Lane vs Mario

Others leave their teams just prior to a postseason/possible championship run?

Not sure why reading comprehension is so difficult here. I have zero issues with him leaving for another job. AFTER THE SEASON. Who would, besides butthurt Ole Miss fans? I have a big issue with him running away in the middle of the night as his team prepares for a playoff run. That’s not right. Finish what you started.

That’s where the ultimatum comes in. Is he being forced to make a decision? We don’t know. His family visiting potential job locations the Sunday and Monday of a bye week is meaningless to me and isn’t going to cause me to overreact.

I’m not going to kill him when our own coach mailed it in when his previous team was making a playoff run. (And yes, it has been widely used as a defense for his Utah losses that he was at least 1 foot out the door - so, finish what you started applies there, too)

He’s a very good coach though.
No. Shared enough examples why he isn't.

He’s an elite offensive mind.
Nope.

LSU and Florida are easier to recruit at though i wouldn’t want to be the gator coach with that booster and fan base.
Easier to recruit but doesn't mean he'll make it happen. Lane hates recruiting and leaves it up to the NIL to throw the biggest bags. And Florida isn't a good place to recruit as long as Mario walks around here fighting for every target, half the SEC licking their chops and Ohio State grabbing every elite WR prospect.

If I were him, I'd be running to LSU in a heartbeat, but we all know why he won't do it and runs to Florida instead.

I know you weren't trying to fight (you failed to mention a meet up at Titanic); I was having fun with @PIPO and his response
🤣 my fighting days for whatever they were even worth are limited these days to internet DM battles with @PIPO and @423Hurricane who’s even older than me and can still kick my *** I’m sure.

Technically he did; ya’ll just didn’t know that.

When you set the bar low it's easy to clear. It's not a positive that I make sure to put gas in my car before it runs out.
Make sure to call a timeout so you have enough time to pick gas and not diesel.

It is to every person who's run out of gas.

Meanwhile, we're stuck in this rut with a full tank of gas going nowhere fast.

When was Mario in the playoffs at Oregon?

And I don’t care if Lane even does agree to a deal. Plenty of coaches have backchanneled new jobs while coaching meaningful games. But you don’t actually leave. I hear @Angry Ibis point, if they tell him GTFO that’s different. I don’t see how that happens though. He’s got them by the balls.

Lane says no old tomato...

Also doesn't fit the villain some want him to be.

Just win!

@Silentobserver @Zombie-Cane @Alex_Dynamix @tdjones34 since you each upvoted this, would each of you really take Mario as your head coach over Lane?

I was just agreeing with @OrangeBowlMagic sentiments about him possibly bailing on Ole Miss at this point of the szn. Both Mario & Lane have a history of dropping games they shouldn’t so it’s meh to me as to the question of one over the other…I just wanna see us compete for natties again idc if it’s @RVACane himself leading us there

Lmao from one of the biggest slurpers out there - a Manny Diaz one at that. Mario would have a lesser record in Lane’s situation. Lane would have had miami in the playoffs last year and this year Mario had the easiest path to the playoff last year and had Cam Ward at QB and he still couldn’t get us to the ACCCG.
@apb33323, I see you all over the board with your 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ all over the board to posts that in my opinion are 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯 and you have zero posts. I would love for you to share your actual opinions with us.

I think Lane is definitely a better coach but your opinion is reasonable regardless. He should finish out the season and anyone willing to pay him the money we’ve seen bouncing around should understand and accept that.

I definitely don’t want him to be a villain. I think he’s a great character for the game. But I’ve said enough on this topic, honestly all I’m commenting on is rumors anyway. Could all be total bull****. I really hope he wouldn’t literally bounce in the middle of playoff prep but who knows.

  • I've heard him say he loves it in Oxford no less than 5x this season. At some point, you just let people talk.. Today he denied any ultimatum ever happening and again reiterated he loves it there.

  • Of course he's not signing the extension mid-season. Maybe it's a distraction but they could've gotten that done in the off-season. He's rightfully keeping his options open & focusing on winning football games.

  • It sounds like you just don't like Lane Kiffin. Fair. He is a smart *** & has made some blunders in the past. Dislike him all you want. Just don't pretend he's doing anything wrong. He's not.

  • Ole Miss is not loyal to Lane Kiffin. They are loyal to his results. A coach shouldn't be any different. Weigh your options and choose whatever is best for your family.
plenty of coaches have signed the extension already presented to them, Cig, Lashlee, Elko, and more.

If his heart was in Oxford he’d resign already to end the circus and keep the team focused. Obviously he’s seriously considering a move which is fine. He’s handling it pretty well it’s not easy to keep the team focused and deflect when asked the same question repeatedly.

If I was a rebel I’d be fair to be annoyed that coach is thinking about his next stop though. He has every right to do so too

My thumbs up was in agreement to his ***** moves he’s making. He has shown to have, at least eventually, a circus around him everywhere. I do feel as well with the extra curriculars around the city of Miami compared to Oxford only amplifies that.
As far as a game day coach, Lane is hands down better, but he loses just as many head scratchers as Mario, so perhaps that’s closer to a wash.
As far as building a program, and sustaining, I’d choose Mario every time.
When it comes down to it, all Mario has to do to be ultra successful here, is back away and let his coordinators do what they’re paid for and just be the CEO.
Not sure if I fully answered your question, as it’s not as cut and dry as yes/no, so to speak.
Lane has a higher floor than Mario but he hasn’t really proven yet that his ceiling is that much higher. I’d compare Mario winning a weak PAC 12 to what lane has done in the sec. If Lane took over when Mario did I’m sure his first two seasons would’ve produced better than 12-13 and he probably would’ve had 10 win seasons like we did last season and are on track to this season
