He stacks talent, develops it and wins championships with it.
Period. The end.
Period. The end.
Big facts. The final score is the only real result at the end of the day.
The what if game is dudes hating from outside the club when they cant even get in type vibe
I think it's a combination of things, and I think kirby might be proving it. If I remember correctly there were a few things he did in his early HC years that made him look real bad in game. Having the best of everything sure can make a guy look good. If I have the fastest bike on the planet I will win the large majority of my races. But if a really good rider shows up, I can be beat.. or if another dude shows up on the same bike I better be able to ride or I'll get beat. My point being, having the best bike on the planet sure does make me look good whether I deserve it or not.Agreed, & upsets can & will happen even to the best, but to put this in to further context:
Here’s Kirby’s worst losses:
5-7 Ole Miss, 6-7 Vandy (2016)
4-8 USCe (2019)
In 7 yrs, Kirby has had 3 bad losses. We’ll call that an anomaly or an upset special. Coker had 7 bad losses in 4 yrs despite talent discrepancies. That’s y I’m of the opinion is not just about Jimmy & Joes, it’s also about X’s & O’s. If it was strictly about Jimmy & Joes, then my friend, Miami would be the poster child of the ACC Coastal & Texas would be the poster child of the Big 12.
Imo, coaching can overcome Jimmy & Joes b/c Utah taught me that. Harbaugh at SDSU taught me that. Meyer at Utah & Bowling Green taught me that. Chip Kelly at Oregon & now UCLA taught me that. But those guys have a glass ceiling w/o the Jimmy & Joes; but once, a good coach have access to those Jimmy & Joes, it’s a wrap. Talent can overcome coaching deficiencies for so long.
I’m sure we can all appreciate your point. This thread would look much different if the Ohio State kicker didn't choke.
I fully believe Saban/Kirby could've won a few of those games we lost. But our rankings didn't match our actual talent at that point. My point is that Coker won one Nat’l title, but despite all the talent that was accumulated via recruiting from 2002-2005 (#5, #4, #3, #9 ranked classes)
We lost
-To a 8-5 VT team (2003)
-Back to back games to a 6-6 UNC & 6-5 Clemson teams (2004)
-To an 8-5 FSU & 7-5 GT teams (2005)
-To a 7-6 FSU, a then G5 UL, THEN losing 4 in a row that included to a 5-7 UVA team (2006)
Let me ask u, with those classes, do u think Kirby or Saban r losing to these squads that Coker lost to?
Realistically, Larry Coker should be on that list.Three coaches have won back to back titles in the modern era. Osborne, Saban and now Smart. Doesn’t matter if he just collects talent and out talents everyone. Urban was unable to do this, so was Dabo. Smart isn’t corch no matter how much we don’t want to admit it.
The day he loses Monken is the day they take a step back.
It's not the X's and the O's but the Jimmys and the Joes... They'll have their pick of top coordinators and failed head coaches to choose from.Nah. They're Bama 2.0 now. They'll just hire the next NFL OC for 2.5M a year.
You’re not wrong. I think we all realize Coker wasn’t why his teams made it where they did. The three aforementioned built their rosters.Realistically, Larry Coker should be on that list.
