What was his story as far as on field success.. I know he got caught up in some off the field stuff and that probably messed with his career..I was watching 97 opener vs Baylor and he started and was all over the field.. Webster didn’t see the field.. was he a highly rated guy out of high school?

He was a pretty good recruit but didn't have the grades and was behind guys like Marlin Barnes, James Burgess and Sam Cowart. He did a year at prep and came in the following recruiting class.

He was a pretty hyped recruit at the time from Nw. But, iirc, he was mostly a big time pass rusher in HS and struggled at times at Lb in college and we just so happened to have some ballers at that position at the time

J. Taylor was considered the fastest player on Defense if not the entire team. There were good LB’s on the team, but the challenge really was about the lack of imagination on the staffs part to get him on the field. He also had a twin brother on the team for a short while.

Linebacker Jeffrey Taylor of the Miami Hurricanes flips off the crowd during the Federal Express Orange Bowl against the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. Nebraska won the game 24-17.

Pretty sure this is the guy.

June 19: German and linebackers James Burgess and Jeffrey Taylor are arrested in connection with the beating of men's track and field captain Maxwell Voce. German, Burgess and Taylor allegedly broke into Voce's apartment. And German is charged with beating Voce, supposedly after Voce spread rumors that German is . German, who led Miami with 41 receptions for 730 yards last season, has pleaded not guilty. He is facing charges of assault and battery and illegal entry; his court date is Oct. 15. Davis has suspended German for the season. Burgess and Taylor pled no contest to misdemeanor trespassing charges. Burgess was slated to take the spot vacated by middle linebacker Ray Lewis, who gave up his senior year to enter the NFL draft. Taylor is a reserve.

I believe he went to prison a few years back over some fraud charges too. Only reason I remember is it was one of those deals where the headline was "Former Miami Hurricane...", of course.

Taylor was the jewel of the incoming '93 LB class....he came in with Barnes and Turbeville later brought in a late signee from Lakeland Kathleen HS, who did rather well at UM and later NFL.

Monster bust. Highly rated recruit. Most notable accomplishment at UM was riding shotgun for the Jammi German/Max Voce slap fight. Max still, to this day, questions German's manhood.

Dafuq was goin' on in 96'???

With the exception of Marlin Barnes (RIP), every other player named in this thread got in some type of hot water.

Hmm...."questioning German's manhood"...where did I see that before....on the old Grassy board?

What's ol' Maxwell up to these days?

Anybody know?

He followed Marvin Jones at MNW.

His HS coach claimed they were comparable...but they really weren't. James Burgess came along about the same time and was a pretty highly-regarded recruit. But even he was not that great at UM, though probably better than Taylor. Taylor seemed to have tools--size, speed, but not a great player.

taylor was hyped big time. million dollar body, ten cent head.

they busted *** to get the kid into school, and when he got here, repaid the favor by doing his best impression of a football player.

Taylor simply had no idea on how to play football. Built like Tarzan played like Jane...
