Josh Pate Shreds Gattis on Late Kick

Fact is the team showed up flat and disinterested. Then when they got smacked a second and third time they quit. Horrible effort by all and quitting is even worse.
Well Im judging the rest of the season on effort now. Hard to do 3000 miles away cause I don't see any behind the scenes stuff. I only see Saturday, the effort better be there

The wr’s effort was noticeable and disturbing. Whoever the qb is shouldn’t change your effort , just because the relationship is better with one guy.

I made note of this in my game review post. It was a glaring difference. The WR's give up on routes WAAAY too often when TVD is on the field. My guess is that it might have something to do with the fact that TVD always looked for Restrepo when a play broke down. Garcia seemed to look all over the field when it happened while he was out there.

From being in the stadium, I can tell you the moment the Canes lost the game.... It was when we had 2nd and goal from the one yard line at the end of the 3rd quarter and did not score. We ran the same shotgun single back dive play twice in a row and could not get a yard. That whole time I was screaming to go under center and run a two-back formation. We did not, instead Gattis called a 2 foot pass pattern from the 3 foot line.

Yet later in the game, when we had fallen too far behind, the Canes end up running a play from under center in the I formation and scoring a TD, so its a play that Gattis had yet the guy didnt think to run it until it was too late. That was very angering.

I left the stadium shortly after that.

If we're so intent on running the ball at the goal line, we need not go into such tight formations. Any OC who does that is an idiot.

You want to run up the middle for a gain to get a score, so your logic is to formation shift all of your TE/WRs inside so that the entire defense is in a 8 yard box? I'm not against being a running team, but you have to at least be smart about it. Doing what we do is not being smart about it. If you want to gash teams on the ground, spread the defense out to create some light boxes.

If the logic is that MTSU is going to load the box regardless and we're bringing guys in to block, well I have news for Gattis, our guys have shown they cannot block that way. The plays were dead before they were even ran because of how we aligned ourselves. We're seeing the offensive equivalent of a Dorito defense having the LBs playing 6 yards deep in the end zone against GT at the 1 yard line.

Was Gattis really Mario’s first choice as OC? What other candidates were truly in the mix? @Cribby
He was not. Looking back we were having issues finding an Oc and Gattis was unhappy at Michigan. Weiss being promoted to co OC apparently rustled his jimmies .It was good timing for both of them and saying “ I hired the Broyles award winner“ looks good publicly. Win wi…..well at the time.

Maybe he should’ve listened to those texts he said he got, and not hyped up the Gattis hire. He was sold on everything about this staff and program a month ago, hook, line, and sinker.
That's what I hate about media guys. They talk out of both sides of their mouth.

@Cribby If we get rid of Gattis at the end of the season, with the money and opportunity we're offering, will we still have issues getting an OC?

I have no clue. Imo Gattis will be gone regardless if he’s fired. He’ll move on. That’s just my opinion.

Gattis sucks. As soon as we went down 24-3, the game was over. A Gattis offense can not bring you back from a greater than two touchdown deficit. Our imminent UNC loss should be the last game that Gattis coaches.
Lol idk, those 8 minute fg possessions were certainly gonna let us catch up eventually. Just had to grind it out with the one RB we got left.
