Jimmy Johnson to advise Blake James on incoming hire

### Jimmy Johnson told me that he and UM athletic director Blake James have texted and “I let him know I’m available if he wants a sounding board” on the coaching search. A UM source said James will take J.J. up on the offer.

Johnson says candidates shouldn’t be limited to people with UM ties. “You want the best candidate,” he said. “There are some outstanding individuals who will be interested in this job. I wouldn’t want any restriction.

“The University of Miami is a very unique place – there are obviously some things Miami does not have that some other top schools do have --- but Miami has some advantages – being in such a great area for recruiting. For a football coach, if you want to win, you’ve got a great opportunity. I still think it’s a great job but it takes the right individual.”

Pretty sure he recommended Gary Patterson not Petersen from Boise. Either one would have been great though

F***ing this. Restricting the pool of candidates from which you can choose by nonsensically harping on the importance of "Miami men" is beyond absurd. Thank goodness a voice of reason, who came to UM as an outsider without ties to the university and went on to win a national title, will be giving some much-deserved input.
 
This is a Lil misleading op.... Jimmy said he offered to be a sounding board and James said he would take him up on it. James is being polite.

That's a Sun Life thing. It's actually different after the renovation. Each team used to come out from under the goal post. Now we come out from one of the new side entrances. The road team still comes out from under the goal post.

Yet the teams have to cross which leads to problems....that stadium needs to be razed to the ground!
 
With so many former Butch disciples being talked about and him openly wanting the job, I wonder if any of them will refuse to compete with Butch for it.
