People really don't see how crucial the illegal formation penalty was after the kickoff fumble. We had a first down inside the red zone and instead got pushed back cause of the penalty and had to settle for 3. Could have easily been 20-0
- Again, I don't want to belabor what has probably been said before, so I'll go with this: the most enduring memory I'll have of this game actually after it was done. I was near the team buses waiting for a few people and I happen to see Denzel Perryman go towards his mother( I assume) and another female, he was greeted by them and you could clearly see he had tears running down his face. He literally collapsed in their arms and honestly, it seemed like they were carrying him forward as they headed towards their car on the way home. Perryman was spent and he had nothing left but his emotion. You couldn't help but feel for this guy. This was his last crack against the arch-rival and they came up excruciatingly close.
Perryman has been a solid Hurricane since day one, and in what has been a forgettable era of UM football, guys like he and Duke have held things down heroically and will go on to have very good pro careers. It's unfortunate that they didn't have a better fate during their time at Coral Gables.
As I saw Perryman walk off, I thought to myself,"This f'n staff owes it to guys like Denzel to be better. They ought to see this."Now, I admit, looking back, that's a bit unfair. Admittedly, I was pretty upset myself and I know the staff understands that games like this will determine their livelyhoods. Again, I'm hurt, but not nearly as much as Denzel was. I saw a lot of players afterwords as they came out, none were as crestfallen as he was.
That's a true 'Cane right there.
The #1 player I hope stays is Flowers. To me all others are replaceable.- This was pointed out to me by a fellow Canes fan( who hates Golden, by the way) that next year we go into the season without Phillip Dorsett, Clive Walford( who is no worse than the second best TE in college football, IMO) Jon Feliciano, Denzel, Thurston Armbrister Anthony Chickillo, and of course Duke Johnson. For all this talk of Miami being young, they actually lose a load of talent, too. And speaking of which, can you really say this should be a four loss team ten games into the season? But I digress, has Miami recruited well enough the last two seasons to replenish the two-deep? I really hope Pentagon Cane is prophetic in his forecast of our 2015 squad.
I've touched on this in the past. I know we lose experience, but take a look at the raw talent of the guys who will replace the "outstanding group of young men" you mentioned.
Can't replace Duke. Can't replace Denzel.
Phillip Dorsett...Stacy Coley
Clive Walford...Standish Dobard
Thurston Armbrister...Darrion Owens
Anthony Chickillo...Chad Thomas
And though we can't replace Denzel, Jermaine Grace could VERY well have a similar impact on the defense. That dude is a stud. Phenomenal instincts and tough as ****.
You also get back AQM and Rayshawn Jenkins to improve the safety depth.
And oh yeah...he ain't played a down yet, but I'm bullish on the kid nonetheless...

I'm about to say something that is going to probably **** some peeps of because it's going to seem like I'm dogging one of our best players, or I didn't think he played a good game, but I'm going to post it anyway. I saw something Sat night from Denzel (and a couple more guys to) that really made me question how bad they really wanted this game. I know they really wanted to win and they definitely played hard but the mentality of this team (and it has a lot to do w/ the man in charge) isn't that "I gave you more than I had and there's nothing left to give mentality at all".
So when the defense came out for FSU's fourth series of the game I noticed DP wasn't out there, so I immediately start panicking and thinking omg DP hurt but then I notice he's on the sideline and nothing appears to be wrong hmmm. So first down Jamies overshoots his WR, second Kirby who slide over to Perryman spot since DP was on the sideline nearly makes huge play, cool but we really needed the int. Then on 3rd down we sub in a nickel packgage which includes DP who replaces Kirby. Unfortunately Jamies hits Bobo in the open area in the zone on a crossing route, because why would we play man under again and blitz Grace up the A gap. it's not like it worked the first three 3rd down possessions or anything smh but I digress. FSU gets a new set of down and the strangest thing happens Kirby comes back in to replace DP again and DP along with a couple other starters exit the game again?? Two plays later FSU lines up in trips to the wide side and runs that **** inside read to Dalvin and Kirby (whose playing in DP spot) fills and misses the tackle and Cook is off to the races to give FSU new life and my only comment to my buddies was why is DP not in the game.
