Agreed. For someone to say that we couldn't even cover the spread against FIU is ridiculous. We chose not to because the coaches prioritized getting significant playing time for the freshmen and 2-4th string players, and to prevent injury given we had a short week before the next game. That game could have been 50-0 if that was what the coaches wanted. We literally turned the FIU game into a scrimmage.
If that's not destruction, I don't know what is.
If we beat Clemson in the ACCCG while going undefeated the rest of the way to get there, no voter will be looking at the FIU score. Maybe if Clemson crashed and burned during the season and BC won the Atlantic and we beat them, voters would give our other scores a second look. But if we beat Clemson, those scores don't matter, just whether we won.I had this discussion after the FIU game. Right now, Miami is on the waaay outside looking in at any possible playoff scenario. Still it's not unthinkable that if they should manage to win the conference, they'll be in the discussion. Now do you think the playoff committee is going to look at that FIU game and say, "oh Miami was blowing them out but they pulled all the starters and allowed FIU to get back into the game"? Of course not. They're going to say "Miami won the conference but that nail biter against FIU is a black mark on their record." The committee, the AP voters and especially the coaches don't actually watch every game. They watch the headline games and rely on a box score for all the non marquee games.
We've had two opportunities to empty our bench and play every single third and fourth string player on the roster. It's conference season now so, let's leave those guys on the bench where they should be.

I don't think Miami is good enough to destroy any ACC team by 40. We can't even cover the spread vs. FIU. UNC always gives us a good game even when they suck. I think this will be a solid victory for us but we aren't crushing them. Let's continue building this momentum, play a good game, stay healthy and get ready for FSU.
Not for the voters who just have time to look at scores.. Looks like we only put up 31 points and couldnt blow them out. Perception is reality
I actually read a write up about Miami vs UNC where the guy called it a pedestrian effort vs FIU, so I agree.
According to this board, how you play doesn't matter, just the W or the L.

If undefeated, scores wouldn't matter. We have a loss and need to impress, because there will be more 1 loss teams than undefeated teams, and we need to do something that elevates us over them. Close calls to bad teams won't do that.If we beat Clemson in the ACCCG while going undefeated the rest of the way to get there, no voter will be looking at the FIU score. I listen to 4 or 5 national college football daily radio shows on satellite, and they’ve all mentioned that we destroyed FIU and just gave up a couple garbage scores against our backups.I had this discussion after the FIU game. We are talking about people that vote our ranking. They are clueless. You don’t get that?Sorry, but anyone that thinks we did anything but trample FIU is clueless, they had 58 yards of offense through 3.5 quarters.
A good QB cures a lot of ills, my friend. You guys need to quit dreaming that this is a playoff team. We played one good team (not close to a great team), and got greased.
Try to be realistic this year, and it won’t hurt so much when reality happens.
Knowledgeable college football folk know what we did to FIU. However, I am not convinced many of the voters are knowledgeable.I listen to 4 or 5 national college football daily radio shows on satellite, and they’ve all mentioned that we destroyed FIU and just gave up a couple garbage scores against our backups.
