Just a year ago at this time....

Did y’all really think they were firing him in 2018 when 2017 was our best season in 15 years?

The best you can hope for is a forced OC and Trustees are already talking about it

Excellent write up @k9cane! This team are definitely worse than the 1997 team, my question is “how do we RISE from this abyss”?

Interesting question, unlike some doom-and-gloomers, I dont believe that Miami is destined to be an also-ran in the food chain of college football forever. I saw USC for a full decade or so go through a dry spell. Bama before Saban became just another program. Michigan was in danger of going through a decade long-plus dry spell till Captain Pleats(Harbaugh) came back to his alma mater and has made them relevant

Go back to 1997 or really Butch's tenure, go back to that coaching staff and look at all the guys who ended up being head coaches or went onto the NFL. If a coach wasn't cutting it( Bill Miller) he was getting the ax. Tough decisions were made for the good of the program. Seriously, Butch's staffs had some real coaching talent(including lifers like Don Soldinger, who never had any real interest in coaching outside the city of Miami)

Compare that to this current group of coaches we have. First of all, would any major program really hire Richt at this moment if they had the chance? Also, outside of Manny Diaz, which other assistant coach is moving up the ladder or would be wanted by another major program? That to me is telling.

Every good Miami team I can recall, had a good staff of coaches. There is a direct correlation.

Yeah, coaches and coaching matter. Don't let the Branch Richtian Cult of Coral Gables tell you its just on the players to execute. That's the mantra of a bad coach looking for excuses

Get the right coach in here and Miami can be Miami again. But right now, they are on 'Richtbation'

I don't necessarily condone his attitude but I know this, any of us in his Adidas would've been frustrated to playing in this garbage system. I will never hold any ill will towards this young man, I'll be looking forward to seeing him at the next level. This program and Richt could've helped him grow up, instead, they let this kid become a problem and ran him out.

And yeah, he's not the only one contemplating getting outta here. This has been festering for awhile I've been told. This will be a VERY interesting off-season.

Folks, we are in the abyss.

Anyways, enjoy your Thanksgiving...

And oh.... Beat Pitt!!

Gerald Willis says hi.

I’m good. But with all the *****ing and moaning in this thread, one could make a killing with a box of Tampax for sale here...

Look, this season - and maybe the argument can be made that Richt’s entire tenure - has been an utter disaster. I’m all for making the necessary changes to right this ship - OC, OL coach, new head coach whatever...

With that said, please spare us all this whole “we’re sooo cursed” or “if you buy a t-shirt, you’re part of the problem” or “we deserve better” or “no one cares about this U but the fans” or “I’m not going to another game until I get what I want” or “this program is dead” bullsh1t.

Sometimes this fan base is as entitled as the new generation of players they lambaste on a regular basis.

You're the guy who keeps going back to Chipotle after the burrito gave you diarrhea the last 10x you went. That's your prerogative. But don't criticize others for not wanting to continue paying good money for an inevitable case of diarrhea.

I don’t mean to criticize, just have a different perspective.

For example, took my son to his first away game at GT this year. Spent the weekend away with him, took him to a new city he’d never been too. We had a blast. The look on his face sitting at a new stadium was priceless, as was his reaction when the Canes took the field.

Yeah, we lost. But he didn’t seem to care and I didn’t either. The experience itself was great.

Now why would I rob him or myself, of more those? Because I don’t like the coach? Nah, not worth sitting out to me.

Any fan that watches the games closely knows we were a mirage last year. We could have easily lost 2-4 more games. We never dominated anyone worthwhile and were saved by the turnover chain and some miracle plays.

Problem is most just look at the box score and probably can’t comprehend why the fan base is so distraught.

I agree this is the ****tiest I’ve probably ever felt. Golden was brutal but this feels worse because we are so far from getting rid of Richt. He’s not going anywhere anytime soon and now we have to endure the attempted band aids for the situation.

Maybe 12 months from now we start to have some light at the end of the tunnel but it’s going to be a long wait

You can be mirage as long as end result still counts as Ws. The problem is no progression was made and we saw that week 1 vs LSU. A good coach would've been able to take the momentum as a program we had coming from last year even with the 3 straight losses and turned this year into a step closer to contention. Richt went the opposite way and now he has to start from first base again. Thats all we need to know that Richt aint the guy. I was believer even knowing richt was known for his 9 win seasons I assumed since we player in a weak division that could be 11 wins yearly especially with our talent. Golden's teams weren't even close to this talent wise. Which makes this coaching job way worse than anything our last 2 coaches gave us.

Well, it beats 'dining and dashing' at Chipotle and getting a manager fired, I will say that

I have lost interest in the program as a fan i follow all the time that wont stop but the passion isnt there so i can imagine what the players feel

How can a $4m/yr coach not gameplan? And it’s obvious he isn’t... oh yea his qbs have said so too.

The hit the showers thing tho... I’ll leave that for @nystateofmind to explain.

Richt's salary is relevant to the extent that with Coker, Shannon and Golden we basically got what we paid for. For $4 mil a year, we are getting seriously ripped off.
