Never wanted them out, but I did look forward to seeing the defense with faster, more athletic LBs. We might have to transition to a 5-1-5 defense. Just put Brooks as the only LB. Can go with whatever combo of strikers/DBs on the back end. At least we won't have to see as much terrible LB play.

Brooks isn't any better in terms of diagnosing plays right now. But as a former edge rush, at least he won't let the OL blow him up. And he's in a different league entirely athletically. So he is already instantaneously better overall, even if he's going to make a lot mistakes. Kid needs to take over now and get more snaps so he can grow into the role.

I like the 2 guys we've got coming in, especially Johnson. And I'm not sure Chase Smith doesn't grow into a true LB over time. It's a good class. T2 or Hood need to be part of it though.

Umm was there a linebacker making a play in any of those clips? why are you singling out Jennings? McCloud and Brooks weren't doing anything either. Jennings did force a bad throw on the game sealing pick with great coverage, believe it or not, that wasn't in your clip. I'm not here to knock any individual. The Linebacking core as a hole has been abysmal. I know many clamor about who starts or plays but Brooks has played plenty this year and has done jack **** as well. So who are you playing? They have all been mediocre

Yeah whoever made that video doesn't really understand scheme. Jennings was bad in most of the plays but some of the most egregious mistakes weren't even him. I saw poor run fits from every other LB, Frierson, Roche and Ford. I saw some awful missed assignments in zone that appear not to be Jennings' fault, with guys confused about whether it's zone or man and not passing off routes. I don't know why Baker doesn't run pattern-match schemes but it's ridiculous to see Blades picking off McCloud (who has no chance) on a HB wheel and that's not even the most wide open guy as Frierson and Jennings are zoning up the other side covering grass in spot drops with an unmolested crosser running free. And then of course there are a couple plays in there where the D is just totally outflanked by alignment and were lucky to even make a tackle with no defenders unaccounted for.

Jennings has limited speed, makes some poor reads at times and takes some poor angles at times but that video just showed me the entire defense is a mess from top to bottom. There is no panacea with a flawed staff and flawed personnel particularly at LB. More Steed/Flagg/TAC could help and it's mind boggling how Huff couldn't bulk up sufficiently by now cause he has the best movement skills of anyone.

He goes flying any time an OL makes solid contact with him. He's a great straight line athlete but he's very stiff and awkward moving laterally. I've never understood the Brooks off-ball LB experiment and he's certainly not the solution from what I've seen. I think he's fine as a subpackage blitzer and helps open up other guys to get home with the rush.

Yeah, I'm not calling him the next Vilma. But I also haven't seen him wash out nearly as much as Jennings. I also believe he's more agile and athletic than Jennings, so even if he's "stiff" relative to the guys we have had in the past, he's flexible relative to the guy we have ahead of him. And there's still time for him to take another leap with more reps. Not the case for Jennings.

I can tell by this vid these linebackers are taught a system. Look how robotic they play their gaps. They have no sense that maybe the running back will cut back. They see an olineman go one way and they try to beat him to a spot causing massive cut back lanes. Then when they overthink, they respond slow and end up out of position. Their obviously not playing off instincts just clearly overthinking.
