Herman comes with a better D.C. and his offense is top notch (not to mention recruiting skills) so he's my top pick but Fuente is an excellent coach so we'd be in great shape. They didn't just luck into a victory vs Ole Miss, they controlled the game with much less talent.
If not mistaken, he took it to Ole Miss last yr too, b4 ultimately losing to them.
I don't know if losing 24-3 and being out gained 426-104 could be described as taking it to them.
I have zero confidence in our BOT to make a smart decision like this.

I'm bracing for the inevitable Mario hire. ****, we have fans on Facebook clamoring for it. Our dopey adminsitration will probably consider it a coup.I have zero confidence in our BOT to make a smart decision like this.
100% agree.
UM doesn't like hiring edgy coaches who have a 'need' to win. They hire safe coaches who are happy to have the job. I'm not convinced our BOT cares about winning enough. Atleast winning more than the coastal
I would be more interested in Matt Campbell. He forced a run oriented team like Arkansas to pass the ball all night on its home field. That type of low scoring road upset is more meaningful, IMO, than taking advantage of non-conference frenzy at home to upset a gimmick team like Mississippi.
Mississippi upset Alabama using nothing but gadget plays and good fortune, like fumbled kick returns. They got a ridiculous touchdown on a broken play that should have been a turnover. It was impossible to watch that game without sensing how much of a fluke it was. When Mississippi's gadget finesse isn't working, they are vulnerable to being trampled by TCU in the bowl game or at Florida a few weeks ago. Those games reached 5 touchdown deficits if not slightly higher. They have been within Mississippi's most recent 8 games. Coaches like Patterson and McElwain are a cut above Freeze. It's hardly shocking that the vulnerable gadget coach failed on the road against an up and coming confident team like Memphis.
Campbell can blend spread offense with traditional power concepts. I loved it when I read recently that he recruits with a specific set of requirements in mind for every position, the physical makeup and mental makeup. He identifies the guys who fit both criteria and recruits them, instead of relying on conventional wisdom ratings. We need a special guy as coach. So do the Dolphins. Rah rah only takes you so far. It's been particularly sickening that both the Canes and Dolphins recently have so many guys who don't fit the perfect frame or traits for the position.
We don't like MAC coaches. I anticipate that bar stool argument. Based on a sample of one. We didn't like Teddy Bridgewater because he was a Northwestern quarterback, also based on a sample of one.

Yes, above Fuente. I like Fuente but I'm not convinced he isn't a cupcake offensive type. Those guys get swamped when asked to run the table or close to it. I would cringe, for example, to have a Sumlin type as head coach. Not physical enough. When Texas A&M upset Alabama a few years ago with Manziel it was somewhat similar to Mississippi defeating Alabama this season. The run of play favored Alabama but Manziel created one big play after another. Now that Sumlin can't rely on that stuff to bail him out, Alabama dominates the line of scrimmage and wins handily every time they play.
It's funny how some of you are so adamant and defensive about hiring another "up and comer" instead of demanding that we hire a proven entity. Sure, you might try to make the argument that you're selecting based on the budgetary restraints of the school but believing that is more flawed than wanting to roll the dice yet again on a freakin' unknown. I'm not even debating that Fuente won't be a big time excellent coach. I'm debating whether we even should take that risk again on an unproven entity- and yes, I'm no longer counting non-Power 5 success as proving anything in relation to the resumes we SHOULD be looking at.

No argument, but proven entities aren't usually available, and if they are, UM usually can't get them.
