Know thy enemy: How good is Norvell?

One of the best play callers/offensive minds in the country imo. Seems like a weirdo tho lol

It didn’t even take 3 posts for the boogeyman to make its way into this thread.

Hate to break it to you, but he won’t win 4 games next year.
Lol his team was 1-11 this year. Winning 4 games would be a huge accomplishment for them. We won 5 games this year and we were ranked in the top 20 to start the year.

I don't think anyone can say he will fail or succeed yet at Colorado but he is clearly proven as a recruiter and he's building a legit staff. We have a proven recruiter/former player here as our coach and he's recruiting well. I am sure Deion could do the same at FSU given the chance if he continues trending in the right direction at Colorado

Norvell is a good developer. He isn't going to recruit at a high level. But with the transfer portal he won't have to. I expect them to have another good year next year with a lot of their key player returning. Now the problem for him is he can't slip up at all. If he has a season worse than the one he just had then FSU fans will completely turn on him. I don't see any Nattys coming anytime soon but he will be a thorn in our side if it goes unchecked for to long. Mario needs to beat Norvell to stop their momentum.
Norvel & his staff is excellent evaluators portal transfers talent...... good developer as well as very good game day coach
tough and worthy competitor and he will be around for awhile

He has FSU rolling. Their offense is going to be lights out next year. Jordan Travis should be a pre season heisman front runner. They have a chance to make serious noise next year.

I don’t know what they do after Travis leaves but I think Norvells offense is excellent.

Mario stinks to high heaven as a gameday coach. We should be worried about norvell on game day. On the recruiting trail Mario will eat his lunch for years to come
They were much improved this year, Travis especially, but he’s not going to be in any Heisman lists. Guy went from being a terrible QB to a slightly above average one. Norvell uses him very well, and let’s him distribute the ball well.

They have a chance to be a good team next year, assuming additional portal guys work out. However, of those 9 wins only three were against above .500 teams. They lost to anyone at their level or better. Again, improvement and Norvell deserves props, but they need to show more next year to determine whether it’s sustained or Michigan State 2.0.

He'll need his Jordan Travis every year. But he doesn't recruit well and will have to sustain success in the portal. But that is pretty much every team

He’d make a decent coordinator on a championship caliber team. He’s limited as a head coach simply because he can’t recruit. No matter how well you gameplan, you’re never going to break into the elite level when you’re recruiting at his level. This year was his big chance to capitalize on on-field success and they’re still nowhere near the top ten in recruiting rankings. Even if he kills the portal every year, FSU is stuck in that “good but not great” zone that Miami has been bumping against for a while. Pretty much meaning you’ll win 7-9 games a year but never compete for anything of substance

All jokes aside, both myself & newly the reformed Liberty City El were high on Norvell. It was looking bleak for a minute, but as my boy who’s dialed in to FSU stated, Jimbo & Willie did a raw dog on FSU’s program.

Norvell is corny af, & I believe he’ll struggle to recruit high end HS kids consistently, but guys who enter the portal w/ 1 or 2 yrs b4 making the league, he’ll be able to snatch.

He can scheme & he’s a good coach. Not sure if he’s the type to get FSU back to 90’s prominence or even early 2010’s, but I think he can keep FSU w/in the 9-11 win/yr range.
I think Dabo is corny AF - it took him some time but he eventually made it.

Do I think Norvell is the next Dabo? Probably not, but my point is that players are willing to overlook corny if you can coach.

They eerily remind me of us in 2020. Team that had some lucky bounces and beat everyone they should have, but lost to anyone at their level or above.
I don't think that is a fair comparison, Miami got blown out by Clemson and UNC that year. FSU's worst loss this year was 10 pts to a decent (definitely not great) Wake Forest team and the other 2 losses were to decent teams by 6pts and 2pts. Unlike Miami vs Clemson and UNC in 2020, there wasn't a game where FSU looked like they had no business being on the same field.

I think if anything though, the trajectory of FSU from year one to three, makes me feel better about Mario; that a team and coaching staff that everyone thought was terrible has been able to do pretty well... and that is w/o strong recruiting.

He ain't no slouch. Leaps and bounds better than his most recent predecessors. FSU did very well considering their financial limitations.

It's clear that Norvell was getting axed after this season unless he performed and he did pull it off.

When he first came to Trailerhassee, I thought he might be dangerous, then he crapped the bed his first two years and looked like a bust, but then he pulled off a solid season for the Noles. So, what do we think of him? Was this season the best he'll ever have or is he truly building something there?
His offense can be lethal. Especially that run game. What he’s gotten out of that QB Travis..nobody so that projection..got to give him hella credit on that..their recruiting efforts tho…we’ll we’ve all seen the videos..I think he’s in year 4..I guess you give him a slight break on 2020..but FSU should definitely be recruiting better..Miami and UFs footprint in Florida are far and away better than FSU. And ultimately that’s what decides championship level programs

I really don’t understand why you guys downplay the kid so much on this board. He stunk when he got there… he has improved exponentially year after year. He finished the season playing as good or better than any qb in the country. Based on his trajectory how much better will he be next year? He was 2nd team all acc this year and played lights out to close the year…. And 90% of the offense returns with him

If TVD was getting heisman smoke. You bet Travis will. I get it, he’s a nole…. But I respect good football players and he’s a gamer. Improved year after year throwing the ball and is the best athlete playing qb in the country. He’s the real deal

Dabo can recruit his **** off, whereas, at the moment, that doesn't seem to be the case for Norvell.

Geez, the slurping…Jordan Travis is a 5th yr player and soon to be a 6th year player in 23..corch is fortunate with that.

Norvell is terrible at HS recruiting and will get worse now that Cristobal has quickly established who the recruiting Boss is. Plus, Napier will also destroy Norvell on the trail. Throw in UGA, Clemson, LSU and Bama for the top HS players and Norvell will be left with scraps. The dude has literally built a roster of transfers.

As for this season, lucky in wins against LSU and Lville. The FSPoo great season could’ve easily been 7-5..
