Know thy enemy: How good is Norvell?

It's clear that Norvell was getting axed after this season unless he performed and he did pull it off.

When he first came to Trailerhassee, I thought he might be dangerous, then he crapped the bed his first two years and looked like a bust, but then he pulled off a solid season for the Noles. So, what do we think of him? Was this season the best he'll ever have or is he truly building something there?

Agreed. But, do we see a Norvell led Nole team as a threat moving forward, or has he peaked?

Norvell is a good developer. He isn't going to recruit at a high level. But with the transfer portal he won't have to. I expect them to have another good year next year with a lot of their key player returning. Now the problem for him is he can't slip up at all. If he has a season worse than the one he just had then FSU fans will completely turn on him. I don't see any Nattys coming anytime soon but he will be a thorn in our side if it goes unchecked for to long. Mario needs to beat Norvell to stop their momentum.

He’s a good coach that is dependent on the portal for talent. Sustainable? We’ll see.

Last year is as good as it gets for FSU & Norvell, they’ll never be better than that, & lose to every ranked team they play…he will get an extension if he has a good year this year, and I hope he gets that extension… his recruiting is horrid

He’s a good offensive mind and plays the portal pretty well tbf, but it remains to be seen how sustainable that is..And his awkward recruiting limits their ceiling on becoming a top program again..

People love shiitting on Norvell.

I have said from day 1 that Norvell is a very solid offensive minded head coach. His game day offense will not be the reason FSU loses. His achilles heel is as a recruiter. He is mediocre at best on the trail. If the portal did not exist he would never make it at FSU. But it does exist so Prison Mike will live in the 7-10 win category *** long as they continue to hit on their portal targets.

I wont say he is a bad coach. Early in games he seems to have a really good plan. But against good defenses he doesnt seem to have a back up plan once a team adjusts or has the talent to adjust.

Everything went their way this year. Healthy, Some teams that were expected to be a little better were baaad. Missed Extra Points, Awful final drives(Ville), and a few of their portal guys really paid off.

That being said they went 9-3 and only had 3 wins over teams with winning records like mentioned in another thread. With one of those being over LSU in game 1 due to a missed XP. The other two were over 7-5 teams.

So I think the jury is still out. They should have enough on offense to win 8-9 again next year but the NC talk coming from their fans is a bit much...esp since they get LSU in game 1.

Norvell is a X and O’s guy if he gets the right people they will be a big threat down the line, they’ve improved every year under him

Hate to break it to you, but he won’t win 4 games next year.

He hits on the portal because he misses so much on the trail. Portal guys wanna come in uncontested with no talent at spots. If we Mario stacks classes like 2023 we’ll have no problem handling FSU every year and they’ll eventually fire Norvell. He’s a good XO coach and developed Jordan Travis into a good QB compared to a one dimensional mediocre QB.
