Jordan Lyle - what's the story?

I still think he can be a good player for us. He flashed last year with some really good runs, and there’s a reason he was taking the first snap against ND this year. There’s rumors that Soldinger mentioned during the offseason that he’s a special talent (I’d say that guy has an eye for RBs). He was obviously hurt and it’s not the first time one of our good players has had a sophomore slump. I’m sure he was indecisive/hesitant coming back from injury. Would like to keep him and he returns to the guy that flashed last year.

Pringle has balance that we thought Lyle had and he has elite vision. When he shuffles his feet he’s going and hits the hole with speed pause. Lyle is gone imo, that’s why you recruit depth because some won’t fulfill their ranking.

it would be a crazy turn of events to ever see Lyle play in a UM game after this season

either he will want to go where he can play, or the staff will tell him he needs to go elsewhere.

I actually thought Lyle had very good balance. Watch some of his runs last year, especially that long one vs Wake Forest.

there wasnt a fight. He just got passed on the depth chart. The coaches gave him ample oppurtunties. Pringle didnt start taking meaningful touches until late in the season. Lyle just never really made anything happen on the field, and pringle, when he got in, did. It is pretty straight forward.

Hopefully hes a man and doesnt quit (eg transfer out). He is still young and could develop into something better with a little more time. Doubt he will take that approach though

Why hasn't Lyle been playing?

My assumption is:

1) He's going to transfer because he hasn't been playing
2) He hasn't been playing because when he lost his starting spot to Pringle, he either got into it with the coaches, or they came to a "mutual understanding" he'd be moving on.

My questions (for anyone who knows about the situation):

1) Is that about right or am I way off?
2) Has he still been practicing this whole time?

I can't remember a player going from starter to not used at all this late in the season without some story behind it.
He has terrible vision for a running back. That’s the reason he’s not playing.

the coaches play favorites, and kinda dictate whos up in the lineup. That being said, it does change during the year, but the cycling of players is a bit more narrow than other teams. More old school Miami. We have seen injured players emerge, so hes still in it.

Post in thread 'Canes sign RB Javian Mallory despite pushes from Auburn and Alabama'

See second graph here

The main issue seems that his running style doesn’t fit our blocking scheme. But doesn’t explain how he was RB1 coming out of camp.
What exactly is his "running style"? Does he have one?

I also think Lyle will excel in a different offense. He does lack vision in our scheme but he can probably find an offense that features him to his strengths. Tbf, fletcher lacks vision too, he’s just a freight train and can gain yards by running into people. Pringle is a 1k back next year easy

Don’t want to hijack the thread but didn’t want to start a new one…any idea what happened to Tony Johnson? Had a good game mid year and then nothing. Is he hurt?

No inside knowledge, but I wouldnt be surprised by #1. For #2, I am assuming that there wasnt a fight or mutual understanding, but rather he is just not playing much bc Fletcher, Pringle and even Brown are having better results.

Game 9 Syracuse - RB1 Lyle (Fletcher's hurt) - RB2 Brown - RB3 Pringle
Game 10 NC St - RB1 Pringle (Fletcher's hurt) - RB2 Brown - RB3 CWH (CWH gets 7 carries)

Lyle falling behind Pringle & Brown due to performance - that makes sense.

Lyle falling behind CWH & not even getting garbage time carries 1 week after starting? That doesn't make sense.

The CWH part is weird & why I assume there's more to it.
