Larry Coker

Larrys got a ring, something many coaches only dream of. He's a good guy on top of that so I'm happy for him.

26-32 at a program he built but 0 bowl appearances. Ol' Slappy is another guy that'd have been better served career-wise longterm if he had only aspired to just be a coordinator at a big name college program or the NFL.

Had bowl eligible type seasons in his first two years in FBS (quickest team to get to that level in college football history IIRC). Unfortunately, NCAA wouldn't allow them to go to a bowl, because they were technically still on that weird probationary period. Georgia Southern had the same issue last year after they won the Sun Belt. Unfortunate. Coker did a good job building UTSA up from nothing. Within two years of football, UTSA was winning 8 games in FBS football.

Depends. Job security for coords is much less than for HCs. He's 67 yrs old now. His contract with UTSA pays him ~500k for the next 3 years for doing nothing. Not a bad early retirement.

It boggles my mind Ol' Larry is only 67. That guy has looked 80 years old since 1999. Wish him the best though. Golden for UTSA? He has ample experience coaching a group of 5 team to the peak of mediocrity, and UTSA is almost to that point already!

UTSAs first year in FBS was technically 2012. While being designated FBS they were also termed a program in transition (Reclassifying/Provisional), which allowed them to play a schedule that no other FBS team could play.

Of their 8 wins:
2 came against Div II teams (Texas A&M - Commerce, Northwestern Oklahoma St)
2 came against 1-FCS teams (McNeese St., Georgia St.)
2 came against other teams classified as Reclassifying/Provisional (Texas St., South Alabama)
That leaves 2 FBS wins - Idaho (1-11) and New Mexico St (1-11)

So, that 8-4 record didn't even rise to the level of a joke.

Not barking at you, I just wanted to shed a little light on how it goes while a team is reclassifying. Not everyone reclassifies this way, but it's how they treated the startup programs.

It would be the perfect opportunity for Al-bortion. He can ignore all the the talent in Texas and go after all world 2 star safeties from New Jersey.
