John Jancek

When did I ever say we should hire him? I said on the UT side there is talk. I also said "might be good." Again, you use hyperbole. You just make stuff up. He would not be my first second or third choice, but would not be an "awful hire." I am simply discussing what would be a potential hire.At least be truthful in your replies.

You have signed up and your only 6 porsts are propping up a guy who is no better than Tim Walton or John Lovett were. Congrats.

regardless its a "meh" move. all I heard is how we have big splash $ now. if thats true then give me a tidal wave.

Unfortunately I'm not sure there really is a tidal wave available now that Brown and Aranda got scooped, Pruitt went back to Bama, and all the other top DCs became HCs.

You're pretty much telling us that there were only 2 Dc's you feel that were worthy and or able to be a DC COach here at Miami... That is extremely shortsighted and lazy.

We hired an offensive HC, with the idea that he would also call plays. The entire premise it to hire an elite DC. If you fail to do that, then you failed. We aren't doing **** here with a defense in the 30s or 40s. It's just reality.

Now that Aranda and Brown are gone, who are the handful of DCs you'd accept?

And he acts like we only won 1 or 2 games. Our current situation isn't nearly as dire as he makes it.

Did we not come off our worst 5 years of defense in Miami history???????????

Why not a guy like Orgeron or Leavitt? Can't think of guys who would be better?

Jesus christ not this again......

Orgeron has never called a defense. EVER. He's like 70 and has never called a defense. He's also a DL coach, and we already have one of those, who is likely better than Orgeron.

This isn't a history debate. Nobody is arguing Jancek is "can't miss".

In fact, you might be the only guy dealing in absolutes on this topic.

Stanford held Northwestern to 16 points ... Great defense! We should get Lance Anderson.

Michigan shut them out ... Great defense! Wish we could get a guy like Durkin, or Greg Mattison.

Wisconsin held them to 13 points ... Great defense! Aranda is the best. Wish we could get him.

Tennessee holds them to 6 points and gives them their worst loss of the season ... That's what they were suppose to do. No big deal. The DC was a position coach on an entire defensive staff that was fired, so. Do. Not. Want!

I don't really care either way about getting Jancek. But you guys claiming to "know" he wouldn't do well at Miami really need to get over yourselves. Have your opinions, but please stop acting like they're facts.

Have you heard of this thing called an anecdote????

Wisconsin and Michigan have top tend defenses across the board. Jancek does not. It's really not hard. The man has never coached even a great defense, let alone an elite one, in his life. It's an awful move to make for a team whose HC is also calling plays, and a team coming off its worst 5 year period of defense EVER.

Its a simple rule.....

When you are in desperate need of a huge turnaround, you hire a guy with proven results. You don't hire a guy who "could project to be good, maybe". It's the same mentality that had us hire Al Golden. "Well he never beat anyone good or won his conference or a bowl game, but imagine what he could do HERE!!"

Gratham and Pruitt were no better at Georgia.

A guy like Jancek can kill it in the ACC with Miami talent.

Ummm....Pruitt lead a team with the top pass defense and a top 10 defense...Pruitt is a headcase, but the guy can coach.

And which one of those teams is playing for the title? None of them. I don't want to be Stanford or ND.

I want to be the U. And the U isn't the U without elite defense

Sure did. And what does that have to do with our team moving forward? We need to hire a HC for the defense because Richt will be calling plays, but that guy could be coming from the NFL as a position coach. To suggest he is going to be good or bad is very short sighted.

Ok but John Jancek isn't an NFL guy who we don't know about.

He is a college DC in the SEC with a proven body of work which is mediocre.

Honestly I don't see any remaining coaches that I am confident will have us playing elite defense. All of the best candidates were either hired elsewhere or promoted to HC.

Pruitt, Brown, Aranda, Schiano, and Steele were all available and hired elsewhere.

Odom, Durkin, Ash, Muschamp, all elevated to HC.

Chavis, Collins, Foster, Wommack are all unavailable.

What other proven DCs are left at this point? I think most fans understood that Richt had to hire a stud at the position, but there just isn't anyone who fits that description right now.

You could go with Orlando. You could go with Barnett or Chizik. But these guys are not the same level of a dude you would ideally have wanted.

You could go with a retread like Leavitt who hasn't done much lately, or guys who have been mediocre their whole careers like BVG and Jancek.

Reality is we aren't getting the kind of DC that I felt we needed to.

Check your best candidates list, by your logic a lot of them would be awful hires. You are now arguing in circles.

His list for DC is: Saban or Patterson. Dantonio was on it but just got removed for giving up too many points against Bama.
