Know your enemy. Watch Appalachian State - Tenn game

You can see that offensively, they don't have a ton of talent. And the coach knows that. He didn't attempt to pass the ball because he knew it wouldn't work and would just result in sacks, incompletions, and INTs. They have some success running, but it's all based on misdirection and motions. They aren't just running at you, they really need to confuse you to compensate for the lack of talent. While that can work, and it worked somewhat against Tenn., when the talent gap is so large, it still isn't going to result in many big plays. The defense is still able to recover and make stops and keep gains to minimal yardage. Which results in them having to first down their way down the field to score. And that's difficult to do, which is why they only scored 13 against Tenn. and needed a botched punt to even get to that number.

Was the botched punt recovered in the end zone? The only reason UT got to 20 was because of a fumble recovery, otherwise it would've been fourth down at which there is no guarantee they score in OT.

They'll catch us on some fly sweep misdirection or a throwback screen when they get everyone flowing one way and the ball goes the other. They'll use our hyper aggression against us to trick us up for some points. Key is for the young guys to not get rattled and go in the tank when they trick us up because it's gonna happen.

The question will be how well do the freshmen linebacker's stick to their pregame preparation? If they get into situations where they begin to rely on what they are seeing versus what they know from film study, they could be putting the secondary at risk. That said, unless the ball is in Miami territory, it'll likely only result in 15-20 yard runs.

Not that I remember? I'm not sure what your point is? That you had to "earn" the rest of those yards? I agree. Off of a quick shift in momentum, your offense earned the rest of the short field. Congrats.
The fact still remains that it's not a very talented team on offense. And because of that, it's doesn't take a lot of chances, and uses misdirection and motion to try to gain an advantage. Which can work against the lesser quality of competition you play. But it's difficult against teams with far better athletes. Because that motion and misdirection is creating some holes sometimes, but not big plays. So you still end up having to first down your way down the field. Which makes it difficult to score.
And I agree, UT sucks on offense. This is now two straight weeks that all the things people pointed out last year and all off-season, have manifested themselves into a horrible offensive performance.

Yup - on offense App. State is Georgia Tech-Lite.

They're all about that misdirection, and that can wreak some havoc on a team that flies to where it thinks the ball is going. The young LBs and our DEs need to be disciplined in their aggression and not take the cheese.

or as AG would say..cheeseburger

Only thing that scares me is look back at the FAU tape. We sent the house on some blitzes and if the QB could just add a little touch on that screen play and to the TE they might have scored...I know the blitz helped hurry the throw but it's something to look at especially since APP state uses a lot of misdirection and will do screens. I am not that worried about losing this game, I just hope we don't give up a huge score early on like that.

Yeah. But thats the nature of the blitz. Its like the sword. You live and die by it. And like Liberty City El previously mentioned.

Different game plan for different teams, bruh.

I know man, I would rather get burned by trying than not with the previous scheme.

Well the good thing is app state has already shown their hand. They may pull out a play or two but diaz is going to have those boys prepared this week.

Another good one. Every Dobbs pass vs Appy State.
App. played off a lot. Even in the 4th Quarter Musburger is pointing out all the space App State. is giving the Tenn. WRs. And that's with the game on the line. We have to be able to take advantage of that, unlike Dobbs. How he isn't checking to hot reads on some of those obvious blitzes I have no idea. They should be burning App. State on those. Instead he hikes it, turns his back and starts to try to run out of the pocket. Just an absolute idiot.

Ive mentioned this 1000 times. If app plays us like that they stand no chance. Richt is going to eat all that cushion up.

Njoku should go off this game. Marquez is going to eat.

App state linebackers are not about that life. That dude is ol skool physical.

Sorry, Bro. I don't see App. State dropping 17 points on our Defense. That is not going to happen. Another thing, we will hang 40+ on them.

Kaaya has not performed up to standard because Richt has not performed up to standard as a play caller. I am not high on MR as playcaller these days, but MR knows he has to perform. Let's be honest...it's been 11 years since MR called plays. He is rusty AF. MR took entirely too long to adjust last week. This week, we should expect more urgency and focus from MR. He will settle Kaaya in early and then Boom!

This game will not be close.
You had me until that second paragraph...

You know mark richt didn't call plays at Georgia during his "decline" right?

Also I would throw in that we have played famu and fau and it would be pretty silly to judge him as a play caller when we have used probably 25% of our playbook

It does not matter why he stopped calling plays at this point. He Stopped. However, I have never known a coach to step away only to watch his team under perform.

Look, no smart OC lets his QB struggle too long. MR did not adjust his passing game until the second half. Kaaya was stinking up the joint from the first whistle.

Miss me with that 25% of the playbook BS. If Kaaya could not hit the side of the barn with 25% of the pllaybook, what makes you think he would fare better with more playbook. Kaaya needed to be settled down. MR gave him simple throws in the 2nd half. MR should have did it earlier.

MR and Kaaya will be better on Saturday. I guarantee it!

I disagree. changes were made mid 2nd quarter or sooner and offense was rolling

This is what I thought also.

We don't need Kaaya Plays to be great to win. That was Golden Mentality. Our defense is playing like a defense. Kaaya doesn't need to be a play maker on this team. He needs to stop pressing and take what he's given. We need to punish these dudes with our Lines and make a statement. Tennessee plays finesse ball sideways bull. We need to go str8 ahead.

Btw nothing blows up and option like guys in the backfield. These guys are a lesser version of GT. Their offense is built on the same premise. We have to match their intensity and we'll be fine and roll.

It will be interesting to see this Defense against offenses like this. Will the aggression blow it up or run by it. This will be a great litmus test for the young LBs especially with GT coming up next week. This is actually a great spot to have this game. The fact that they played UT close, and the fact that its an away game is actually going to help us a lot. That is why this game is getting so much publication as a possible trap game etc. If UT had crushed them we would be way more likely to overlook them as well.

I think that Kaaya and the WR will be the key to this game. They have not seen anyone like Coley or AR12 yet. Those dudes can run right by anyone. The first quarter is going to be key. We need a solid first drive, and a stop. If we can even get up by ten in the first half this baby will be over.... That team will not be passing the ball on us.

This could also be a great chance to really work the Power I stuff as well. Our FB is bigger than their DL, let alone what he might do to their LBs.... Ohh that might get ugly.... The more I think about this game the more I think its a blowout. I am feeling a 45-10 game. with the possibility of a shutout. But I do think they will string a drive or two together. I think its inevitable that they trick our young LBs at some point for a big gainer. Or even a long play action throw, Carter is a sucker....lol

DEs need to rush up the field and blow up their jet sweeps and contain. LBs and DTs clog the middle, take away the inside runs and force the QB/RB to go outside where our DEs are. DBs stick to their man/zone. We do all that we should be ok. From all accounts their QB doesn't scare anyone so keep everything inside.

***We will need to rush with controlled aggression and not just go 100 MPH***
