Jonathan garvin getting some hype

He’s very talented but his production last year was disappointing. If he gonna be a top 3 round pick he’s gotta convert more pressures into sacks.

As long as he don’t test like a 5 percentile athlete at the position like joe Jackson did and have an increase in sack production he might be a lock for a top 2 round pick

Did Joe ever run a 40? I know he didn't at the combine but can't remember if he did at Proday. Garvin just seems like a better athlete.

I think his ceiling is probably early day 2 maybe squeeze into late 1st but he has a lot of work to do. Very much a one trick pony right now with the club rip. Really needs to add to his tool box as a rusher because he's not a burst/bend freaky type

A hedgehog only has one trick - but it's the best trick, and works every time. For 15 million years.

Was he a one trick pony? I felt he did a really good job against the run, and the 18 TFL kind of back that up as well.

Go back and read the post. Reading comprehension is to be desired. It was about his chop move being his only trick.

I didn't say he was a one trick pony - but sometimes - one trick - successfully used - will not be circumvented.

His sack production was but not his overall game. He didn’t have a sack in the last 5 games but was well on pace to have double digit sacks by the 5th or 6th game

One trick pony as a pass rusher which is what's going to get you drafted high in present day football. Also his TFLs are more a product of pursuit/our defense being predicated on getting upfield rather than him actually beating an OT

Agree, he’s a twitchy athlete, probably more so than Joe Jackson.

IMO a lot better than JJ (faster, more athletic, a lot harder to block, plays run well ).....he just needs more weight

Better yet... still growing developing and learning.

I feel that He'll convince ALL of his doubters with his play this year .....and best of all for him is he'll be a stand out at the NFL combine

Does it matter how he tackles someone in the backfield???.....are you saying if he doesn't do it your way it doesn't count? lol

That's not my way that's how players are evaluated. TFLs matter in context. There's been plenty of players who have really high TFL totals that don't make it in the league. I'm just being unbiased about it

still mad to see Rashard Weaver on the list knowing that we could have had him as well. Let him go to Pitt i knew he would be a good player.

Garvin will eat this year. He is slithery as ****. Type of DE's i hated blocking

At the end of the cycle he was. For good reason. But, for the great majority of the recruiting cycle he was a lowly 3 star. Stars absolutely matter (obviously). Evaluations matter even more so that you can lock guys in before the star rankings and other offers catch up.

Agree with all points. The last sentence is one that is often overlooked by both the "star whores" and the "star haters".

Nobody knew Rashad Weaver was gonna be this good, including people who coached him in high school. Kid has taken his game to the next level in college via hard work and dedication to his craft. Pitt coaches think he'll be an early round pick.

I've been a huge fan of Garvin since his freshman year, and considered him a future first-round pick, but he needs to diversify his pass-rush moves and take his game to the next level. As of right now he's tailoring off a little bit like Jackson did. Jackson never improved in his 3 years here.

That **** rip they're talking about is his only move, and when it doesn't work he gets pushed out of the pocket.

Pass-rushing is a very intricate craft. And you can tell the guys who work on it relentlessly. Guys who attempt to diversify their tools. You don't see that with our guys upfront. It's usually one move and if it doesn't work, we're done. Our hands aren't active enough for my liking.
