Josh Moore and Charmar Brown - out for the season

My biggest shock, Mario still hasn’t addressed special teams. All night the FG kicker had been kicking them low. The punter will have one blocked due to blocking. Pringle came to a complete stop when catching kick offs.

After watching our performance against Wake, I'm convinced we're gonna get a punt block and/or a return for a TD. As for the coverage team, you have lumbering guys accounting for most of the spots (3 blockers, a LS, toure, Lofton). You also have Pruitt but he was getting lost in traffic before releasing down field. We had thornton as a gunner first - he was useless. Day was only slightly better. The best gunner by far was Dunnegin. Prior to that, they had him in-line. He absolutely needs to be the gunner because nobody else can get off blocks. In spite of all that, we still almost had a block. Ideally we have 2 gunners (most top teams that I watched fielded one less in-line blocker in favor of an extra gunner).

I'm going to add one more thing: Brown shouldn't be on punt block/return. He doesn't have the awareness needed.

Don’t even remember when i stopped seeing Moore on the field, but that might’ve been why lofton got a lot of targets in the 2nd half.

We’re going to have to play Parris although Wingo/Spafford/Jacobs will get a lot of burn; Parris is the only one who can substitute what Moore meant for us on 3rd down, in the redzone and with the deep ball

I don't expect much from Paris or Spafford tbh. The focus needs to be Barkate and Upshaw (after Toney). I am not impressed with Jacobs but I understand he represents a deep threat. Wingo is the only other guy I expect meaningful reps from.

Agree. I'd rather have a more fast twitch guy as the gunner blocker rather than a brown who didn't provide any real blocking of his assigned gunner

Anyone trying to defend turf is clueless and clearly has never stepped on turf. There is a reason NFL players hate the stuff. It wrecks there bodies! For the World Cup venues that are traditionally turf, that had to be replaced with grass. And there was an uproar in the NFL player community as to why World Cup games gets grass but they have to continue to play on turf.
Good example is former MLB player Carl Crawford. My favorite player growing up….played on turf in Tampa for 9 years then when he left injuries starting piling up. All those years on turf took a toll on his body.

Fletcher's last play. This is the type that can cause a labrum injury for the right shoulder. He didn't show any signs of pain so hopefully he is right, just held out for precausion.

When he came to the sideline the trainer was touching/massaging the area between the neck and the clavicle. He was in pain.

I’m no doctor so do that what you will.

I'm gonna try to be an optimistic boy right now, so here goes:

Before the season, I think everyone was in agreement that our deepest positions were, in no particular order, RB, WR, and CB.

So, if you *have* to lose kids long-term, well, it's an RB, WR, and then a corner is out for a while, but maybe not all year.

We should be able to absorb these. I hate it for the kids, obviously. And for the team, Marty and Moore were expected to be big contributors this year.

But if you tell me, for the rest of the season, I can have a *HEALTHY* RB room of Fletcher, Pringle, Lyle, and Mallory, I'll take it.
And if you tell me, for the rest of the season, I can have a *HEALTHY* WR room of Mali, Barkate, Upshaw, Jacobs, Wingo, Parris, Spafford, I'll take it.
And if you tell me, for the rest of the season, starting in October, I can have a *HEALTHY* CB room of Lucas, EOC, Antoine, and Brown, I'll take it.

We can absorb this and be fine. But some of these kids MUST step up. I'm looking at you, Jordan Lyle. I'm looking at you, Girard Pringle. I'm looking at you, Xavier Lucas (you need to get your *** back and be 100.0%, real soon). I'm looking at you, Cooper Barkate. I'm looking at you, Daylyn Upshaw.

We have plenty of talent in these rooms. All this really does is condense the touches distribution some. But there is still plenty of dudes in these rooms to get us where we wanna go. This just has to be it, on the injury front. This is crazy.
Send me the bill for this counseling session. I needed it lol,

Not super concerned at WR. Hate the loss, Moore has silly upside, but the key here is Mensah is still at QB. He can get the ball to all of these guys. We’re good there. Much bigger issue is OL, which has nothing to do with injuries.

Marty sucks because he’s a championship level player. And he’s a versatile, big boy type of guy that fits our style perfectly. He can make a clutch play at any time, often later in a game after not playing much or at all. But he can also do everything else…grind out yards, break a big run, catch a pass and get the first. Tough, tough loss. But…we should be able to absorb that loss and not suffer too much.

Key to all of this is we don’t have room for any more losses. Very early to have that problem. But here we are. Push forward and let’s see what we’re about.

I still believe.

Did someone put a curse on us? We already had a lot of injuries, then in one game against a half-way decent team, we get more significant blows.

Any more games against teams with articial turf? I hate that stuff.
One of the reason I had liked the acc move was most fields were grass. Didn't realize wake had turf. The old big east had a **** ton of ****** turf stadiums.

**** man, the team has taken more injuries thru the first three games than we did all last season.
Very important point imo.
Still Mensah and other stars should be full strength soon. Take no game for granted, utilize depth.

So this is where we stand 3 games in, anyone else missing?
  • Josh Moore WR3 - Out for Season
  • Chamar Brown RB2 - Out for Season
  • OJ Frederique CB1 - Out for Regular Season Minimum
  • Xavier Lucas - CB2 - Out till mid October Minimum
  • Malachi Toney - WR1 - Week to week with shoulder
  • Mark Fletcher - RB1 - Week to week with shoulder
  • Jaboree Antoine - CB4/5 - Out till November
  • Ahmad Moten - DT1 - Week to week with shoulder
  • Ezekiel Marcellin - LB3/4 - Out a month
  • JJ Sparks - OL - Out for Season
  • Luka Gilbert - TE2/3 - Out for Season
Also, we can stop with the "I had a feeling injuries would hit us this year"? It's confirmation bias, we all ruminate about it during spring and summer so when it happens it feels on the nose.

It's actually not (please don't curse me with lightning through my house).

Last year, Keionte Scott missed several games (3?). Mark Fletcher missed two games. Jordan Lyle was our starting RB, got hurt in Week 1, and never regained any kind of form. Girard Pringle missed several games. CJ Daniels missed 3 games. Jojo Trader missed several games. Tony Johnson got hurt. OJ Frederique missed I believe 5 games. Ahmad Moten hurt his ankle and was playing hurt late in the year, and I believe he missed a couple games entirely. Damari Brown, we were counting on, and he got hurt, again.

We had a LOT of injuries last year. The difference was, they weren't all early in the year like this has been, and we didn't have many kids get hurt and just flat miss the entire season after their injury, like what's going on with Marty and Josh. But we had a ton of key contributors hurt last season.

Where we did stay healthy was on the OL. I don't think a single OL missed a game, did they?

Excellent points! No lightning
Maybe it’s the severity of the injuries and stars getting dinged in the same game.
I feel better

Lofton got hurt and missed the Championship too.

Notre Dame is turf. Belichick made UNC go back to natural grass last year, so they're no longer turf. Clemson is grass.

Maybe Brown's had something to do with the surface but Moore was standing up blocking, Moten got his arm nearly taken off by Thornton coming in late on a tackle, Toney got demolished by clueless **** Damari Brown and then landed hard on his shoulder later, Fletcher had a weird fall on his shoulder, and Mensah got blasted because our OL can't protect.
