What happened to the staff looking at changing the body types in the room?
LB recruiting has been head scratching for a long time… been awhile since Shaq and Pink showed up and locked in the positions for 3 years and before that it was Perryman. And before him what Spence? Lol that’s 4 decent LBs in a decade plus… woof this use to be LBU

I think upgrading the 1) Intelligence and 2) athleticism are by far the most important thing for the LB room. We have a straight dumb group of LBs. And our best athletes are either injured (Bobby) or not quite ready most likely (Wiley due to frosh, Pruitt due to weight). Out of guys we've recruited out of HS still on roster, We have what 2 undersized guys in Marcelin (height) and Pruitt (weight)? Wiley, Hayes, Popo, Bobby, are all built more than fine. Wes is probably slightly on the smaller side. And out of all them Marcelin is really the only really questionable body type really.

Recruits we're after:
Jordan Campbell - 6'2" 200lbs
JJ Edwards - 6'1" 195lbs
Kosi Opkala - 6'1.5" 215lbs
DQ Forkpa - 6'2" 220lbs
Tamarion Watkins - 6'4" 201lbs

If they are Smart and athletic, I don't think any of these guys' size is a problem really. You'd think Edwards and Campbell can get to 220 in a year or two. Forkpa and Watkins should be able to get to 230+ for sure....

I get the actual point you're making, but Uh you want to talk about unimpressive body types you just listed 3 of them lol.
Shaq was 6'0" 230lbs
Perryman was 5'11" 220lbs
Pinkney was 6'1" 215lbs ... and definitely not fit lol.

That's like Marcelin build lol.
The reality is the body types isn't actually the main problem about LB play if we're being honest. It isn't even totally about athleticism. Most of the LBs we have are good enough athletically to be productive LB starters here....

Man what I would give to have another Perryman on this team.

Body types definitely matter when your trying to win championships. You can play the ACC with 215 lbs LB's, but not playoff ball, against the Bama's and UGA's. We already know Heatherman is looking for the C. Smith's(with knees that can play everyday) and the Wiley's. He wants big fast LB's with length who he can move around and blitz the QB. Why are we recruiting the Garrett's and Edwards? Those guys are nickels in this D. Where are the LB recruits? Where are the Mike's? I am confused with our LB recruiting.

@DMoney in the 6/19 Bank

I expect Miami to flip LB JJ Edwards (Orlando). He tested off the charts at the UA Camp (4.57 forty) and had a great spring. He needs to gain some weight, but should be 200+ on arrival at 6’1.
