Jon Ford our future DT star

People are sleeping on this kid has great size and moves really well I'm not worried about him wearing down we will rotate bodies at DT. What I am worried about is the potential drop in play from that spot with the loss of norton and McIntosh.

We keep our D's motor running at high RPM the whole game rotate new blood suckers constantly throw in corner blitzes and keep red dogging them never let up, we win.

Most teams come out of the tunnel all fired up (any team can do that) then the fever lessens , this is not THE U's D , be relentless till whistle blows on ever play.

GOCANES

Like many articles on State of The U, the one linked is a master class in how to turn 2 sentences of actual information into a 5 paragraph high school English essay. I'll digest nearly anything about the Canes, including the article above, but that was painful. It could be re-written as:

"Ford arrived on campus last year with great size, but very late, preventing him from contributing much despite a need for depth at the position. Going into his sophomore season he should compete for starter-level snaps at DT thanks to the conditioning, strength, and familiarity gained from participating in a full off-season."

100% agreed. I was looking forward to some new tidbits on Ford. Doubtful that even any of his listed sizes were accurate in that article (he's not 275 now, that's just his listed roster size).

I had heard that Ford looks like a beast physically after this offseason of training. Would love to get a real update in that regard

@CanesInSight you guys hiring?

It dont take much to do what the last two starting DTs did for us honestly.

Gerald Willis is an upgrade over RJ McIntosh talent wise, is going into his last year and eager to show out for the NFL... so we are going to get an increase in production just based off of that alone.

And although I believe Jon Ford has the potential to be a good DT, Nesta Silvera is a future star and I still see him starting this season. I have no worries about the DT spot this season.

I don’t have much worry here either, we are going to be more than alright. People act like Norton/McIntosh aren’t replaceable but in reality they are. They provided minimal pass rush and at times were inconsistent against the run in some games. Of course McIntosh had monster games vs uva From what I can remember but still. Let’s also not forget in 2016 both of Norton and McIntosh were true sophomore who haven’t played much and still balled.
We have
1.Rs senior Gerald Willis
2.Junior pat bethel
3.Sophomore Jon ford
4.Grad transfer Tito Odengibo
5. Freshman Nesta Silvera
6. Djack(on some downs)/Jordan miller

In 2016 we had
1.Sophomore mcintosh
2.Sophomore nortoN
3.Redshirt sophomore willis
4. Junior jenkins
5. Junior Anthony molten

Wow you are overly optimistic or worse ... ignorant. You can't lose 5 quality DLinemen and perform at or near the same level.

When coach Simpson was at AHS spring practice I asked him about Ford and Bethel. Simpson said Ford was still a pup and needed to learn the system better, but Bethel was at the top of his game. Simpson also said Ford was a great kid with a lot of potential

We have a talented group in 2018, if Norton and McIntosh can make a jump in their game like they did in their 2nd year then it isn’t any reason to suspect that these guys won’t do the same.

Agreed, except that McIntosh and Norton had 2 years of playing time (Mcintosh only had 1 full year of PT).

In 2016 mcintosh hardly played any before that season and Norton had some playing time but not as much as bethel entering the year respectively

I think Nesta is going to be a star for us but will struggle intially this season with the size of the interior linemen on the LSU's and FSU's of the world

If no injuries, then yes, we'll be fine.

I don’t understand why the staff didn’t think they would lose both Norton and McIntosh. It was obvious all along. Peter Ariz made sure of it.

Dat first sentence, though.

“On a defensive line not long ago, for a Miami Hurricanes program not far away, there existed a once-modest concern: depth.”

I could eat a can of alphabet soup and chit a more compelling opener.

That butchery followed by this brain twister...

“Led by returning starters, the rest of the depth chart was made up of rotational players...”

Well I’ll be damned. I thought every depth chart in America was made up of starters and rotational players. In fact, I thought that was the whole point of a depth chart: to establish the starting line up and the order of rotation among the back ups.

Not two full sentences in and I’m smacked up side the head with a terrible Star Wars analogy and the ground breaking revelation that a roster is made up of starters and backups, and if you put the backups in order, well now you got yourself a depth chart.

This is Pulitzer grade stuff.

It's precisely this type of drivel that got me out of covering the Canes. Everyone has a voice and platform now. It's a joke.

You think it'd be mind-boggling as there's absolutely NO MONEY in the business (re: you get to write for "exposure"!!)—but people still do it as they like to see their name in a byline, which never would've been an option in the past.

Very concerning when the entire fan base knew it was a possibility but the staff didn’t even consider it.

I love this staff but they seem to struggle with reading kids (Norton/RJ, Jobe, etc.)
