Keys to Offense against Notre Dame..

run some wildcat with Deejay and Homer in the backfield. allows you to still use read option, while not having rosier get hit as much. **** you could run RPO with deejay as the "qb" too. lots of opportunity for creativity this week.

This might not be a bad game to mix in being a little more deliberate at the LOS. Run up fast, get them to show their look on D, then back off.

Looks to me like part of Rick's master plan was to save as much wear and tear on Rosier as possible in the first 2/3 of the season by not running him all that much. Now, he has Rosier's legs to use much more against the two best teams we face.

Rewatching the game a couple of times it felt that Rosier was saved up to this point. Maybe i am a CMR homer thinking it was coaching, but there was an urgency to get the QB run game rolling and get it going early more so than any previous game.

What I noticed was that Rosier's reads were waaaaayyyyyy better than previous games. It allowed him to be more effective running than he's been all year.

Notre Dame defense is a lot worse than Virginia Tech who has an elite defense and we pretty much did whatever we wanted against them

Actually VT had an elite defense until we went up and down the field on them all game. Now some in the media are starting to question how good that defense really is....you know cuz they can't give Miami credit for anything.

I have a feeling that they are going to try and confuse Rosier by rushing 4 and dropping everyone else back in coverage, with a spy on him. If this happens, he is going to need to be patient and take whatever is there - forcing the ball in the middle of the field in that scenario is likely to be a disaster for us. Also, if they are going to play defense that way, we absolutely need Homer to have a good day. I think they are going to try to test our patience, take away the big plays, force us to sustain drives and execute in the red zone. That might be a good strategy for them...it's not something we see a lot of in the ACC.

If they drop 7 into coverage every play and we can’t run the ball, we deserve to lose. Need a rushing performance like the one we had against VT.

This. If they are dropping 7-8 often enough and we can't get anything going for Homer (or even a short passing game), it will be a long day for us.

If they are in 2 high safety most of the game, guys like Herndon and Berrios should be able to exploit the middle.

This. We need to exploit the matchups in the middle of the field with our athletes against their linebackers. Rosier and Richt need to exercise patience and take what is in front of them.

It'll be interesting to see if they play the CB's up on our guys or lay off. If they lay off we can bubble them to death until they change and then start taking shots. CMR always has a way to attack how they play us.

#12 running the way he did vs Tech will help a ton. They might have to try and spy him some.

This we will bubble them to death until they man up and play real defense tgey key is to get 6 in the red zone

Did we play anyone like that yet? Duke?

Syracuse also played off us a lot. We still hit em deep a couple times.

I think the deep balls will still be there. Just need route combos that take up the safety and leave #82 and #4 matched up with a DB.

I am all for taking what they are willing to give us but we will definitely take some shots down the field with the athletes that we have. Have to keep them honest.

Wake’s QB beat them on a lot of QB draws. Running Rosier will really open up the game for Homer and dj.

Considering Mike Elko was Wake's DC for the past three years, it was shocking to see Wake put up **** near 600 yds on Notre Lame's wefense.

If we use the 3 men to one side bubble screen, sooner or later the outside we has to fake the block and take off deep . If they use a linebacker to cover inside receiver, this is ckeck.off for Rosier to fake to Homer and run the ball, very easy. If they use a safety for inside receiver than Rosier has to look off the one safety and go deep.

ND has been deadly in the Red Zone this season and we haven't. I believe they will play it, "bend, but don't break." Drop 7 or 8 into coverage, spy Rosier and force him to make good decisions. Tighten up the screws in RZ and letting us kick FGs is a win for them.

They have also busted big runs on teams leaving themselves vulnerable in single high looks where someone blows an assignment up front. That feeds even more into their philosophy on defense if we give their offense a freeby on a mental mistake.

For us, it's simple. If we have anything left up our sleeve to score in the RZ, now is the time. We need to get TDs early and bust that game plan.

I can't disagree with that sentiment. There was just something about the conviction of his decisions, if that makes any sense, that makes me believe Rosier might have been instructed to run less earlier in the year.

Either way it was the difference and kept the VT defense on their heels. I want to also add that we were tough this game from start to finish. We finished a lot of our runs as opposed to getting finished off by the D.

ND fans love pointing to the WF game. I watched the extended highlights of the game and WF defense looks SLOW. Huge gaps in their defense, not very aggressive at all and got gashed. They really lack speed on that team.

I was watching that last night, and saw the same thing. I kept thinking, 'these (WF) guys are slow, their corners and safeties are really slow'.

I think these guys haven't seen the quickness and speed they're going to be introduced to come Saturday.

The trick is to take advantage of it.

We need to win TOP. Run the ball to set up the pass it's no secret every single game every single year.

We've only won TOP once this year and that was the Syracuse game in which we won TOP 30:41-29:19. Ball control and long, methodical drives are not our thing. Even when we are running the ball, we're looking to gash out big chunks rather than just pound the D-line.

I get ya. but sometimes I watch bama and I know it can be a boring offense but that's the kind of running game we need to truly become elite. Or we need a j Winston type of player.

They absolutely unloaded on Homer on a couple of Rosier's fakes. Rosier kept and gained pretty big yards on those reads where they smashed Homer behind the LOS.

Two totally different schemes. VT scheme plays into our strengths IMO because we have the athletes who can win one on one and make big plays. Will be interesting to see if we can sustain drives against ND.

We must sustain drives to win IMO. Keep the defense off the field and fresh.

We will need to sustain drives against ND since their defense is predicated on letting us beat ourselves. It's radically different from the aggressive scheme Foster just showed us, and I'm curious to see how Rosier responds to the challenge. I think that the run game---both from Homer and Rosier---will be critical since the explosive passes we're accustomed to leaning on may get taken away by their safeties playing back in coverage, but ND's D is not nearly as good as Virginia Tech's, so we should be able to put up some points at home as long as we counter their scheme properly.
