Would be a solid hire for them. SEC guy, can recruit, but at the end of the day, he won't take them beyond their usual 8 win seasons.
 
Hmm, they must not know Mario Cristobal and Butch Davis are available.
 
Just goes to show you the Tom Herman stuff is bs... or at least way overblown to what it really is, probably an interview.
 
Now this is more plausible. SEC loves to hire coaches with conference experience. Smart will be a head coach in the SEC next year. Most school realize he's the best available coordinator and the time is right.

My opinion it's nonsense. No way Houston gives him permission before the season is over. They've got a huge game against Navy on Friday. He knows his agent's phone will be blowing up in two weeks.

Exactly, usually nothing like that is agreed upon like that in season. Too much risk associated with contracts with the current schools, it could result in law suits and **** like that if you aren't careful. Also, I think Herman is a better guy than to lose focus on a team that has 1 loss, could be in a new years 6 bowl, about to win his conference. IMO he's focused on that 100%. That is just the dog in him that I see, all the outside stuff.. he ignores it until the work is done. That's why I like him

As long as nick saban is there alabama will always be top 2 year in and year out!!!!

Herman has reportedly withdrawn himself from consideration for the USCe job. USCe moving on to backup plans. That's why this is the story now

I was always surprised that his name rarely came up over the past couple years. He's been ready for a couple years now. Not even a small gig before this? Something was weird to me.

Speaking with a Ex-lineman that bridged from Saban to 2 years under Schnelly the other day....he was all about Kirby Smart as UM's next coach.

Hard to argue against his position that bringing in $EC type discipline and coordinator over arguably the best defense in the country during his tenure would be unreal in the weaker ACC.
