Jayden Wayne to the portal

So an undersized stand LB that his only skill is running the passer made a DE with ton of snaps transfer? Please
C’mon man, you know it was a combination of multiple things. Don’t take just one thing as a definite. Was Malik the reason he left? No. Did Malik showing out in spring give the staff more leeway to move on? Yes

So to be clear, the narrative is we paid Wayne a big NIL and he's transferring out because he didn't meet his NIL salary yet he's not a miss? Fine let's eliminate 2022 and he's 1 for 4 on DL recruiting with 2 already transferring out within their first year but that also means we can't count Cooper as a hit
These should help clear up any confusion.

Y’all really have to analyze the situation from multiple viewpoints. This is NOT just one factor or the other. So let me break it down for anyone confused.

1) Mario’s 12-13 record first two years
- Pressure to win now, can’t have another bad year
- All in with Cam here, this is it
- If Mario had won 19 games first two years lots of these players would’ve had a longer leash.

2) Money being invested
- Salary cap era
- Miami would’ve liked to keep Wayne but at what price?

3) Distance from home
- The kid is being told he will not get paid should he choose to stay
- Now he’s making less than another school will offer, 3000 miles from home & not playing

4) Bad evaluation
- I stated previously you need to sign 3/4 top 100 DEs to find that ONE elite player
- Attrition is normal and you get it wrong from time to time

NIL is still so fresh, every year we’re gaining a little bit more information and data to collect. Eventually these NIL deals will even out. The ROI on true freshman will NEVER be high enough to validate the price tag some of these kids are getting. Especially with less portal restrictions.

Eventually the 1 year deal for a boatload of money will turn into a 3 year deal fully guaranteed. Instead of paying a top 50 kid 125K for year 1, they will receive a 3 year deal totaling 180K. So if the kid isn’t good, it doesn’t force the staffs hand to need to move on.

How so? And as for your last post about “looking more like FSU”, this year yes.

Mario’s hand is forced. You don’t get boosters to back up brinks truck for QB to potentially win 7/8 games. Miami is trying to get as much production as they can THIS year, Mario understands this is the most important year, with the re-alignment, the bad first two seasons… it’s needed & unfortunately some casualties will occur.

we got a lot wrong on the DL in the three Mario classes.

lost moss, kelly, Wayne, achempong thats a lot of top end talent to not develop, not play, and leave

The thing is one of those guys needs to look elite. Same thing we're doing at Running back. None of the running backs look different than the other.
Bain would be the elite one from that group. As for 24 class, need one to hit BIG out of Rudolph, Lightfoot, Cole, Pickett & Blount. Honestly might get two really good ones from that group.

Realistically this isn’t shocking considering how hard they were recruiting this position past cycle. You don’t take 10DLs in one year if you feel good bout players on roster.

Wow the panic on this thread is thicc like them dancers at Tootsies.

We still have a little more than a week until the portal closes for entrants; then we have another two weeks or so until Summer A starts. Point is, we are probably losing another 4-8 players and we will be gaining a handful as well. If the net result is a positive for Miami, LFG.

Welcome to the portal era.

Like dam will Lightfoot, Scott, and Pickett still be here next year
Fair question, but my follow up question would be this… Do they all live up to the part (aka the amount they will be paid)? And does anyone on the roster who is cheaper outperform them?

It’s a revolving door at this moment while the analytics for the NIL deals are built up.

Kelly was not a casualty due to bad evaluations. But yeah, this is how it is done in an elite program. No more catering to a kid based on his HS rank like previous staffs did. If they aren’t worth it, at least the staff has the balls to move on. Former coaches would’ve rather paid a kid X amount and rode it out rather than admit they were wrong.

Why do I keep seeing bull**** on this site about "Mario's hand is forced", "this is the hand Miami baseball was dealt"?

Mario cut off his own hand by sucking on Saturdays for 2 ******* seasons and Miami dealt it's own baseball hand by hiring another MiamiBro instead of an experienced coach...

We are our biggest problem. Have been. Will continue to be until we wake the **** up.

It's going to be like this everywhere going forward. If NIL allocations don't match production and the player doesn't want to 'take a pay cut' they'll be gone
This. Any top 100 kid outta HS like Wayne will cost big bucks. If he isn't clear starter material after year 1, he becomes a bad "investment". Unfortunate but you all wanted to pay players so welcome to the business world.

Straight up NFL salary cap model then. But how can they fully evaluate guys on the line of scrimmage after only their true freshman season.
