This is probably only interesting to me and a handful of people, but it really depends on what dictionary you are consulting (Merriam-Webster says family relationship, but the OED says family or friend). Originally nepotism involved a familial relationship. But over time people use words incorrectly or too broadly. The incorrect usage becomes more common. And the definition changes to the common usage (which seems to be happening right now with "nepotism"). It's how words like "irregardless" become "legitimate" words in actual dictionaries.

The legitimacy of the word disirregardless cannot be disputed. Another one that people mistakingly try to correct is “supposebly”

But man it looks like this Diaz hires a bunch of "yes men" on the defensive side of the ball. At least we addressed the position last season in recruiting assuming Phillips gets on the field in '20.

I mean you can't shake the trees on Patrick or Partridge? Just seems like almost every hire is a Diaz or Enos former connection. Nothing wrong with that at some spots, but you can't at least interview a young go getter for any of the spots?

Liked Simpson a lot. Last of our Georgia recruiting connection too, and probably the most important part of that. But the NFL is the NFL.

Supposebly may be a colloquial form of of suppose bligh, which means suppose you caught a break or chance.

I understand the move back to the NFL and the team he worked for before coming to Miami, which is also his home state.

That said, i thought Simpson was more of a college guy than NFL guy. He spent a lot of time in the HS ranks and seemed to enjoy working with kids, so i'm a little surprised at this moved. Maybe he didn't feel quite as comfortable once Richt left and decided to look around. I find it oddly suspicious that Stroud was hired so long ago before Simpson's move was announced, as if this was in the works for a few months now.

I never said that I "knew what was going on", but I said it should not be a surprise. The signs were there.

And, yes, if Simpson tells Manny that he wants to leave UM (now that his buddy Richt has retired), but that he doesn't want to ***** up the recruiting class, then it is absolutely the case where Manny gives Simpson the 6 or 8 weeks to interview and find another job. Quietly.

It's like you've never had a job before. Or at least a salaried job with responsibilities beyond sweeping the floor.

there isnt one coaching staff in america that isnt filled with who the head coach knows and who he is comfortable with. NCAA NFL

I would say the NFL is different. The positions are often times filled by the GM of the NFL team. The HC might have input but the OC and HC can be at odds. See it all the time. Another reason why the College HC position should be more desirable.

The first move of Manny’s I do not like. Very skeptical of his recruiting ability, let alone DESIRE to recruit. DL is way too important, and this guy seems like a solid coach but below average recruiter. We can’t sustain the recruiting we’ve had there.

We start playing better and winning (need both not just good play) I think we'll recruit better. We might have had a better DT class this year than you think, BTW).

Many of our best DTs over the years were not highly recruited (Sapp, Maryland, Kennedy, Jimmie Jones).

We won two NCs with Erickson and "friends," one (and almost several others) with JJ and "friends." Butch brought in "friends" and set up another run.
Good coaches hire guys they know, trust and with whom they agree.

I was responding to a post that wed have the best coaches in the Mac as if the Mac didnt produce good coaches. That's all. Good coaches come from all over.
