LSU UPDATE at 5 p.m. CT on Sunday: Entering the day, the expectation was that LSU head coach
Brian Kelly was going to make significant staff changes on the offensive side of the ball after Saturday night’s embarrassing loss in Death Valley to
Texas A&M. But by noon CT, it appeared those plans were no longer on track with Kelly leaving the facility shortly after.
Conversations with LSU administrators, Louisiana Gov.
Jeff Landry and Kelly’s camp are ongoing as of Sunday night. Players were given Sunday and Monday off due to the bye week ahead of Alabama; no players’ meeting has been added to the schedule. Sources told On3 that position coaches who chose to go into the facility today were sent home. As one source described it, the facility is a “ghost town.” Kelly’s status has been described as “in limbo” and “in flux.”
At this point, it is unclear if Kelly is willing to negotiate a buyout. He’s currently set to be paid out north of $53 million with six years remaining on his contract. Another complication in this situation is that LSU is without a sitting president. Sources have said the hope is to make the hire by late November.
