us that call these decisions out as not being prudent by the kids, their hanger-ons and the general apologists will continue in perpetuity. We'll be "jealous haters", "fake" fans and homers that only care about our college team........even as many of us have zero issue with Walton declaring.

Walton declaring makes sense. How would be improve his draft position?

RJ and Norton can both improve their spot with another year of coaching and S&C. If either was projected by the NFL as first round picks I would not blame them for leaving.

Sadly, come April 26–28, 2018 McIntosh and Norton will be yet another pathetic example as to why most all UM underclassman should play their senior seasons to improve their draft stock.

I believe to my very core that had they stayed both of them would have been drafted anywhere from the 1st round to the 3rd round. The millions upon millions of dollars they are bypassing will be a lifelong lament for both of them. Unfortunately, as they get older this almost certain mistake will haunt them.

"I look back on the way I was then: a young, stupid kid. I want to talk to him. I want to try to talk some sense to him, tell him the way things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone, and this old man is all that's left. I got to live with that."

Good luck to them not sure they are making the right decision time will tell.

Looking forward to seeing

Willis

Bottom line: not much the school can do these days as kids are not only leaving early in droves, they are sitting out
bowl games which I think is first-class facquitry.
What we can do to mitigate this problem is recruit every position strongly EVERY recruiting cycle.
The days of waiting until the next class to address a given position are obsolete, if it ever existed.
Also, this is why you don't redshirt kids if they can contribute on the field, because if they are that good,
they will be gone after 3 years anyways.
One thing I think perhaps Richt and his staff should investigate, if they aren't already, is who are the agents
getting into the heads of these kids.
It wouldn't surprise me if there is a slimeball or two embedded within the program.

Agreed. I meant to say "even as many of US have zero issue with Walton declaring". Fixed it.

Yall are letting the emotion of losing two important pieces of this defense sway your thinking here, at least for McIntosh.

McIntosh is in a situation where he likely will be drafted in the 3rd-5th round range. That is pretty good for an early entry DT. Secondly if he did return, he'd certainly get a substantial cut in his Playing time. That is just a fact due to Gerald Willis rejoining the team and Bethel likely improving on last season. Fact is McIntosh just has way more competition for his position than Norton does.

McIntosh - 682 snaps
Norton - 527 snaps
Moten - 260 snaps
Bethel - 197 snaps.

McIntosh is making a solid decision by entering the draft. If he returned and Norton declares, he could also face the possibility of playing out of position (if he had to be slid down to the 1t and willis playing the 3t), which could also hurt his draft stock.

Norton, I will agree that he should have stayed another year. He has barely any competition, and anybody that would be competing for his spot would just be replacing the snaps that Moten took from him anyways. So Moten is in a position if he returned to actually get an increased amount of PT (though he still would likely come off on 3rd downs and stuff). However, though Norton did not have the best season, he is still a talented NT prospect, and those are much harder to find than 3techs are in the draft. So it is very likely some team will take a chance on him. So I'd expect him to be a 5th-7th round pick. But he definitely could improve his draft stock this year.

excellent summary, but only 5 people on here understand the TWO dt positions, most think they are the same.

RJ will be a 3-4 end

Norton will have student loan debt when he comes back to get his degree is a couple of years

However if this is their decision then i wish them good luck. Don't think it is the right decision, but they are Canes so good luck kids
Miami allows them to come back and get their degree for free. Absolutely sucks so many of these juniors want to get out on the first train smoking.

Good for the school is all i have to say then.

Alabama routinely gets 1st or 2nd round DL to stay one more year. Miami players seem to jump ship as fast as they can. Until that changes we will never compete.

their players get paid. Ours still live in dorm rooms

They get that stipend to live off campus though, don’t think they can do that though until after freshman year

The stipends are pretty good for college students.

Solid analysis but at the end of the day you're making the case that a kid that thinks he's NFL ready is mainly afraid of college competition for playing time.

That's our huge problem and one thing preventing us from being deep and better. Our players keep leaving to be drafted in the 5th round or later. Those are the players we need to stay and improve their draft stock. It's a win win.
