Kellen Wiley Jr, LB Progress

he's our best lb....wiley
From what I saw from our game the other day, you can’t argue this. I’m a little disappointed that @DMoney never talked about how he was progressing as a linebacker in the Podcasts. Because what I saw out there last night was linebacker play. All you ever heard in the podcast was well he’s rushing the passer really good.. that’s great all but that’s not linebacker play and he was playing linebacker out there The other night looked good.

He had good things to say about Wiley all camp. In his defense, it’s tough to judge LB in practice when there is limited contact. You really only see what they are made of in a real game

I dont think this is true at all, his name started coming up constantly as camp went on, certain positions D speak up more on but he did say with LB its more have to see when the lights are on in real game scenarios.. But his name did start getting mentioned more..

And D knows I am quick to call him out on stuff but I dont think this is one fr. lol

I agree, he did have good things to say about him in camp, but all those things were based on him rushing the passer. So I was left thinking well, I guess the kid can’t play linebacker because all they talk about is him rushing the passer. So I’m pleasantly surprised at the linebacker play He put out the other night. that’s the kind of play We’re gonna need this season.

I agree, his name did come up, but it was always in reference to how well he is rushing the passer. I never heard once on the podcast how well he was playing the position of linebacker. So again, I was pleasantly surprised at how well he played the position the other night and we are going to need him this year with his size and athleticism he has out there. He is something in that room that we do not have anywhere else, so let’s hope he keeps progressing.

I just started rewatching the game and idk what happened but Marcellin was first backup LB in game but only played 8 snaps based off snap count thread? Then Pruitt came in after, hopefully they increase Wiley role as he seemed to earn it

Starting the rewatch now and we should probably do a separate thread. There is absolutely no covering us when we plug Barkate inside as a #2 WR in 2 by 2 and Mali in motion. You have at least one man situation against a Safety each time, even if the team rolls out quarters, they have a Safety typically picking up Barkate’s route running with both sides of the hash available to him. This is the position I played. I covered inside WRs depending on our zone rules. There are certain WR profiles you can’t do much about if the QB is accurate.

DMoney repeatedly deferred on the linebackers because he didnt know how to evaluate that at this juncture.

I consider that better than sunshine pumping personally.

I mean yeah maybe he could get an ex linebacker to weigh in on them on the show in the future.
