Is our defensive backfield taking medication that makes them soft, half assed tacklers and unable to look at where the ball is being thrown?

Outside of Corn Elder, the rest of these guys look disinterested and completely lost when the ball is in the air.

Tracy Howard is simply lazy.

Fire Williams?

Secondary was supposed to be one of the strengths this year. Looks like the secondary has become secondary!! Howard has regressed, unfortunately.

Some people say it ain't the coaching it's the players... bulls it that's coaching all day every day.

they have been taught to be soft. thats how we play. we got 2 safeties 30 yards deep on 3rd and short. none of it makes any sense

These DBs need to be let loose! All the talent IMO being wasted. I would bet they have some lack on interest with the way they are coached to play. Line these guys up in bump coverage and let them play!

Our guys aren't used to playing the ball. I am shocked when I see them even try to defend a pass. They are taught to play the man and keep everything in front of them.

that's the most troubling thing. none of our guys do bump and run. you have physical specimens at cb in burns and gunter and they don't even jam their guys. horrible.

We've seen the LB's and DB's turn their backs to the LOS far too often to find their landmarks. It's a coaching deal, no doubt. The safeties and corners aren't making ball hawking plays because they're always recovering after hitting their zone landmarks. The DB's are occupied by their zone responsibilities and a wr/te or qb draw.

Golden parrots, setting the edge and spilling plays...sounds good, works sometimes...But, when the ball is snapped and you've got DE's LB's and Cb's turning and running away from the los, while rushing three or bringing the ole exotic safety blitz on a three man rush, they're gashed or giving up 9yrs on a 3rd and 4 play.

They're teaching loss prevention and allowing themselves to get nickelled and dimed to death.

Teams have had 8? 10+ play drives vs this defense. Doesn't seem so bad yeah? Miami's offense has had 1 this entire yr. So, with such a horrible ball control offense, defensive issues are amplified.

Gunter is not a physical specimen. He is just a tall corner. Not exceptionally strong or a great athlete.

no he's pretty solid and very physical. probably the most physical corner we have. but good observations of his height on your part

No he really isn't solid... He's decent man... Against any adequate wideout he gets abused.... He is tall but we tend to overate his abilities... He's a decent corner but some are still living b off his 2012 fsu performance which was decent...

The thing is we recruit a lot of athletes and miss out on the pure football players, if we had Butch he would be able to identify who's who and who's what. True story

I think the problem is more complicated than they are lazy or bad coaching. I think they are struggling with adjustments. Most of our DBs have been drilled in primarily playing Zone since they got here, and now we have started playing a lot more man. I think the problem is a combination of not being effectively taught good skills in man coverage, not being used to it as much not having played much of it in years, and some guys just not being very good at it period. I think some guys like TH are probably better in zone coverage, where they excel at reading the QB and picking off a pass or jumping a route. In man they are always late in looking for the ball and seem clueless on what to do when the ball is in the air.

I think its a combination of things causing problems among the DBs.

all of our corners our "decent" in this defense and all get abused by pretty mediocre wr talent. i don't judge everything on production when it comes to our team...i judge measurables and potential with a better coaching staff. which is why i was always high on henderson

Henderson always produced when he played, Gunter no so much... Aside from a few plays what has he done? Its easy to say you judge measurables but outside of his size what potential do you see? He was never physical even coming from his juco...

once again, what cb has been great in this defense? and i see plenty of potential. he's built like a safety and has good enough speed to play cb. and i was just using henderson as an example of someone who didn't live up to their potential. basically questioning our coaches development of players...sooo don't always judge our guys by their stats and on field skillset because they may very well end up being a probowler in the nfl. the whole point of my first post was, why don't our guys bump and run when some of them are clearly built for that. but you can keep debating on whether or not gunter meets your standards for physical corners.

Bingo they are coached to play the man and react when receiver reacts. We never turn to play the ball.
