Jay Cutler to the phins...

All of this Kaep vs. Cutler stuff is nonsense.

Both are slightly above-average QBs who play in a league that still employs QBs with fewer skills and less production. It would be very easy, and justified, for both to be on NFL rosters this season.

On Kaep's side of things, he has NOT been a "bad teammate", that is a white-man's myth. It has been rebutted by his teammates, and yet some people will bring it up about Kaep and NOT Cutler, even while some of Cutler's former teammates have gone on the record. As for the "distraction" issue, good Lord, Steve Bisciotti made a bigger PR stink in one week than Kaep would have made in the same week if he had been on the roster. On the other hand, it is true that Kaep's production on the 49ers dipped, yet it is impossible to prove that it was changes in coaching and system that contributed if he never gets a shot somewhere else.

On Cutler's side of things, yes, he has had a polarizing personality for a while, but he seems to have been improving over the last few years, particularly after getting married to a "public figure" wife. Cutler has had tremendous statistical production, yet only went .500 for the Bears. We can argue about whether he had poor support and/or coaching, but one positive factor on his side is that Gase coached (and liked) him in Chicago, so that goes a long way WITH ME to justifying why Gase chooses Cutler over Kaep. Now, as far as OTHER teams, it's different. Cutler will likely not need to learn as much as another guy with zero experience with Gase and his system.

Finally, as an aside, I can understand why Kaep's Castro comments make it harder for him to come to Miami, as opposed to any other NFL city.

Kaep wearing a Fidel shirt earlier this year ended all chances of Miami picking him up. Which is ironic , wearing that evil dictator on a shirt tgen having his stance.

Probably has a mao manbag too (and obviously has a closet full of skinny jeans).

It was pretty clear there was a risk to Tannehill not having surgery. If they were concerned Moore would not be the guy should Ryan be injured, then waiting to make a move until it happened was foolish. Typical Dolphins one step behind themselves.

Very good. As always, big picture. The day to day details are mostly irrelevant, even though that's what everybody obsesses over. The Dolphins have had mediocre minds atop the franchise for so long it really doesn't matter what transpires underneath. Mediocre minds are going to hire mediocrities who make mediocre decisions on their own. Rinse and repeat.

I have to laugh at the posters on Dolphin forums who desperately pick apart one play after another, combining their scheme and adjuster bias. The moderators and administrators and most posters are comically mesmerized by that crap, so it attains value and spotlight that doesn't begin to match its true worth, which is next to nothing. When a player like Tannehill is touted by those guys as a future star and then it doesn't pan out, well naturally we have to claim Mike Sherman, Joe Philbin and Bill Lazor are the worst coaches of all time, unfairly hindering Tannehill. Quite remarkable that in a league with a handful of truly exceptional coaches and an occasional truly awful coach, the Dolphins somehow find a string of coaches at the absolute bottom. Probability at play.

Ryan Tannehill is a Happy Adjuster. He Happy Adjusted his knee injury. Not particularly surprising. Tannehill is the definition of a dullard. Every interview response is "huge" and "need to get better." He'll be essentially a 30 year old unknown quantity next season. Wonderful. Let the patience persist.

This season figures as regression for the Dolphins. I predicted 8-8 this season before last season even finished. When a team jumps from 6 wins to 10 and lots of those victories were extremely narrow late escapes and the meaningful statistics were moderate, regression is a major favorite. A Las Vegas friend of mine who bets futures extensively has it as 78.4% likelihood of regression. He uses a handful of key categories and has some type of computer program to estimate. We used to laugh at his precise percentages until they were defeating the market.

Naturally at least 98% of Dolphin fans were going to view it the other way, as likely improvement in 2017. That's why the major fan forums were going to be intolerable this offseason. I didn't bother. No way I'm going to buck adjuster conventional wisdom day after day.

Too bad Tannehill didn't remain healthy. While regression is a favorite it's not a certainty and it would have been interesting for Gase/Tannehill to try to buck the odds.

Cutler and Tannehill have many of the same traits. Both have that 4 iron type trajectory and not ideal touch. Cutler makes more stupid throws but is also more dangerous when he's clicking. He's only had 2 seasons in 11 below 7.0 YPA while Tannehill has 3 in 5.

