Jordan Lyle? (Is not hurt)

We certainly wouldn't want a RB on the field that completely misses a wide open free rusher that results in a sack, now would we!?

hmmm

I think some of y’all are way too quick to write Jordan Lyle off.

First off, Mark Fletcher is a tremendous back. He’s RB1 right now and I don’t think anybody is arguing that.

But let’s remember something. Coming out of camp last year, who was the starting running back in that first game? Jordan Lyle.

Then he gets a really bad high ankle sprain. He tried to tough it out and come back, but anybody who has watched somebody deal with a high ankle sprain knows that can linger for a LONG time. He clearly wasn’t the same back when he came back, and eventually he basically had to shut it down.

Fast forward to this year. Before the suspension, Lyle was right back in the conversation and pushing for that starting role again during camp.

That tells me something. The coaches see this dude every single day. We don’t. They see him in practice, they see him in the weight room, they see him in pass protection, they see how he runs between the tackles, and they see things that we never get to see on Saturday.

Now the guy finally gets back on the field, gets what, six carries? And some people are already ready to say he’s never going to be the guy we thought he could be? Come on man. 😂

Here’s the bigger thing people are missing. What happens if Fletcher twists an ankle and misses three games? What happens if he gets banged up and suddenly you need somebody to carry the ball 18-20 times?

THAT is why you don’t just write off a Jordan Lyle. He has the size, speed and power to run between the tackles. He can block. He has the physical tools to be a guy you can lean on and potentially be a bell cow if you need him to be.

You need guys like that in your running back room. You’re literally one bad play away from Lyle having to become a major part of this offense. And if that happens, having a talented back who has already competed for the starting job could be the difference between your offense continuing to roll and your season taking a completely different turn.

And another thing I respect about him: he could’ve easily hit the portal. After the injury, after losing his spot, after everything that happened, he could’ve gone somewhere else looking for carries.

He stayed at Miami. So instead of trying to run the kid off after six carries, I’m glad he’s still here. Because we may get to November and be VERY happy Jordan Lyle decided to stick around.

the only reason I think people are disappointed in JL is because the hype on these very forums. He is a decent back with straight line gas. He is a depth guy imo nothing wrong with that but his ranking makes it bad. It’s that simple

People need to realize they practice in camp just about always via thud and shells. There's only 2 tackle periods all camp. It's pretty much impossible to truly evaluate LB and RB. RB is all about what happens in the games. Now or never.

I know Lyle is high on the list of players taking non-stop heat (with SJ and Damari), but i have a question.

Does it seem like Lyle has been extremely unlucky on his runs? I feel like he has an un blocked defender meeting him basically when he touches the ball every time.

Would love if someone good with YouTube or tech cab create a cut up of his carries last gm.

There's a fine line between "reasons" and "excuses"

You can add results to that list as well...aside from his run against USF...what are his in game results?
Post USF...

FR
- 4+ ypc in 2 out of 7 games (It's really 9 games. 2 games Lyle was a healthy DNP. Lyle was behind Ajay Allen in 3 games)
SO - 4+ ypc in 1 out of 6 games
JR - 4+ ypc in 0 out of 1 games

If 3 out of 14 does it for ya - then Lyle's your guy

In those 14 games he's averaged 4.4 ypc - 3.0 if you take out the Wake game

Lyle was great in the Wake Forest game though: 7-115-16.4-1TD

Bshaw did you see the video above, do you think the oline hate Lyle? He got multiple ole whiff blocks on tape at point of attack.. lol.. Buchannan on screen, Samson on pin n pull, SJ pulling, lol..

So lets look at the runs.

1. Run to the outside, Lyle follows the blockers and Samson completely whiffs.

2. SJ with a great pull block and lofton leads the way. Lyle goes through the correct hole. About a 14 yard gain.

3. He danced here and missed a hole that SJ did a good combo block on. #87 block wasnt great, but seemed good enough to get through if you dont hesitate. 3 yards gain.

4. #87 and SJ mess this one up. Defender meets Lyle immediately. He tries to reverse it but gets tripped up. Turns a loss to like a 1 yard gain.

5. Goaline Jumbo package. Nobody missed a block, yet there was a defender meeting Lyle again as he got the ball. Fumble. The run failure is not his fault, the fumble is.

6. Nowhere to go once again as soon as he touches the ball. He bounced outside and got tripped up. Seemed like CMU had the entire team expecting run.

So 4/6 runs included whiffs, defenders in his face immediately, or stacked boxes with nowhere to go.

1/6 runs seemed like decent blocking and he danced as LOS

1/6 runs had good blocking and he went for 10+ yards.

1 fumble, completely on him.

About what I saw, tough when you get limited touches and you under scrutiny.. The whiffs on screen and outside run were making e question if buchanan and Samson got NIL ole whiff deal from Sunrise PD.. :ibis-roflmao-sm3:

He just got back.. give him time to find his groove! He’s a good back..
100% but you get people on here who will say see he didn’t look very good, it’s his first game of the season guys, relax. Our fan base is stifling bad sometimes. SMH

IMO people get trapped in the "it's the OL" bubble too much

Look at Lyle's first 2 plays which are receptions in space. What's Lyle do with that space? Nothing much. He's very vanilla.

Lyle Career Receiving
9 catches - 6.2 avg
1 10+ yd catch
1 Missed Tackle Forced

Pringle Career Receiving
8 catches - 12.0 avg
6 10+ yd catches
4 Missed Tackles Forced

Pringle is better in space simply because he's better. It's not the OL or play calling.

Lyle doesn't do much with little space because he doesn't do much with a lot of space either. He's vanilla in either scenario.

While I agree in this game, it was his first game back, dude. Give him some time to get his legs underneath him.
