Just Winning is Not Enough

I listen to 4 or 5 national college football daily radio shows on satellite, and they’ve all mentioned that we destroyed FIU and just gave up a couple garbage scores against our backups.

That's actually a relief. Hopefully the rest of the national perception understands that as well.

The ACC is garbage this year.

All we need is a real QB to blow out every team left on the schedule. Even with Malik this team is good enough to beat everyone left.

And everyone that matters already knows that the FIU games was practice. Richt rested the starters with a short week and everyone knows it.

Really…nothing matters but winning.

This is not the year where point spreads come into play (though, I will add Miami does not get a pass for squeaking by this year.) But it still does not matter.

Win out and beat Clemson and we are in…Lose to Clemson and it will not matter how many beatings we put on the garbage ACC. A 2 Loss team from the ACC is not getting in this year.

Not for the voters who just have time to look at scores.. Looks like we only put up 31 points and couldnt blow them out. Perception is reality

... yet Miami moved up six spots in last week's poll; more than any other team in the Top 25.

More concerned with necessary back-ups getting their much needed playing time that padding stats and running up the score with first stringers.

Look at the dropoff when Bandy went out against LSU. Look at the dropoff when Johnson was out the second half at Toledo.

The Canes' second- and third-stringers need significant playing time as ACC play gets underway. Who give two ***** about the "perception" of a 31-17 game against FIU, where Richt called off the dogs and let back-ups play.

A good QB cures a lot of ills, my friend.

We almost made the playoffs last year, with crap QB play. If Perry plays well, we will be a better team in December this year than we were last year. That's a big step forward.
I know that the clown show CIS has anointed Perry after one good outing against a horrific team. I love his potential but need to see a whole lot more.

Right now, we’re a good team with a lot of question marks at important spots. I’d love to win the Coastal again and go from there.

I had this discussion after the FIU game. Right now, Miami is on the waaay outside looking in at any possible playoff scenario. Still it's not unthinkable that if they should manage to win the conference, they'll be in the discussion. Now do you think the playoff committee is going to look at that FIU game and say, "oh Miami was blowing them out but they pulled all the starters and allowed FIU to get back into the game"? Of course not. They're going to say "Miami won the conference but that nail biter against FIU is a black mark on their record." The committee, the AP voters and especially the coaches don't actually watch every game. They watch the headline games and rely on a box score for all the non marquee games.

We've had two opportunities to empty our bench and play every single third and fourth string player on the roster. It's conference season now so, let's leave those guys on the bench where they should be.

I was a featured columnist for BleacherReport for a few seasons and voted in their writers' Top 25 poll weekly. Guarantee you I didn't watch every game when it was time to vote—nor did anyone else that was a voter. Same goes for the AP.

P.S. we didn’t almost make the playoffs. We didn’t even come close. Clemson showed us how far off we were.

The living legend speaking the truth, as always.

We aren’t a playoff team. Beating these bad teams doesn’t erase the taint of that LSU loss. Let’s win the coastal, that’s a realistic goal. Even that has been difficult for us for many years.

If we could win 1 zip, I'll take it...football is a strange game...the LSU game score looked much worse then how our team played...it was weird how big plays did us in so quick and with Rosier we had no chance of coming back against a very good defense. But just like the FIU score, the LSU score was not indicative of our ability.

Exactly and ever since that game the national narrative has been "LSU destroyed Miami".

You guys need to quit dreaming that this is a playoff team. We played one good team (not close to a great team), and got greased.

Try to be realistic this year, and it won’t hurt so much when reality happens.

What you’re saying is extremely realistic.

But human nature being what it is, I like to fool myself into thinking we have a shot at the CFP if we win out. This is what the emotional part of my mind likes to think.

My analytical mind says based on our talent, roster, and depth and youth at key positions, we are not quite there yet.

So I agree with what you’re saying, yet hope otherwise.

We ain't makin the playoffs. We ain't beating Clemson this year. It's just the truth.

Sorry to burst the bubble but you guys gotta learn how to keep things in perspective. We don't have a playoff caliber OL first and foremost let alone some of the other holes we have.

Last season even though the Canes barely escaped with the W at UNC that was probably the ugliest win of the season that felt like a loss and I don't want to hear the short week excuse when all the U starters were resting most of the 4th qtr against freaking FIU and its a home game anything less than a dominating blow out win it will be looked around the nation like well that's the same old Miami team that struggles against mediocre/bad ACC competition so they aren't really their yet.

I don't care if this team cant beat Clemson I want to see them play their hearts out all season and get another shot in the ACCCG at Clemson.

I want to win another ring.

Everything else is just participation trophy stuff.
I totally agree about its all about winning the trophy but don't you want for this year Canes team to atleast make it to the ACCCG or not make it at all cause they don't have the pieces yet ?

When did I say I don't "want" anything?

I was just keepin it real.

getting back to charlotte will be the best 2 year run in the last decade
Last season Clemson clown stomped Miami in the ACCCG if they can make it back and give Clemson a better game I believe that could help recruiting and well wont hurt to go to another major bowl game which hopefully we can win this time and making that will keep the football team up their in the pre season rankings because hate to tell you all this but the ACCCG matters in the eyes of the nation probably not to us Canes fans much but it matters to the rest of college football.
