Jason Whitlock on Golden(5 years ago)

45 seconds and turned it off. Jason Whitlock should not be speaking about things he has no clue about. Which kind of means he should not be speaking ever.

Golden has never proven to be a good x's and o's guy. It could be his downfall.

Maybe hes right or maybe hes not but Bicho considers him to be just another talking head skip bayless style. How he gets to make lots of money writing about sports Bicho will never overstand?

Whitlock knows MAC football...He played in the conference and he watches it non stop. He also was a reporter for MAC football games. He is very much familiar with Temple and Golden

You are a Shammin slurper. Your opinion means nothing.

In point of fact, Whitlock is a contrarian. So I expect him to take the unpopular opinion. Some times what he says has merit, like when he called out Robinson, some times he's just bloviating. I admit though that in thinking about Coach Golden's success at Temple I had not considered their move to the MAC, which I perceive to be a weaker conference than the Big East. I have no idea if what he purports to be facts are in fact facts, i.e., the biggest budget, no innovative offense or defense, not beating a ranked MAC opponent, etc. All of this should be balanced with the informed opinions that have suggested Golden is the right man for the job.

That fact that he never beat a Mac team with a wining record his last year there is significant. Plus you can't look at all the years that they were in the big east and say he made them a winner cause they moved to the wack I mean Mac conference. What has golden really done? He went just 6-6 last year with about 8 nfl players on his roster.

Yeah yeah yeah. Ive heard all this sh*t before. Bottom line is, Golden turned around the WORST team in Division I football, and made them actually competitive. And for all the "anyone could have done that" bullsh*t, why didnt they? Temple hired dudes with NFL experience, and for DECADES had been rolling through coaches, and yet it took THIS guy to finally get them moving forward.

He's obviously not Nick Saban or Pete Carroll, but we could never afford those guys anyway. Jimmy Johnson wasnt Jimmy Johnson when he came here. Our only hope was an up and coming hungry young competent coach who could rebuild this program with the talent available in SoFla, and develop his greatness, as he developed our greatness.

Nitpicking bullsh*t from the MAC. Whoopie do. People can go back and bag on all kids of sh*t Saban did at MSU. Every young coach has problems.

Great post

It is unreal how quickly we can turn on a coach. So he has coached us for 14 games now and gotten blown out exactly once. Unless everyone on here thinks that Randy did an awesome job and left us in great position than you all need to take a step back. We all hate losing but try not jump off the cliff.

+10 What's next, a fire Golden thread? You can go by one guy's opinion or your actual experience and your gut instincts about a guy's abilities. He's shown he has effective recruiting sales skills, looks like he has the talent scout chromosome, has already turned around the S & C program, is knee deep in a culture change, and now we're supposed to be like 2001 overnight?

Most have commented that they feel Al's begun to turn many aspects around in a little over a year. What was alarming re Saturday's beat down was to learn how far away the light actually is at the end of a very, very long tunnel - because the improvement we been noting made us think it was closer at hand, and suffering as long as we have, we don't want it to be (including and especially me).

Give it a chance.

i remember when the no wins vs winning teams info was first brought up after his hire. I pointed out Temple was losing to bad teams too before Golden took over. The guy is what he is though. He's a strong recruiter. He's very organized, detailed and sees the big picture in how to go about putting together a football team. Now the part that Whitlock is right when he brings up the innovative aspect. Golden definitely isn't bringing anything new to the table. But that's not required to be a good coach. Just is what it is. The game day coaching part and how that affects your team's ability to beat winning teams...well that's still something that's TBD on Golden. Cause until his teams beat winning teams more often than they lose to them there is going to be that knock on him. And its not an unfair knock when its still happening during and after a 9 win season while at Temple. Butch was known as a less than stellar game day coach and there are others who are good coaches but aren't considered good game day coaches. Still can win if the coordinators are doing their job. The coordinators are TBD still at this time too though.

Golden has been through a lot since he got here. He is playing a lot of guys that where in high school a few months back or the year before. Not to many seniors or juniors playing. Tough for anybody to win like that. Shannon really sucked and his best guys are all gone leaving early.

bump.. Was this ******* Whitlock right or was he right
