Lanorris Sellers to the U next year?

I'm old enough to remember 10-11 months ago people on this forum claiming the Columbus kid at Cal was a subpar prospect who was unathletic and not much of a passing threat, but Mario and his Columbus cartel would nab him off the portal because, you know, the Miami and Columbus thingie
Now the kid is a legit Heisman contender, running and passing his team to glory.
So much for the QB whisperers on this board.

Sellers main issue is that he is bad at hitting wide open WRs. A lot different from the questions about Cam at Wazzu. See some of the clips @TwentySix posted. He's not really being pressured in most of them. He just misses, often by a lot.

Tbf, Mario did pretty well with a historically inaccurate but athletic QB in Anthony Brown in '21. We'd definitely be able to run the ball well again if Sellers came here.

We're usually not this preemptive with offseason roster moves. We normally wait until the season is over, Bowl game is played & the 2nd NSD before we really put our focus on Portal additions.

This sounds like an NIL agent putting feelers out there to up the ante for a renegotiation come December-January.

Mario will address the 2026 portal needs in the January 2027 portal window
 
I doubt Sellers is leaving South Carolina. That said, if he chose to make that decision, I would hope Miami made a legit push to add him to the roster. In a world where most of the programs that are winning are either rolling with transfers, or guys that warmed the bench for years, to allow for full maturation, it makes sense to look at a very talented QB, that could use a bit more work.

I like Luke Nickel, and I think that Coleman has legit potential, but considering how much pressure Mario is under, he would be foolish to put his future in the hands of a young QB, if he doesn't have to.

One thing I learned during last year’s portal cycle: some of our fans think that every QB is bad.

If QB play is bad nationally, then grade on a curve. The guys with NFL interest are usually going to be better than the average college stiff.

Some of our fans are judging prospective (UM) QBs are on NFL measurables, which is a different matter than judging whether a QB can execute a college offense at a high level. Menendez may not be high NFL prospect material, but he is a dang good college QB. Too many of our fans go by one or two people's opinions. Herd mentality.

He would not look the same here at Miami, Miami can’t even coach up their own high school QB prospects or help Carson Beck with the zone coverages
