Can't really say one way or the other. Kid had a hard upbringing but wasted his talent so there's no evidence to say he would succeed in this system or not. I agree with D$, we should celebrate the kids to put in the work and had solid or better careers

Correct. He could’ve had a career that resembled C Jackson or maybe D Smith.
 
Out of all the guys we've had with mega talent that didn't pan out. The one I only really think about what if wise, is Willy. There's a universe where he is a Terrell Suggs type in the NFL (I just got done watching a lot of Black Mirror)

The "what ifs" get waaaaay over-romanticized. People get all up in their emotions when they think about potential and what could have been, and they discuss future projections like they are facts

I don't remember this about Mike Harley at all. I remember the exact opposite, actually. As an underclassman, he was undersized and lacked a lot of the traditional WR skillset. I think he willed his way into the main rotation solely bc of his work ethic. If anyone remembers that 2020 season with Dee Wiggins and Mark Pope where the WR room was plagued with the dropsies and so much underacheivment that Rob Likens threatened to start benching guys, Harley was the only guy who responded and upped his level of play. I'm surprised to hear that Restrepo stuff.
 
Its a double edege sword when it comes to JT if anyone jas forgotten how bad our offence of situation was during his tenure has forgotten go try to watch now! It was bad! And yes he was a head case that quit at the same time some bash him for that not a single person on here will defend Manny Diaz as a HC. Or the OC we had during JT tenure. Talent wise no one can deny that dude was TALENTED just a bad time for him at Miami. Harley and Rambo got to play in a Lashlee system JT didnt im sure it was very frustrating along with his mental for whatever reason they asked him to come back, let him come back whatever happened and he finished a Hurricane. The reason i say its a double edge sword give me a Restrepo over a Thomas anyday of the week. But without Dawson an Cam even Restrepo wouldnt be where he is today if he played here the same time JT did. There is no right answer all we can do is hope any and every kid does the best with there situation and remember this is football these guys have a life outside of it. Some gonna make some wont. Personally i feel for JT and the system we had during his tenure thats where it stoos rhe rest idk to talk about🤷‍♂️💚🙏

Our fanbase loves players when they can push agendas and brag to other fanbases about them. If they can’t do that they **** on them

Just like how X was one of our greatest players in a long time on and off the field and when he fell in the draft everyone brushed him off as oh if we had a 7 round wr we can easily replace him

Funny how you bring that up but don’t want to mention the O line giving up 10 sacks, Baxa missing a chip shot, Miami’s offense not capitalizing on two short fields off Florida turnovers towards the end of the game, the fake punt given up, and the d whiffing on 180 tackles on a long td run by Toney I think it was.
 
Obviously one of the most talented players to come through here in years. Just wasn’t all there mentally. It’s a **** shame because you all know my love affair for the East St Louis program. He had his faults but Richt as an OC and the bums he had at QB from 2017-2019 didn’t do Jeff any favors.

Two things can be true.

The gator flat dominated that game, and Miami STILL should have won and if Thomas just catches a punt, they likely do. And IIRC, it was inside the 10 yard line, so he shouldn't have even been fielding it anyway.

But yes, the game wasn't Thomas's fault. That was just likely the final straw we couldn't overcome. They were a better overall team than we were at that point, and they tried literally as hard as they could to give us that game, but we wouldn't take it, and then Jeff forcefully gave it back.

God, what a ****** night. Two god awful teams. And then it took 18 hours to get out of the stadium.

As far as Jeff personally, part of being a good football player goes beyond just what you do in games between the white lines. He clearly wasn't nearly mature enough to do what he needed to do while here, or anywhere, really. It's a shame. Yet another case in the endless line of wasted talent due to maturity/attitude/mental issues.

Oh yea I’m not downplaying that muff punt because that was obviously a gut punch. Baxa’s miss on the chip shot and then the two botched offensive possessions off turnovers are hard to get over. Jarren Williams did play a solid game and I really thought Miami had their qb of the future.

No doubt Jeff had his issues and I hope he is doing well. I really thought he’d be one of the greats at WR when he signed.

Regardless of what happened in the season, JT4 got a combine invite and showed up unprepared out of shape and slow.
That had absolutely nothing to do with an oline or coaching decisions, or whatever drama or incompetence was going on.
Plenty of draft picks have played in bad situations and shtty teams. Let’s stop making excuses for him and let’s keep young men accountable for their decisions. At what age and at what point does it stop being everyone else’s fault and not the man in the mirror?
