are people actually trying to scout a kid on highlight tape? unless u have game tapes and have seen a player in person nothing u think based on a highlight tape matters.

u can't scout a kid on highlight tapes. they may make u go wow i love this kid or not but to say a guy is stiff off a highlight tape wow.

Talking to some Gator friends and it sounds like he's out for them. Per 247, Woods has scheduled OVs to Georgia Tech (1/15), West Virginia (1/22) and Miami (1/29). He already OVed at Tennessee and USF.

He is a little stiff and upright on film but you have to like his size and production. Pass rusher is a good position to load up on, so it will be interesting to see if we pursue a third guy like Woods

. 247 somebody just predicted him to Miami

I don't get the hype about Swain, saw him in person and his film. One of the most overrated 4 stars i've ever seen.

My homeboy was at the game with me ( huge gator fan). We kept looking at each other and shrugging our shoulders , neither if us saw it.

He wasn't happy when Swain committed

Cribby,
What did you think about Woods?

Funny thing is I had no idea who he was , but I kept finding him out there. I kept telling my friend " dude, that guy looks like a big time D 1 player. Big kid but moves really well, he looked the part. Really impressed me

I could see him playing 3 positions at next level . He could play 4-3 de, gain weight and play five tech in 3-4 or even 3 tech in 4 man front.

IMO , his body and frame says 3 tech

His camp circuit was phenomenal but i agree. I watched the hoover game and he wasn't that impressive

Would this kid be a take over Brian Burns in your opinion? The Gator board isn't very high on this kid.

Burns is more athletic. But I'm starting to think that Woods ends up inside.

He is a take, IMO. He may not be a super athlete like Corey Liuget but he can move for a DT. If he ends up at 6'4, 295 pounds with a good mind and above-average athletic ability, that's a win.

I'm going off of the highlight video posted by Money, but here are a few thoughts:

- There are a lot of techniques issues with how he rushes the QB. He stands upright too often, leaves his chest exposed quite a bit, and I never really saw any ankle flexion in his pass rush moves.
- He moves really well for a kid his size. There were a few plays after he switched to #14 that he looked like a different speed.
- He is raw in his pass rushing technique, but he does an excellent job of disengaging blocks. Important at DE, but even more important inside at DT where players are more confined in their spatial movements.
- Has a nice frame and upside to be a very good run defender, but I don't know that he'll ever be more than a 3-5 sack guy. Motor tends to get a few sacks a year though, and this kid definitely has a solid motor.
-Sounds weird, but he has a huge butt that seems to be quite powerful. That is a sign of explosion and can be a real identifier to future leg explosion.

For me he gets on the take list as a 3-technique DT who can play on the edge on run downs. Redshirt him, work on his flexibility, build that leg explosion that appears evident, teach him to run track (i.e. learn to stay low at your takeoff and come up gradually rather than the instinctual way to get tall as quickly as possible so you can see and open up your perceived throttle).

As with anything else, whether a player is a take or not depends on who else is on the board. A girl might be a take when you're out at the bars one night, but another night she might be a backup plan because the hottie in the corner seems to take a liking to you.

That's why I don't buy alot of the 7 on 7 camp hype. You can do whatever you want without pads and a pass rush and look elite doing it *cough* *cough* Sean White.

Seems Coach Richt has been in contact and offered per another site. Recruiting is not an exact science, some guys rated less will end up better. Consider the FACT that some of your higher rated guys on your board won't be coming, you have to have options you then begin to recruit harder. Woods is a high quality football player any coach would be glad to have.

This is so true. . When Shaq was on a visit at UGA Olivadotti told us Highlights get the coaches attention and only shows the recruits potential...Once you have the attention then they get the HUDL footage and watch entire games.. there they study trends and weaknesses which are more important to an evaluator. Thats why we see a kid with an awsome highlights with no offer because his weaknesses out weigh his highlights...for example Phillips weaknesses could out weigh his highlights. ..NOT saying that is the case only an example.. The highlights i track on Shaq are his weaknesses. . The footage got smaller each of his years in HS.. but those were the things we would work on...like when RB wheels out of the back field. ..he has to get on his horse and get over the top.. or when filling his assigned gap he has to hat and hand half the man..not just bulldoze the gap cause thats not going to happen in D1 ball with 320 lbs OL men that just as strong or stronger...when he is tired his weights go to his heels and he false steps...those are the things coaches evaluate and if they can be easily fixed..then its a no brainer...Like we see Allison's dismal numbers as a QB... but a good evaluator may notice the things he does wrong and easily fix them...so the numbers don't discourage the evaluator. ..Richt told me that size is very small factor in the evaluation process...performance can trump size..So dont get excited by highlights they are one side of the coin.
