Lane is a savage

Bro was fired by Al Davis for being a dumbass.

Left like a thief in the night at Tennesee.

Left under questionable conditions at Alabama.

Personally, I think he's an idiot.

He could've established a legacy at Ole Miss. He's leaving $9 million a year at a perfectly contented school.

...To go to LSU which the boosters will be up his *** to win now. Its not gonna work out, hes not winning a chip, and within 3-5 years, he'll be somewhere else.

He may very well be a skilled coach, but so was Bobby Petrino and Urban Meyer.

Human dog****.
LSU is a hot bed for talent , he is an offensive savant when it comes to play calling and hiring staffs. He will succeeed fast! Ole Miss was dumpster fire that he turned around ! He will succeed at the highest levels at LsU it’s too easy

Good question. I found the below online:

To work around this limitation for Coach Kiffin's contracts, Ole Miss used a structure that includes:

• A state contract, which is capped by the Mississippi law.
• A second, much larger contract with the Ole Miss Athletics Foundation (OMAF), which funds nearly all of his actual compensation.
• The OMAF contract has utilized provisions like automatic one-year extensions or rollover provisions (sometimes triggered by performance, such as achieving seven regular-season wins) to effectively extend the term beyond the four-year limit without violating the state's four-year cap on the official state employee contract.

This structure allows the university to offer long-term financial security while legally adhering to the four-year contract limit for state employees.
Ok that’s great information, thanks. I guess he really wants to win a Natty then because he effectively had longterm security of sorts at Ole Miss. He was earning a boatload too but if he wants a Natty, LSU all the way - the in-state loyalty from some of the best players in the country, the NiL and booster support… it’s the right move for someone with Natty aspirations.

There was no way they were hiring Lane or Freeze - I liked freeze by the way - and he bombed which surprised me. I was more interested in him than Lane at the time.

Mario frustrates me because he shoots himself in the foot more than once annually. He also incrementally improves and works hard so he’s not a lazy bum at all and I respect him for the work ethic but he’s a meathead of sorts. He needed to get to the ACCCG last year. He need to win it this year. We’re not going there this year like last year. And a lot of the game **** he does is so predictable. The prevent offense and defense. The A gap attack lol when we all know he’s needed to open it up. No he’s opening it up and we’re deadly yet we’ll be sitting home again. It’s unbelievably frustrating.

I get it - you've always been fair in saying what he does well and what he doesn't. I lost my **** a few times with him myself, in games like the GT game and against MTSU, etc.

He’s raised the floor. We’re not a joke anymore. That’s a big deal to me.

The evals over the last year plus has been really good. We’ve got a lot of young contributors and portal contributors.

Other stuff frustrates me like you.

“If he wants to win a Natty?” His best chance of winning a natty was staring him right in the face and he took another job.

He would’ve left here with 4 ACC Championships and #6……….

run no GIF
You’re probably right 😆

Listen I’m not gonna judge people for wanting to have *** with the psycho chick that will ruin your life. The *** might be worth it

This is the time coaches have to accept jobs if they’re moving on because of the ridiculous schedule. I blame the NCAA for it. The coaches are going on the timelines imposed on them due to the schedule.

You just said if he wants to win a natty, LSU all the way. He’s literally in the playoffs with a more than capable team with a high seed that is perfectly healthy and he made the choice to not try and win a natty. That’s the decision he made. Sure does seem like it’s not just about winning nattys

Again, the NCAA schedule forces coaches to do this now. It’s on them. All the schools are dealing with it. It was the ole miss AD’s decision that kiffin not coach in the playoffs. Kiffin offered. He did nothing wrong at the point we’re talking about. The school AD denied his offer. He’s the reason Lane isn’t coaching the team.

... isn’t there a 4 year contract limit for Mississippi public employees so he can’t get a longterm guarantee whereas at other schools he can lock up a longer term guaranteed deal???
Even if this is true, long contracts don't exist anymore in practice. Schools will eat extra years if they want someone gone. So if he wanted a "guaranteed" deal he could have negotiated something that increases buyout pain a different way. Kind of like Stoops has/had, which includes highly favorable payout terms, no offsets, and auto-extends each 10+ win season.

ETA: TemplarCane beat me to it.

You know that I usually agree with you, brother. But this time, I agree with Bill Cowher.

The Ole Miss AD couldn’t permit him to stay knowing that for the next 2 months he was going to be recruiting the entire coaching staff and team to leave with him to LSU. He showed no loyalty to his players that he supposedly loves. Since he can’t win the natty, he has now ensured that they can’t either.

I’m all for coaches being able to do as they please. But this was a major dirtbag move. Those kids have played through injury for him and given their blood, sweat and tears to try to win a title together. That’s not a good reputation to carry around with you. He’s not trustworthy. Players aren’t stupid. His future players will know that he’s a true mercenary, and they will have no qualms in doing the same to him.

I keep seeing people say this, but it’s not true. It’s just cope. You don’t leave LSU unless you’re going to the NFL or you’re about to get fired. Would Lane go try the NFL again? Maybe. But that’s the game. Leaving for the NFL isn’t the same as voluntarily leaving for another college job.

Will he eventually get fired? It’s almost a guarantee. No coach under the age of 60 at a top 10 legit title contending school like LSU, makes it out alive. 3 of their last 4 coaches all won titles and the only one who didn’t get fired (Saban) left for the NFL.
Finebaum said the job Lane really wants is the Bama job and he was upset he didnt get a phone call. Let Bama get smoked by Georgia in the SEC Championship game by 14-21 and miss the playoffs. Would be real interesting to see if the rumors of DeBoer wanting to leave is true or not

While I think Lane is a dirtbag, your point about the NCAA schedule is spot on. There's no good time for a coach of a P4 playoff team to leave for another P4 job. The G5 playoff coaches who leave are given the opportunity to continue coaching, since their schools are just happy to be there and they aren't winning the CFP anyways. See: Morris, Sumrall, and I presume Chesney if he goes to UCLA.

Don't think there's a perfect solution, but there has to be a better way than the current setup. Perhaps a rule that Colleges cannot contact/hire a currently employed coach until after the playoff is over, paired with pushing the portal window back to after spring practice? This wouldn't solve the problem of recruiting with the early signing period and spring term HS enrollees for teams that are firing/hiring (and would actually make it much worse), but I can't think of a fix that doesn't have a negative tradeoff.

Dude is an absolute savage and an *******. Putting the black hat back on.
They say, “A Tiger can’t change his stripes, and a snake can’t change its hiss”. Ole **** should have known what they were getting into when they picked this snake up from the side of the road. Now they are “surprised” when that very same snake bites em in the *** on his way out the door. You knew what he was, when you picked him up. You knew all of this before you hired him, but you hired him anyway…. you basically nursed his coaching reputation back to health. The snake says, “Oh I’ve changed… I won’t bite.” That’s what yall heard him say and wanted to believe. Fast forward a few years, and he just showed you how big of a POS he is, and has always been. As soon as you think you can trust him, “Ouch!!!” He bit you, and now trying to rip staff from the team and the season not over yet, lol. Lane Kiffin. Is all about Lane Kiffin. It’s actually kinda funny, if you’re not a fan of Ole ****. He got you guys as close to the top of the mountain as your program has ever been…. but hiring Lane is equal to flying too close to the sun, and now you’ve found out that you’ve gotten burned in the process. Lane’s an opportunist…. and he will always try to be with the prettiest girl in the room. It’s who he is. It’s who he’s always been. As he’s walking out the door, he probably told em, “Why are yall upset that I bit ya?…..You knew I was a snake, before you picked me up.”
