The following is a side-by-side roster comparison of current rosters for Miami and Notre Dame heading into the 2025 season

Names in green denote incoming players in their first year in their respective programs:

AVERAGE COLLEGE EXPERIENCE
  • 1.77 years (Miami), 1.61 years (Notre Dame)

AVERAGE 247 RATING
  • 2025: 0.9026 (Miami), .9102 (Notre Dame)*
*excludes transfers Carter Davis (PK) and Adam Booker (LS), neither who have been given a 247 ranking

If special teams are excluded, Miami's composite is .9075. Notre Dame would be .9136

MIAMI POSITION ADVANTAGES (RATING)
  • Wide Receiver (.9252 vs .9092)
  • Defensive Tackle (.9213 vs .9045)
  • Defensive End (.9301 vs .9057)
  • Safety (.9065 vs .8992)

NOTRE DAME POSITION ADVANTAGES (RATING)

  • Linebacker (.9262 vs .9002)
  • Cornerback (.9105 vs .9059)
  • Special Teams (.7646 vs .6999)

NOTES
  • I've listed CB Xavier Lucas in the safety group, but he could easily stay at CB the entire season
  • Notre Dame is carrying 10 safeties to our 6 (which excludes Lucas)
  • The 2025 Hurricanes have the highest blue chip total of any squad in the last twenty years. It presently jumps from 42 in 2024 to 53 this year. This is the first time that blue chip totals have exceeded 49 players in at least twenty seasons
  • This year's total signing class is the most weighted towards blue chips of any class in the last twenty years as well, at 58%. The closest previously were the 2023 and 2007 classes (58%). Last year was 43% by comparison
  • Attrition this year was the lowest of the modern NIL era at just 30 players, again reflecting the youth of the overall team last year
  • Notre Dame has the experience advantage in the following position groups: WR, TE, RB, DT, and DE
  • Miami's defensive ends have a collective CFB experience average of just 1.1 years. Without Messidor that average experience falls to just 0.6 years
  • Miami's true freshmen average .9095 in composite, Notre Dame's true freshmen average .9030
  • Miami has 17 transfer portal players on roster compared to 7 for Notre Dame

Healthy Beck> whatever they throw out there. Are there any updates regarding his arm? Season is riding on him being healthy. The atmosphere is gonna be insane, hopefully 2017ish like. If so I got Miami handling the Irish.

Good stuff man. The program is definitely trending up on paper with the blue chip facts you noted. It's time the coaches put it together on the field.
I thought Wallace was a Safety? And how the **** Luka Gilbert already have 3yrs experience on him? 🤣

The more I think about the talent on this roster and how it fits within the schemes of the coordinators I have become more confident that Miami will win this game.
Concern is hype based largely off what is seen on paper and feel-good reports. True picture won’t be known till see players and schemes on the field.

My worry is ST weakness. If the game is close, that’s what could cost us, whether a missed FG/XP or simply them getting better field position.
ST is not a weakness at all, this staff addressed that area very well in the portal and I personally believe if Auburn can return to his 2022 and 2023 form, Miami could have one of the best special teams units in the nation.

Special Teams Portal Additions:
K Bert Auburn
2024 preseason All American
Yes he had a down year in 2024 but his struggles were more of a mental thing than talent, if it was talent he would have been trash in 22 and 23 as well, instead he was one of the best kickers in the nation those years.

K Carter Davis
Kickoff specialist
He will help avoid kickoffs being returned to the house. He had 45 touchbacks on 61 attempts in 2024.

LS Adam Booker

KR Keelan Marion
Im 2024 he tied for nation leader for kick-return touchdowns with two and was 12th nationally in yards per return at 26.2. He returned 18 kickoffs for 472 yards.
  • First Team All-American return specialist (Walter Camp, FWAA, Pro Football Focus, CBS Sports, Phil Steele; 2024)
  • Second Team All-American return specialist (Sporting News, College Football Network; 2024)
  • Big 12 Kick Returner of the Year (College Football Network, 2024)
  • All-Big 12 First Team return specialist (College Football Network, Phil Steele; 2024)
  • All-Big 12 Second Team return specialist (Big 12 Coaches, 2024)
  • Second Team All-Big 12 all-purpose performer (AP, 2024)
PR Keionte Scott
2023 2nd Team All SEC as a returner
In 2023 he led the SEC in punt return average (14.8)

Gunner Briton Allen
He should be able to replace Maekeith on kick coverage.

In addition to these players, just the overall increase of speed and talent from the last 2 recruiting classes should help both coverage teams as well. I could see guys like Kellen Wiley and Amari Wallace having a similar impact on special teams that we saw from Dylan Day last season.

I’d love to see some ST coaching that puts teams on their heels. We need to make our opponents fear a block and return. Hurry punters into returnable kicks. That was part of our past success. I hope to see improvement this year, lots of improvement.

Go Canes!

Thanks a lot for this breakdown. This does make me feel better. I hadn’t quite seen it put together in this way, and only hearing (in general) that it’s going to be worse / a weakness for the whole offseason was, as I said, worrisome.

You really think it could be one of the best in the nation though? Not sure ST coaching matches that. What’s your take? Or maybe I should ask how are you measuring best ST in the nation?

I think what is going to make it successful is being net positive in field possession, the fact that Miami now has a former All Conference punt returner and kick returner this team should always have good field possession.

Having 75% of Carter Davis kickoffs going for touchbacks will help the coverage team immensely. Remember last season Andres Borregales, and Abram Murray combined only had 65% of their kickoffs touchbacks.

In the 2024 college football season, the average kickoff return yards per attempt across all FBS teams was approximately 22.4 yards. For context, Miami allowed 22.36 yards per kickoff return during the same season, which is slightly below the national average. Eliminate the two kick returner touch downs and the average is 15.61 yards per return. More touchbacks = less return attempts and less return yards, thus creating a positive return coverage.

Both kick returner touch downs were missed tackles by Markeith Williams 🤦🏾‍♂️ replacing him with Briton Allen should solve that problem.

College kickers miss field goals, that’s simply what they do, so Auburn just needs to make the easy ones and be 50% on the kicks over 40 yards and that will be more than enough.
Only three kickers over the past ~15 years have recorded NCAA‑qualified career FG percentages between 85% or higher
  1. Nick Sciba Wake Forest 89.9%
  2. Kenneth Almendares Louisiana 85.2%
  3. Alex Raynor Kentucky 92.6%

Bert Auburn kicking stats at Texas

2022
  • Field Goals Made/Attempted: 21/26
  • Field Goal Percentage: 80.8%
  • Extra Points: 55/55 (100%)
2023
  • Field Goals Made/Attempted: 29/35
  • Field Goal Percentage: 82.9%
  • Extra Points: 56/56 (100%)
  • Notes: Set Texas single-season record for field goals made (29); made 19 consecutive field goals during the season.
2024
  • Field Goals Made/Attempted: 16/25
  • Field Goal Percentage: 64.0%
  • Extra Points: 64/64 (100%)
  • Notes: Struggled from long range (6 of 14 from 40+ yards), but remained perfect on PATs.

Special teams overall should be a strength. I do worry about Auburn tho, hopefully he returns to form this year.
He will. The down year was the exception for him not the rule. He has been a 80% kicker since high school, 2024 is the only season in his life that he has kicked below 80%. In high school his career average was 81% and his first two years as the starting kicker at Texas his average was 81.85%

Wait we have the advantage at safety and DT but not OL?

John Cena Mind Blown GIF
On paper the average star ratings are higher for Notre Dame. Ditto for Texas (at least last year).

On the other hand we're higher than Florida, and last year the OL was rated more highly than any of our opponents.
