First let me say whats up to everybody on here, Ive been lurking on this website so im familiar with the "flow" on here.... FIRE GOLDEN/BBB, im with it.

Now I wanted to make this thread bc I wanted to point out some things about Kaaya as a QB. Bringing up Jacory and Shannon i recall a lot of fans really hating Jacory Harris because they felt he was the on the field version of Randy Shannon. Everyone was ready for Shannon to go and Jacory as well.

Honestly I'm starting to think Brad Kaaya is the on the field version of Al Golden, which is during "irrelevant" parts of the game, the coach looks good, QB looks great. But at important moments on the field (3rd down, crunch time, trailing, 4th quarter) Golden is scared to death and Kaaya always seems like a deer caught in head lights.

Lets think about this before I get the "QB is the last of our problems" responses... we lost to a Cincinnati team w/ a 2nd string Freshman QB that lost to Memphis??? Let me backtrack for a second, Jacory Harris came in was a confident gun slinger who was use to winning. The program broke him... He had the tools coming in but the program's failures w/ the fan expectations and his own just broke him down, we would see him on the sidelines with his head down to himself. Very tough to watch. BEFORE that though what did Jacory do??... 18 yrs old fresh out of High school comes in beats Virginia in the CLUTCH, 1st with the CLUTCH TD to get the game to OT then the clutch TD pass to win the game in OT. Next year as a Sophomore, team full of underclassmen like him, goes into Tallahassee and beats FSU as the underdog.

Now back to Brad Kaaya, I have yet to see any of that JUICE IN him... Virginia wasnt a world beater when Jacory pulled out the win but thats my point. When is Kaaya going to pull out a win for the team, when everyone can see the game is slipping away?? CINCINNATI was the team we lost to last week we had more talent than them by far. When Jacory beat FSU as a sophomore Randy Shannon was still the coRch, so its safe to say that not only did we beat a team with "more" on the field talent that year, but also did it with a disadvantage at the coaching position.

Jacory beat Virginia as an 18yr old we were suppose to lose that game, we were suppose to lose to FSU the next year with Jacory, but we won.... we were suppose to lose to Ohio St (2011) and Oklahoma (2009) but we won with Jacory regardless if those teams were "that good" or not. I guarantee those teams were better than Cincinnati. So when will it ever get to a point where coaching aside, on the filed fxxk ups aside, the QB Brad Kaaya takes over and makes the team WIN regardless??? thats what i'm waiting on with him, and I havent seen anything close to that yet, which is why Kaaya is my 2nd biggest concern right after of course Al Golden.

OP does not fit in here. He was lucid, and almost had perfect spelling.

There's little to nothing I'd disagree with that you posted.

It's an old sports adage and perhaps it fits in this case. Players often take on the personality of their coach. I don't know what to make of BK, but he's got potential. That's all I can say with certainty at this point and he hasn't shown a killer instinct.

Really hard to judge Kaaya's (or most of our player's) true ability when he is being held back to this degree

Too well thought out and written. That make you suspect. However, I agree that J12 got crushed by bad coaching and fan hatred. I think Brad has the goods but is also getting worse the more he is coached up. Both these QBs deserved better coaching and with it could well have taken us to the promise land. J12 had soft throw that was easy to catch(unfortunately to the defense also) but not a "great arm". Most of our NC qbs did not have a great arm either. They did have better coaching and much better defenses to back them up. Strangely I think Randy might have saved his job with Brad as QB. Kid has that calm about him that reminds me of Randy. J12 did very well in his one year under Golden and both might have been better off together. However, both QBs were better than their coaching and got worse each with it.

Of course but there are things that Kaaya does on field that i dont believe is directly impacted by coaching, like how he checks down to his rbs too quickly, i think he needs to be a little more patient in the pocket and give his receivers an extra second to get open.

I think it is fair to judge Kaaya after so many games. I know the play call didn't help him. But he has ZERO mobility and his throw is inconsistent. We don't necessary need a dual-threat QB, but we do need a QB who can still make plays when pressure comes.

Coley Coley Coley is the answer...Kaaya spent the last three quarters of the Cincy game running for his life because of what Coley was sending in...

my only gripe with kaaya this year is that he's throwing behind the targets a bit too much.

I am high on kaaya overall. love that he's not looking sideline every call....

still, I hope we lose the next 4 in a row so he can salvage his career here under a real staff.

At this point Kaaya seems to be about where Kyle Wright was, if not a little further along. Tons of talent/potential whatever, but not comfortable and not seeing things as quickly as he could. KW was always late with throws. I'm hoping we can get a decent qb coach to prevent the kw2m repeat. repeat.

J12 improved hugely in just one season under Fisch. Imagine how good KW or J12 could've been or now how good Kaaya could be with a quality coach in his ear.

So much talent undeveloped.

Agree and another thing about kaaya is he is changing plays too much, and that would be great if it helped but the plays he changes the call to have only added to our horrible 3rd down conversions rate and some have been straight up questionable.... I recall in the Cincy game it looked like he changed the play on a 3rd and about 5 or 6 but it was a run play that got stopped at the los. I remember when he said that he was worried about throwing an interception against FAU... when I think about that comment it seems as if he really does lose his cool under pressure. And we're talking about FAU and Cincy.

Leadership would do alot to help that. There's not much coolness coming from the sideline.

I agree with certain areas in the OP but I feel you are giving Harris too much credit for home victories against name programs Oklahoma and Ohio St who were both very mediocre those years. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Harris dreadful in that Ohio St. game? Kaaya getting a home victory against what will be a mediocre Nebraska team probably, while he threw for nearly 400yds, is on the same level. Last year Kaaya threw a huge TD pass with 7mins left to ice Duke. I get we are starving for greatness but just like you claimed in the OP that the fans started coming down hard on Harris, lets not start doing it to Kaaya. Are we going to nitpick about Kaaya checking the ball down too quickly? Tom Brady has made a living on checking the ball down. Harris would just chuck it up into double coverage before he would ever check it down. Check down are easy money but I also feel Brad has done a good job of attacking all areas of the field. I believe its too early comparing Kaaya/Harris but by all means, swing away with Golden/Shannon failures.

OP, first off, what's poppin' dog, welcome to the board. Second, great write up....I recall, even before the Cincy game, when Nebraska was steam rolling back, Kaaya folded. He also did the same last year against FSU. He's literally taking on the personality of Golden, and this kid has the tools to be one of, if not the best QB to come through UM in the last 35 yrs (no disrepect to Ken, Bernie, Vinny, or Gino). He has the size, the arm strength and accuracy...WHEN things are going great. He regress when the pressure is on, just like his coach. Excellent points.
