I believe this game is won or lost based on our DB play.
  • If our CBs are unable to press UF's receivers, Mertz will hammer us with "bang-bang" passes all game long. Pressure won't matter because no one can get to the QB in under 1 second. Same goes with whoever is covering their TEs.
  • On the other hand, if we hold their receivers at the line and give our DL some time to work, UF is toast. I've watched enough Mertz games this offseason to know he cannot throw accurately when scrambling, he needs time to set his feet
Secondarily, we need to win the turnover battle. Ward doesn't throw many picks. But he does take sacks and fumble. I think that was largely a product of a really bad WSU OL and Ward felt he had to carry his team on his back. If he trusts this team and Dawson, and protects the ball, we score 35+ and there is no way UF can keep up.

Control the line of scrimmage, if I had to add a second it would be FOCUS .

We will have (2) opponents turds and referees and must beat both and not putting game in referees hands.

This how we will WIN🙌🙌🙌

For me D$ nailed it. They are going to be throwing quick to neutralize our pass rush. If our secondary can hold these plays to 3-7 yards and not miss tackles turning them into big plays we win comfortably.

The DL needs to get their hands up and knock down some balls. They haven't been very good at that the last few years.

I think it comes down to winning the turnover battle. On paper we are the better team. But we are playing at the swamp and first game is always a bit sloppy. We just need to protect the ball and wear them down. No stupid turnovers, especially something like a muffed punt inside the 20. We do that and I think we win a fairly close game.

We know how it’s gonna look if Florida needs to play us in a phone booth

Just because it’s what Mertz can do doesn’t mean it’s what can beat us. We know all too well what it looks like when you can’t throw the ball deep
