Jeff Thomas suspended today

my dude, if you don’t care enough to get to the facts, instead of rumors, why do you keep repeating that he quit?

You also keep leaving out the part that those rumors included he had a baby back home that he wanted to be closer to
You're mixing things up. We were talking about the 2017 season above. It was mentioned by many that he had to be talked out of leaving the team that year as well. I used the term "widely reported" which was a poor choice of words. Someone asked me to go dig up those stories, which is what I responded to by saying I don't care enough to.

But you seem to be referring to last season. Nobody but people with an agenda argue he didn't quit last year. Dude straight walked out on his team midseason. You can spin that one any way that makes you feel good, but it doesn't change what happened. LOTS of players were frustrated last year; only one walked out on his brothers. Facts.

It was reported that he was dismissed last year. That goes along with the rumors that him and Dugans got into an altercation. That’s a lot different then walking out on your brothers. You think Diaz and the team would welcome back someone deemed a quitter? What #7 did is walking out on your teammates mid season.

In 2017, along with the rumors that he wanted to leave, it was also rumored that he wanted to be closer to his new born child. Truth is nobody here knows, but if we are going off message board talk, then that’s also far from quitting.

I have no patience with this kid or any kid like this unless family home issues , this game isn't rocket science get a scholarship full ride show up play and go to school.

If a kid can't do this LEAVE.

Cussing out your position coach and storming out leading to you being dismissed ain't much different than quitting, my friend. It was also mentioned that after he lost his cool, they still tried to arrange a meeting to get back on the same page which lead to him bailing again. You want to play semantics and not call that "quitting", ok, you do you. Do I think the staff took back a guy who was a quitter? Yeah, that's exactly what happened, almost identical to how his high school team took him back after quitting there as well.

The way you spin everything related to JT4 to make it never his fault is absurd. So Dugans just randomly decides to dismiss a guy who many think is his most talented skill player, huh? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. And in 2017 he wasn't actually thinking about "quitting", he was just homesick. How about when he walked out on his teammates in HS, that one not his fault either? Coaches failed him then too? Or maybe it's excusable that he quit back then because he came from a rough neighborhood. How about his suspension this year? The staff failed him there again, right? It was their fault they didn't mentor him better, make him a better man and get him to make better decisions. ****, what they should have done is hire a 24hr security detail to make sure he never gets in trouble, as it's not fair to make him accountable for his own actions, the kid is from East St. Louis for heaven's sake! Total failure by the staff there.

Look, man, I'm being snarky for a reason. Part of going from a boy to a man is taking responsibility for your own actions, regardless of outside factors. And there becomes a point in life where the constant pointing at outside factors goes from serving as an explanation to becoming an excuse. In my opinion, Jeff Thomas is well past that point.

I have no problem with you being snarky. That’s the nature of having a discussion. I also never said none of his problems weren’t his fault. I even said in this thread that he is making it more and more difficult to defend him.

I just don’t sit behind a keyboard and judge ppl based off of hearsay and a minuscule amount of info on the situation. I played with a dude in hs that dropped out of school and quit ball to hit the streets to make some money to keep the lights on and feed their little brother and sister because their mom would rather shoot dope and be a night walker. Dudes who’s parents are locked up and living with their grandma and the grandma kicks them out because they can’t get a check for the kid. The only difference is their wasn’t anybody that cared enough about them to go and bring them back from the streets. I actually applaud those coaches that went and brought him back. We need more of that in the black community to keep our youth out the streets. Ray Lewis was a trouble maker in hs and completely dropped out of hs at one point. It was the dope boys who ran him off the block and wouldn’t let him fall victim to the streets.

I agree that at some point JT has cut the ****. I agree that he has realize that this may be his one chance in life to make something of himself or it’s back to ****** E St. Louis. I also realize people from different walks of life have different values, and outlooks on life. I was fortunate to grew up with parents that preached the value of education, staying out of trouble, and living righteous. I also seen the other side of that. Parents who don’t give af, and let’s their child do any and everything they want to do. Those same kids are either dead, in prison, or still hanging on the same corners now. Despite Ray being pushed back into school, it still took that incident in ATL for him to turn his life around. So yea, I will always root for those that grew up with no guidance to break the cycle and make something of themselves.

Great post, plantcity, very well said.

Thank you. Do you think it’s possible JT has depression?
I think it's quite possible; that, or some other mental health issue. His body language at times, seems to mope a lot, some of his actions that seem really self-defeating, etc. May absolutely be a sign of something bigger than just playing time and frustration.

Jeff Thomas comes off as a kid who doesn’t put Full trust in a lot ppl..probably keeps a lot of stuff to himself...and if he feels like you’ve crossed, he done with u...for a kid to get in a argument..go a wall when the staff reaches out..walk away from a once in a lifetime chance..matter of fact 2nd in a lifetime chance as a lot of big time schools ignored his talent..over a coach maybe “coaching” you..type of Story that reminds me a lot of TO...Being on the field is probably that kids absolute sanctuary

interesting. Pat Riley once hired a 24 hour security to escort Michael Beasley throughout the day. the guy would sit outside of Beasley's condo. Literally, 24 hour security because Riley didn't trust that Beasley would do the right thing.
