Per SMD quoting UM sources. So, either he's the QB coach or no QB coach and he'll assist daddy.

Bleh, wish he would have been a non coaching position for a year or two until a spot opened up.

He was an NFL assistant - not shocked that he's taking a coaching spot here.

For one year. I think it is fair to call this like it is, which is that it is at least a little nepotistic. Surely there were more qualified coaches among the hundreds who were texting him when he first got the job.

Anyways, I am actually ok with it because I like most of the rest of the staff and think we are on the right track. I just think it is ok to admit he is favoring his son and that it happens all the time not only in sports but in most organizational environments.

Warm up the engines on the planes. How is this kid a Cane level coach? This program is coaching deprived and has been for years. We cannot afford to give up a spot for family. Mark better get his rear end in the playoffs this year. Bobby paid for this crap and he had actually done something before daddied his boy into coaching. Mark has not done crap here yet.

Agree, though I do feel better about his one year in the NFL than if he was coaching pee wee football last year and his dad brought him on...

I'm ok with it so long as his salary is fair..Who knows what daddy is paying him but hopefully it is not more than he is worth.

We have to call it like it is, this is a very green staff. 3 first time college assistants in Richt, Banda, Rumph. Think Hartley has coached TEs 1 year and Brown has under 5 years experience.

I have changed my mind. Dude is only 25 years old and we only have a finite number of coaching spot. Shouldn't waste one on this

Bills have like 200 assistants. This is pure gift at program's expense. Give the kid a job doing something else, something we are limited by rule in numbers. I am trying hard to stay excited about Mark, but this does not help and, except for Kool, the other hires are not that impressive. You tell me that nowhere in the country is there a coach who would take the job and would not benefit this program more than Jon? Mark should be getting the best 9 coached he can, not 8 plus his boy.

Patiently awaiting FullyERicht's arrival in this thread

I have an eyebrow raised on this one. I don't know his credentials and football knowledge. He'd essentially be inexperienced in recruiting, and assisting the HC in coaching the QB by the looks of it. I usually think FullyEricht looks at everything negatively, but I don't have anyway of defending this move as I even have some questions on it.

Nice young staff should be EXCELLENT recruits. If not then its kind of a waste IMO. Either way I will give Coach Richt a fair shake.

I agree with you to a certain degree. I am not saying I approve of the hire, far from it. I am just not ready to condemn the entire coaching staff and the elder Richt for the move until we see what goes on on the field during the season. If we are winning, it is no problem. We will see.

Not what I wanted, but I'm done *****ing for at least a year. I'm all in on Richt, so he gets a pass for now. This better work, because I don't want to bump 50 threads and apologize to FullyERicht in a couple of years.

So we have 7 assistant coaches. That leaves two spots open, plus S&C which doesn't count against the total?

Art Briles hired his kid as a position coach a few years ago.

I don't really care what Richt does. Just win or the banners are coming.

Definitely favoritism but he'll probably just work with QBs with dads help.

Plenty of coaches sons have gone on to become solid coaches