The 2015 Bears season with Gase and Cutler together was somewhat odd in that the Bears played very well on the road but lousy at home. I won several wagers on them as road underdogs, notably at St. Louis as 9 point underdog. Chicago won handily.

Regardless, I can certainly understand why Dolphin fans would relentlessly boo Jay Cutler's politics. No wonder so many teams shied away from him.

Dolphins have multiple players that kneel during the anthem. But you don't support Castro and get a job in Miami.

above average?

They suck

suck is below average

Forget Kapernick. Can't understand the fascination with a QB who went 2-14. He's a read-option QB. That's about 10% of Gase's offense. The only two NFL coaches that were willing to go that route were ex college guys in Harbaugh (back in college, clinically insane) and Chipb Kelly (unemployed flame out experiment ). Stop believing the narrative the NFL hates his freedom or whatever.

Carolina and Kansas City run read-option all day. Seahawks and Bengals run a healthy dose, too.

Cutler's only had a QB rating ONCE in his entire career over 90. The very mediocre Kap has done it 3 out of 6 seasons. If Kaep is garbage, then Cutler is pig *****.
The entire Dolphins situation is nothing but *****. It was pretty clear there was a risk to Tannehill not having surgery. If they were concerned Moore would not be the guy should Ryan be injured, then waiting to make a move until it happened was foolish. Typical Dolphins one step behind themselves. That being said, Gase is not going to redo the entire offense to suit Kaepernick at this point. Unfortunately, Cutler was probably the better choice especially given the two had worked together previously. There is also a reason that most people moaning on Kaepernick's behalf are not actually 49er fans. Again, the fascination with a quarterback who went 2 - 14 is hysterical, especially when it starts to seep into a board that ripped Brad Kaaya to shreds for his record.

I think its unfair place 2-14 on him. I mean they were 1-3 or 1-4 before he started. They were garbage but they were competitive in like 9 games. Dude completed 60% with a 4 to 1 td to int ratio with no talent. Garbage defense and no running game you can't place the blame on him.

Gase could be a significant cut above the typical top tier Dolphins employee of the past decade or more. I erred by failing to mention that in my previous post. He was the guy I wanted last year among the obvious contenders.

The concerns are too much loyalty to guys he's familiar with, and not enough emphasis on defense. Gase seems content to out score everybody. He nitpicks even significantly above average offensive outings while mostly speaking through the motions about defense.

The loyalty aspect was glaring long before this Cutler dalliance. Gase seemed willing to pay Stills anything to keep him around. There will probably be similar examples every offseason.

Not ideal. Everyone has a price and value and almost by definition NFL players are close in ability level, just like coaching caliber is mostly similar. Some coaches never learn to let go of familiarity.

The Dolphins lost fans over those three or four Dolphins last year. Had a friend that canceled their law firms Luxury Suite and buy one from from the Heat instead due only to those Dolphins kneeling to protest the US Flag last year. BTW, he was born in Mexico and severed 8 years in the Air Force and both his sons are currently serving in the US Military now. He refused to support any team that doesn't respect the US Flag.

Sure Kapernick has freedom of speech and is with in his rights to disrespect the Flag but every fan has the right to boycott the Dolphins if they allow this insult to our Flag at the games. Last week when we heard that Fins could sign Kapernick, I was in our sports bar with lots of Dolphins fans and 8 out of 10 claimed they would never buy another ticket to a Fins game if Kapernick was on that team. Kapernick isn't the only one that has the right to protest since I quit being a Dolphin fan last year after the three Dolphins disrespect the US Flag. Kapernick can't get a job in the NFL since any team that signs him will lose a lot of ticket buying fans and will be boycotted by millions of people even on TV that refuse to watch them disrespect our Flag.

I'll admit I wouldn't have been happy with Kap. I don't like seeing people kneel for the anthem but I wouldn't boycott over it. My problem with us signing Kap would be the fact that every interview with the Dolphins starting QB wouldn't have to do with football. I don't watch sports to hear everybody's political/social views. Same reason I stopped watching ESPN. It's hardly ever about sports with them.
