Juice

It's a coaching cliche for a reason: some players bring juice to your defense. That means they play with energy, twitch and physicality. It sets a tone and gives your defense an identity.

We didn't have that last year, especially in our secondary. Blades and Ivey weren't physical. Hall was tough enough, but tended to blend in the background. Bolden was inconsistent. We were a slow, passive and uninspired defense.

TRob is known for producing DBs who play hard, fast and aggressive. He likes to create a competitive environment. But he needs new blood to crank up the temperature in the room. Enter Tyrique Stevenson. He's ridiculously explosive, with a verified 4.49 and 40 inch VJ at 200+. He's also tough as **** and plays with motor. James Williams is not only a freak, but a passionate Energizer bunny with an engine that runs the entire game. Avantae Williams is cut from the same cloth.

I expect to see a different tone on next year's defense, and those four additions are a big reason why.
Amari Carter called for another targeting this afternoon.

You need to get a boner emoji on here

Spot on, but with this same scheme nothing will change. This current scheme encourages being passive and tentative with all the soft zones they play. Bring in a qualified DC with a aggressive but disciplined scheme, team him up with T Rob and we cooking.
I agree totally! A disciplined scheme that at least teaches the DE's to set the edge aka contain. We can't continue with the same DC and scheme and expect TRod to work miracles

@DMoney give me your dream lineup on D.

Good question. I think we see a lot of rotation next year. The depth has improved in the back 7.

I want to see Keontra Smith get more reps at LB to get him on the field. Keep Couch inside at slot. I like Chantz more than Cam Williams and hope he takes that 3rd DE spot. I’d also like to see more snaps for Elijah Roberts.

Gonna leave the young man alone for a few days. His longtime GF is currently in the hospital in a bad spot.
Apparently they were getting intimate and somehow Carter caught her across the temple with a vicious, accidental headbutt. Allegedly he was trying to go down on her.
Prayers up everyone.

yea I think the real question is - will this staff stop catering to the upperclassmen, when it’s clear the younger players are better

we’ve seen in time and time again with Manny as a DC and now HC

Knowles over Hall/Bolden at S
Amari Carter over Hall
Patchan over Rousseau
McCloud/Jennings over younger LBs
Ford over JHH
Pope/Wiggins over Smith/Restrepo/Redding
Etc.
Big phenomenon going on in the world right now: people attempting to normalize their insecurities and debilitations. With a change in staff or our staff’s overall talent (coaching) level increasing, a culture of giving opportunity to the best able will take place with the players as well.

Our coaching staff was filled with 3 star talent at best, so they respect and honor anyone player that makes them feel 5 star. They value the underdog players because they are underdog coaches. Every 3 star coach we replace we’ll see the culture of 3 star seniority disappear. Banda and Rumph are a great start. Dudes are projecting and living vicariously while we get mauled by 4 and 5 star coaching staffs.

Also lots of posts about why recruit leave South Florida for the SEC in the first place. It’s not just for bags, it’s also because we don’t provide the coach talent and development equal to or greater than what the recruit brings to the table. That relationship is not reciprocal.

We can’t have subpar position coaches and coordinators and expect to beat out a bag 💼 and stellar coaching talent and development.

Manny has ran his experiment and it has mostly failed (trying to establish his own coaching tree 😂) It’s time to level up. We can beat bags with a great coaching staff and winning/competing in big games.

I thought cam flashed. Is the desire for chantz to be number 3 due to cam’s lack of talent or chantz’s potential?

As the cross town Fins with Flores are showing (and Cincy in cfb), when you have an elite secondary, it changes your entire defense. Building from the outside can pay dividends and TRob gonna have some pieces.

Frierson had a few lapses but he was by far the most consistent db we had for sure imo. I think he’s solidified that spot and placed himself above everyone there for sure. I do Like Keontra though
Yeah... it’s a nice thought, but I wouldn’t bet on it. If he wants to keep that spot, he’s got work to do.
😒👂
