Just ran into a friend who is an NFL scout

Rep. And I laugh in the face of anyone who claims Corn Elder does not play fast.

Weird how a lot of people always run into or over hear NFL scouts on this board

I share your skepticism. This may be legitimate. Often it is not. And the trend is hardly restricted to sports forums. I've seen it on true crime sites and political sites and elsewhere. The person wants to give his own opinion a boost of legitimacy so he paints and shines it via sourcing from an anonymous authority. The vehicle seldom varies. It's always a friend who he happened to run into and suddenly this guy shares virtually every specialized knowledge and opinion, word for word. Quite remarkable.

When it is legitimate normally there are more direct quotes instead of summaries, and more of the quotes will include angles and ideas that are atypical, since an outsider won't be seeing everything from the same perspective that we do. Wow type of stuff. Didn't think of that. Plus the specialist generally won't be familiar with everybody and everything, since his duties include dozens of other schools, etc. He will be confident enough to concede he's not an authority on everybody.

This is a low post OP. I apologize if it's legit. I have no opinion either way. But I've caught several posters attempting this elsewhere. Handicapper's instincts. One guy ran away and never posted again.

I thought the dude said he doesn't look fast.

Not sure what the point of him saying he doesn't look fast if he in fact believed he plays fast, but in any case the kid plays fast and he makes plays.

Because it's just an observation, not a knock against the kid or anything. And I agree 100%. Elder doesn't look like he's going fast but he almost always out-runs people.

All this for a make believe scout! Yeah. He's one of the few guys to me that real looks like he could move on and do well. What do you think about Artie? Still to raw or no?

I have not seen this guy in 2 years. He was a scout for the Falcons but left for another team 2 years ago. He is visiting family in Atl and was at a xmas party and I got a chance to pick his brain. This was his opinion on a few of the Jr's looking to go to the draft. Again its his opinion.. does not mean much..

AQM- He said to me "If I go pull tape and only had one season to look at, and this guys name is not Clowney I don't even hit play". (thought that was funny) He said at best this guy would be someone's "gamble" so you do that in the 6th and 7th Round. And truthfully you could gamble with him as an undrafted player. You don't need to pick him. He said if he leaves he is getting bad advise.

Coley: He said Coley is the type of player you like on paper because of the speed and size. But knowing what he knows he is afraid Coley would have a tough time making it through camp. He said camp is tough, you have veteran WR's who are going all out, and DB's who are better than anything he has seen. Felt right now Coley would get lost in that completion.. But he did say he is very tempting because of his speed. He thought someone could really work with him and make him into a good player. But WR is tough. Overall just thought one more year under a good coach could do this guy wonders.

Elder: He Loves Elder but again did not think he would be someone that should go yet. Not sure what he meant by this. He said "Elder is a guy with great speed that does not look fast when he plays".. He said he is another one that should not be thinking of leaving.

Burns: He thought burns looked like a pro right now. Size and body type are perfect. Speed is great. He said that once a DB coach teaches him NFL technique he will be very good. Needs to learn how to fight off the line with a bigger WR but everything else is there. 2nd round pick...Maybe 3rd because of the WR depth in the draft.

BTW Lastly I asked what he thought about Howard. I will spare you some of it because he is a Cane and I'm not going to be rude. BUT did not have good things to say. Small, slow and said is one of the worst on getting off blocks. Said because he is a cane might be a 6th rounder at best.

Anyway take it for what its worth... its just one guys assessment.

Wow, I didn't know my law degree made me a scout. Pretty obvious ****. Go Falcons.

Gotta like a kid like Artie, with his size/speed ratio. He's not afraid to hit either. I think he'll struggle a bit in press/man coverage in the NFL though. I don't know if his feet are quick enough. It would be freakish for a kid his size to have those type of feet. I've seen him get shaken off the line quite a few times during his career here. I do think he would excel in a scheme that requires big CB's though.

Drafttek has Bush going in the 3rd round, I think that makes sense I never understood the 5th round stuff surrounding him, or is it just the homer in me?

Coley's biggest issue has always been staying healthy, he has never been healthy a full season since he been here.

I think Greg Golden is a sleeping giant. Expect big things if he doesn't transfer

What are the odds its legit?

Burns should be the only one turning pro. Anyone else is just making a major mistake...
