Jess Simpson

Joe Jackson’s play on the screen is a product of great coaching. Haven’t seen a Miami DLineman do that since Palermo was coaching DL.

Go Canes!
Good point. We have so much talent on me hand you could say anyone could coach them.

But then you see JJ becoming a complete player. Bethel improving week to week. Tito. Garvin.

Simpson is legit.

I’m too lazy to go back and read some of these posts, but is someone saying Coach Simpson is going to be poached by the SEC? Is it some of the same posters that were saying he was unqualified to be DL coach at Miami? He didn’t even coach DL at Buford, Quinn brought him in because their kids went to school together? We have some “special” fans...

Go Canes!

Miami's athletic department just doesn't have the financial asset's to give out salaries to some of the assistants! One case in point- LSU's defensive coordinator... $ 2.5 million! Yikes. Again, some of these Power 5 programs have the " open purse strings ' to give out major bucks for it's assistants and all that.
Maybe it's time the athletic department and university start anting up.if they don't we will go through another coker/shannon/golden era something a lot of us don't want to experience again.

The athletic department can't spend money it doesn't have, and the University shouldn't be subsidizing the football program when there are pressing needs for the 99% of the student body that doesn't play varsity football. How about this fanbase get off their asses and start ponying up? The athletic department has done a good job in reevaluating corporate relationships(IE Adidas deal, etc) to increase revenue, but that only goes so far.

Have you ever thought of the possibility that there is no overlap between the people stating both side of the argument?

Coach kool effect.... lol

How ironic, bama fans complaining about their ability to defend the run all year too

They got the booby prize of the century. Bama should have left him alone. Instead, they got worse and we got better. Fitting. Guess that's what happens when you hire a guy because you think you can get a foot in South Florida. Joke's on them.

Honestly, I thought Kool was better than that. Seeing what Simpson is doing makes me realize how inadequate he was. Our D line looks like the Cane D lines of old, and they didn't under Kool.

Miami has to consistently plan on guys leaving, because the money just isn't there long term. Miami will never pay 2.5 million for a coordinator. Alabama has position coaches making more than Miami's coordinators. Let that marinate.
Name all these coaches that UM “consistently loses” to other schools.

Yah because there are so many teams trying to steal Jon Richt, the Bartender, the NFL bust that can't recruit, or the guy who was ran out of Texas. Dugans was the only coach that they tried to poach that we kept. So we are batting .500 right now since Kool got poached.

You’re wrong, but you almost always are. UGA tried to grab Hartley. And there are always teams looking to get a foothold in recruiting down here or in Georgia who would love to steal someone like Brown.

On top of all that, if your pea brain could process information you’d realize this program has been in existence much longer than the last 3 years. That’s why I asked the guy I was responding to (not you because I would never attempt to engage a mental midget in conversation) to list all these coaches that we’ve consistently lost to other programs. It almost never happens.

His words were “consistently losing” coaches. And there’s zero truthful to that.

The thing is there is a sense of loyalty on this staff

Dugans - Recruited and Coached by Richt

Brown - Recruited and Coached by Richt. Richt gave him his first Coaching gig as an assistant S&C Coach. Richt helped him get his first full time position job at Marshall

Hartley - Was a Student assistant and GA under Richt. Richt helped him get his first full time position job at Marshall.

Seales - Coached with Richt for a while at UGA.

Simpson - Coached every year at UGA camps until the NCAA changed the rule on HS coaches coaching on campus. Richt gave him his first college gig

Richt - Son of the Coach

Diaz - Richt gave him another chance to be a DC again after failing at Texas.

Banda - Richt gave him his first full time coaching gig

Rumph - Richt gave him his first full time coaching gig

Patke - Richt gave him his first full time coaching gig.

Sometimes loyalty matters over Royalty.

I have heard the Hartley rumor as well, but that was never substantiated. So you are referring to Goldens staff who was even worse? Or Shannons staff who is almost as bad as Goldens. Or Cokers? Or do you wan't to go all the way back to the previous millennium to prove your point? For such a genius you sure type like a ******. "And there’s zero truthful to that." What a brilliant sentence! You think you are knowledgeable because you get showered with upvotes. Any moron could get upvotes if they are a blind homer like yourself. "Richt will destroy Corch O and the over hyped Cajuns". Of course porsts like that will get you upvotes. Regardless, we have had 1 debate and I destroyed you. I bet you still think football players don't need to put on weight. LMFAO.

What about all those years the football team brought in millions of dollars and the university used it in other places instead of upgrading the facilities for the football program.Don't b.s. us they've got the money.pay the assistants and don't blame the fans some of us give a lot even during the bad years.probably give more than you do.

Same as last year. Besides Willis, I don’t see a lot of technical pass rushing - all speed based or bull rush based but I’m far from a DL expert.
I have to disagree on this one, my man.

I think that each D-lineman has there respective moves that they prefer. For Willis, it's the swim move; for Joe Jackson, it's the rip move; for Garvin, its a speed rush. Each one of them use other moves, but they each specialize in the ones that I mentioned above.

A great DL coach knows the strengths of each one of his players and then teaches them to perfect that skill. They are not going to be excellent with each move and they don't have to be, in order for them to be successful. Take Dwight Freeney, for instance. He made a career off of one move,...the spin move! Everyone from the players to the fans knew that the spin was coming on 2 of the 3 downs. Yet, no one was able to stop it.

As long as our guys continue to perfect their "specialty" move, and are solid with other moves, they will continue to dominate.

You do realize that football pays for every other program.

I like what Simpson is doing. I saw a lot of technique.
We are looking good upfront but I do feel we could be a bit better in recognizing runs up the middle. We have been gashed on occasion by QB’s and RB’s running up the middle. One of the techniques I have seen Simpson teach (in videos) but I don’t see much of is our DL punching (extending their arms) to keep the OL off them, peeking, shed and attack. This technique will allow our DT’s to close gaps better when a mobile QB or DB declares a running lane. Willis and our other DT’s are so aggressive, they declare a gap do a rip/swim move leaving a lane for the QB/RB. If our LB’s we are good, but when they don’t, we get gashed. Now that technique is more of a read and react which is against the aggressive nature of Diaz (and most fans) but sometimes we do have do a better job of anticipating runs and clogging up those lanes. Other than that we are good up front.