This wasn't a playing the results reaction either and thinking what if. What if DP was in the game would he have caught the int, would he have tackled Cook, etc. This was about the biggest game in these guys career and w/ a two score lead and a chance to really put our foot on FSU throat we're subbing in a lot of backups and our best defensive player is one of them. What was the point off that? I know he wasn't tired he literally only played 9 freaking snaps the entire first qtr. That's right NINE. Even worse it had been over twenty real time minutes from the end of FSU's third possession and the start of their fourth possession. You didn't need to steal reps for him at that point to help keep him (or the others) fresh they just had a 20+ minute break. While I understand it was the coaches decision to sub those guys and it adds to my whole argument of stupid personnel decisions on both sides of the ball, but DP needs to let the coaches know he's not coming out especially at that point because should have been well rested, fired up, and itching to get back out there and get his own hit stick play after what Deon did to Bobo on the kickoff. Instead he was standing on the sidelines as FSU marched down the field in a two possession game and scored in just over a minutes time smh.
There should have been a collaborative decision by the coaches and players during that bye week that certain guys better get their cardio up because they aren't going be coming out the game and DP should have been at the top of that list. I remember sitting in the hot *** sun in 2000 watching Dan Morgan give everything he had to the point that dude had to get four IV's during halftime just so he could play in the second half. That was the difference between a player playing hard (and make no mistake about it Denzel played hard) and a player who is "putting his hart in that ****. Where is that type of dedication. I keep waiting year after year for that type of dedication throughout the program, especially our leaders, and it never comes. Obviously the HC's fake hunger and drive has infected the team, but it's not like a player can't fight through that weak mentality because we saw it on Sat night from Flowers. That boy put his "hart in that ****". Three weeks removed from knee surgery and going up against arguably FSU's best defensive player he didn't come out the game once and dominated MEJ. If anyone had questions about his pro potential he silenced that **** real quick and proved he's going to be the anchor for someones OL for a long time.
We needed more than just players to play hard in this game we needed guess to really give us more than what they had to give. Like Dan or JJ in 2000 where they needed IV's pumped in them (and gladly took them) in order to get back out there and beat FSU. When are the coaches going to finally understand the magnitude of a game or be able to read the pulse of a game and ride the **** out of their best players, instead of giving dudes breaks when they don't even need them. *** this next man up, next game is the only game that matters BS. You think Butch didn't understand how important UCLA was in 98 when he kept telling Coker run him again, run him again or how important FSU 2000 was when he was going crazy on the training staff telling them how he needed his guys back in the game. Even more important the players understood the magnitude that's why Edge went from thinking he was going to be splitting carries like they usually do to carrying the rock 40 times or having Dan and JJ in the locker room getting IV's pumped into them and their yelling at each other to hurry up and get back in the game because the team needed them. I'm sorry but there was only one player that night who put his "hart in that **** imo" and until that number gets bigger than that we are going to stay a mediocre team. Like I said before I love me some DP, happy he's a hurricane and appreciate all his done while in a Miami uniform, but as hard as he played. He didn't want it Like Morgan wanted it, or like Ed wanted it in 01. You can disagree all you want but the proof is in the pudding. You can't want it when you're ok with watching someone else do (or fail to do) the job for you.
I don't know what you want Denzel to do?
Its pretty clear its a sub package considering we do it every game. He sits out the 3rd or 4th series of every game.
I hate it too but I'm not sure why its the players fault. I'm sure he wants to be in on every series, has probably told the coaches that, ultimately they are in charge.

This one literally made me sick. I got home front the game and puked, and it wasn't the booze. I'm not much of a drinker. This loss had an actual physical effect on me. ****ed up.
