Larry Scott to Tennesee

****, he was the best coach on Goldens whole staff.

Why do people say this? Scott got the keys because it was the least disruptive move to the team.

He has an absolute beast of a TE and we totally under utilized him.
We just lost all of our TE commits.
We played like total shiat as far as penalties go for the rest of the year.
He agreed with that halfback pass in a FN blizzard.

I appreciate him taking the keys but I am not sure he is an elite coach...

My only reason for keeping him was for local high school ties.

I don't think he was overrated as a TE coach. He was a good TE coach, look at the development Walford made, Herndon and Njoku were coming on this season.

Not trying to discredit him but all 3 of those are super talented kids with great frames/athletic skill.

I wouldn't have minded him as TE coach but good for him getting paid. Win win for both schools IMO.

I don't buy that Richt wanted to keep Scott "badly." Seems like something Scott would put out there. He wasn't even Richt's first choice, Lilly was.

Seemed like a nice guy & wouldn't of minded him staying. With that said for whatever the reasons he's gone so......onward and upward!

I think it's a good move on both parts. If true, then I'm glad Mark offered him because it was the right thing to do. He's not an alum so I can understand why he'd want to move on. So Beard is the only coach who may stay, correct?

Agreed. This has spin written all over it.

I agree it was almost a move he had to make. You simply cannot cut all ties. Transition is super important. I think this now gives the WR position to Beard.

I personally like keeping former players on staff.

If you think its a bad move look at Coach K and what he does. His bench rarely has guys on it that didn't play for him (and I mean rarely) and he has plenty of other D1 schools out there whose head coach is a former Duke player and Ex-Duke assistant coach.

I think Scott has a bright future in coaching.

But I'm not distraught that he'll continue his efforts elsewhere.

I was OK with keeping Scott and Beard, but that said: Purge complete.

Not quite sure what to make of the news - offered by UM and was wanted back "badly" but instead chooses Tennessee.

I liked Scott and I know the players did, too. Very odd that he would leave unless he didn't feel he had security here long term.

EDIT - Now that I think about it, if I were "promoted" into a senior leadership role at my job, and then they found a replacement, I'm not sure I'd be ok with being demoted back to my original position again, especially if I did a pretty decent job in the interim.

Good luck to him either way - he made moderately happy to watch UM football for the first time in quite a while.

He also does not have any ties to the school. He also probably got more from Tennessee.

Do you guys think Jmmy Graham will retire to take TE coach position if Richt offers?

Is this serious? Or are you just being Funny? So many crazy things are being said on this board I can't always tell if serious or not.

Tom Coughlin just "stepped down". Hope we can get him for TE's.

What if we hired either Tommy Lasorda or Yogi Berra for the TEs? Both of those guys would kill it.

I agree with this. He wanted Lilly and he was slow playing Scott waiting on how the other positions worked out. Seemed to me like Scott was a take only if the other position coaches worked out a certain way.
